Chip shortage is more or less not an issue anymore. The issue is simply producing the vehicles. When you go from a stop to massive demand, it takes years to catch up. Partner that with a recession looming and trying to forecast demand, you’ll likely continue to see lower output. It’s going to take another year or two for output manufacturing capacity tk catch-up and or exceed demand. Interest rates and recession could help reduce demand and catching back up.

I am a little surprised they weren't more tail-happy. I expected Toyota to go for the hoon-factor.. seems to me they went the fastest lap route. Good for them. I get the safety argument (what happened to Randy?) but I suspect the handling tuning is about lap times more than anything. I'm hearing that it pushes like FF going to the limit in a corner then rotates in with a small lift. Very Type R behavior and we all know what that does for lap times. As for fun.. I can't recall any reviews of the FK8 where they took it to track and called it boring. The key is there is a nuance to driving it that takes some effort to master and extract speed from. Not the same as a RWD or heavily RWD biased AWD but fun all the same and still very fast.

Not that I'll be doing any track work with anything I buy.

Lots of good feedback that the shifter is up there about as nice as a car like this is going to get. It's more important to me than lap times, easily. How many times a day do I shift gears vs. how many times a day do I cross the start/finish line of a race track?

Fred, they went safe, a la Subaru. Makes sense as this is first 100% Toyo performance thing in many years. Aftermarket sways will solve. Camber, etc. It's nothing I'm concerned with and kind of expected it.

I bet we see the ME TQ extend to all of them in the future (core, ce, etc). I also expect the CE/ME seats as an option in the future or straight up included in the CW package and they raise the cost of that package from say $500 to 1k or something. Toyo has been extremely responsive on the GR cars. Should see a PP in 2024 on the 86. I mean people complained about no manual in the Supra and started working on it immediately to the point it's offered now. There will be changes. This is early days in the product lifecycle.

Not like it matters but, interested to see how GR Corolla compares head-to-head with the GR Yaris.

Watching all the reviews, its pretty clear they built the car as a "grip" car not a hoon. Puts up lap times as fast as a Civic Type-R but doesn't drift like a Golf R. Interesting decision, I bet a clutch based rear diff would do wonders to liven it up.

I didn't want to speak up early and show my ass, but during the pre-embargo comment-less track videos I felt like it seemed way too buttoned down for all the rear-bias drivetrain talk. Reviews confirm that it's really nothing special other than being from Toyota, having a tiny engine (I do love triples and hope we'll get more before they all succumb to EVs), and having a factory short shifter. I'm completely over AWD understeer. Been there. Done that. Have a box full of autocross trophies in my attic to prove it. These reviews really killed the hype for me. Hopefully, for those of you still enjoying the hype, it also kills the ADMs a bit.

Subjectively speaking, I was hoping for something with a bit more.....personality. The engine sounds pretty sedate, there's not enough that differentiates the interior from the base models, and the exterior just doesn't do it for me.

If that ADM sticks around, I think I'd rather have an S3 for similar money or step up to an RS3 for more dollarbucks.

To each their own, but I was expecting more fun.

I wouldn't bother with a Core but if I can find one of the special editions I would take it. Need to have at least the fancier seats and that hood.

Amazing vehicle!!! Still not sold on the idea of a high strung 3 cylinder engine though. I know its a Toyota, I know the numbers that are being discussed on what it can hold...but...I just can't do it. I will say this, if the prototype GR86s running these were to go into production...I would possibly seriously consider one of those...I am overall glad to see a proper AWD hot hatch with a price that isn't insane!

I don't see any downsides to this car. Guess my expectations aren't working hard enough.

I'll take a white Core with the 3 options packages. Ticks the boxes I want.

The only downside is actually being able to get one...

Well my BMW was like that, 235 hp wasn’t enough to get the rear wheels loose at will on dry pavement. This is about the same, 70% means 210 hp going to the rear. The Golf R does it with trick differential, sending 50% to one rear wheel and nothing to the other.

In wet pavement or snow the 30/70 will get a lot more interesting.

Well said, although here in Taiwan it’s still a 3-6 month wait for any car, which I’m told is still supply chain related. Chip shortage is much improved but supply chain is still not normal.

I'm still in but I'm holding off until it's available in my work vehicle program. In the meantime, I'll place my order for a '23 4Runner TRD Pro tomorrow and patiently waiting for the Circuit (or whatever the Circuit morphs to for MY24) to show up in my ordering program. I warned my wife that I might have 2 cars for a short period of time if the GR Corolla shows up in the program sooner than later -- especially if the CE comes available to order.

I would rock the **** out of a stage 2 base model with cloth seats and steelies. This thing is ugly in a good way, like it would look cool filthy with some dents and scratches.

I do wish it had cable operated climate controls like a TR but those are long gone outside 3rd world countries.

Sways, camber adjustments, and Ohlins will do it wonders. It’s in stock form. Wait until the aftermarket gets their mits on it. It’s just begun.

Love the GRC, but leaning toward the Type R since it doesn't seem like a huge difference in driving fun.

We might buy a house in the mountains of NH in the next 2-3 years, that might sway me to the GRC since it's probably a total blast in the snow.

Watching the first drive reviews on YouTube, the GR Corolla almost seems like a successor to the last-gen STI, except it's improved- hatchback instead of a sedan and IMO it looks quite a bit better, even stock. Even though it understeers on dry tarmac, just like the WRX/STI it should be a blast in the wet, snow, dirt, or gravel. The aftermarket should help with the handling and the sound, too.

I really wish the availability was better on these right out of the gate, but I think I'm going to plan on grabbing one in the second or third model year. It's just much more interesting than its competition, for me and what I want and need out of a car.
