Default Any interest in an all Scooby TSD?

Ok, here's the deal. I'm a member of CART, the Connecticut Autocross and Rally Team and helped work their TSD the past weekend.
It's a relatively short TSD of about 3-4 Hours, mostly paved with some slow CAS dirt roads.
Anyway, I have the master instruction sheet, and thus the stage times and stuff needed to run a TSD.

I figure if we had 10-15 cars to run and we'd need 2 more teams to work check points, we could have a fun day that ends in a nice place to eat.

The route is thru the Northwest Corner of CT.

Any intrest? Any idea when you'd want to do it? It would have to be a sunday so we could take the other teams out Sat morning to their check point spots.....

Let me know!

This may be a stupid question, but what is a TSD?

A TSD is a road rally where the point is to be exactly on time. All speeds are at or under the posted speed limits. There will be a certian number of check points hidden along the route to make sure you are on time. You get points for how early or late you are, and like golf, fewer is better.
You'll need someone to drive and someone to read the directions.

TSD = Time-Speed-Distance, the factors used for calculations in road rally. i.e. 30mph for two minutes travels 1 mile, 40mph for 1 mile takes 1.50 minutes, 60mph for 1 min travels 1 mile, etc. Accumulated intervals traveled at different average speeds create the rallymaster's perfect leg time for each leg; scoring is the error early OR late from perfect time, usually either in hundredths of a minute, or seconds.
Road rallyists generally call them "legs" instead of stages, to lessen confusion with balls-out performance rallies, altho we ran 1 or 2 CART rallies that seemed to require warp speeds to stay on time. (Mileage measurement was questionable & stops at major highway crossings had no reasonable pauses to create safe conditions....but to each his own...).
Why not write your own? Why tie up two days? Lead the checkpoint crews to their locations before the rally. (Of course, you'll run thru it half an hour to an hour early to verify all the signs are there & no roads have washed out, right?)

Wink

Not to be a nag, but I assume the original RM has signed off on this?

Rather than drag all the workers out the day before, what I usually do is run my check of the route the day before (make sure the route is clear, signs have not been knocked down, etc.) and mark each CP with reflective tape or a sticker. You then give the CP teams a map and the exact mileage from the last NRI to the CP. First thing they do when they arrive is remove the tape.

I could be in on helping out with this depending on what date is decided.

I will probbily change the rally a little bit. I'm sure the origional RM wont have a problem.
Here's how I figure it. The people that will help run a checkpoint will still probbily want to run the rally route. We'd go Sat morning, running the route, not at rally speeds tho for time savings. This way we get to double check the course, they get to run it, and they'd know their check point stops.
For timing we'd just use old fashioned stop watches, timing would be to the closest second.
So far prizes are bragging rights. If people wanted to donate prizes, awesome.

Best part, Entry Fee? Whopping $0.00

Remember this would be a fun, hang out with a group of like minded Scooby people.

As for date, As long as it isnt on a CART Autocross weekend, it's totally open.
Maybe the end of May?!?!

I'm interested, having attended "rally college" in CT several years ago. I'd need some review prior to the start though. Any plans for that? Are there traps built in, etc? It would be better if it were an easier TSD for me.

Keep me posted! I've enabled "instant email notification" for this thread.

No sanctioning body & therefore no event insurance makes me nervous. It should make you, as the "organizer" even MORE nervous, because any insurance claims arising from the event could get passed on to you, personally.

Why not run it through the club? It'll be a little more work and will cost a bit of money, but you'll have the club's insurance company standing behind you if anything "bad" happens.

Or just make it a non-timed, non-competitive group drive.

One more way that the trial lawyers are destroying our lives. Invite Vincent Trantolo and John Haymond along!

Insurance points are well taken. I'd be interested either way (sanctioned or not).

I've seen lots of reasons why not, and it sucks.
I dont see how a few cars reading directions, and going under the speed limit would need insurance. Everyone has their own autombile insurance.
Plus there would be no entry fee, making this a non existant event.
Someone gave you directions to a resturant, and there are people along the way to make sure you didnt get lost.

About a governing body, the official club held the event and noone from here showed.
So what's the difference.

I could make the whole event a do-it-yourself, and we wouldnt even need checkpoints.
A group drive is no fun. Everyone does that.
This would have been something different.

Sounds like it aint gonna happen

There was a major scheduling conflict: Many people who would be interested in this had already registered (and paid) for the NER TSD the day before, and the RallyX on Sunday.

Option #2: Just attend the WBM rally being held that Sunday. Shameless plug since I'm helping to organize it.
