Outside temp on dash issue, 122F
2008 Subaru WRX ... 95,000 miles.
This started a few months ago but I've just ignored it. Now I want to fix it. Issue: The temperature display on the dash (by the clock and mpg) is reading incorrectly. Shows 122F most days and on a cold (30F real temp day) shows 104F. Wondering how I can fix this. You guys think it is the sensor? Issue with ECU? I tried reflashing the ECU but that didn't fix it. (I am COBB OTS Stage 2). Any info would be greatly appreciated. Not sure where to start diagnosing this. Best, Eric

I expect the sensor is located in front of the radiator (it was on my outback and is on my wrx). Perhaps it's been hit/moved closer to the radiator and therefore is reading that heat.
My temp display will read high if I'm sitting in traffic or idling somewhere else, once the car starts moving it will drop back down to "Actual" ambient temp (because it's close to the rad) If that's not it, I wonder if the sensor could be failing? Maybe a small short in the wiring? |

Method - I've had a similar issue with my 2008 and I/the dealership tracked the problem down to a broken pin on a connector beneath the fuse box. Pull the main section of the fuse box up and there are two connectors underneath - unplug both pugs from the smaller connector and the chances are there's some rust on one of the pins. When I looked at it the pin is actually broken off and missing - hence no high beams.
In my case the temperature is fine, but the high beams aren't working - extensive Google-ing tells me they both run through the same connector. My issue is that I don't have any leads on where I can buy a replacement for that connector. I can't find out which circuit or harness it comes with so I can actually purchase one!! If you have any ideas I'd be willing to listen! John |

To find a replacement connector I suggest you try a salvage yard.

I did find out (after a chat with my dealer) that connector F108 comes part of a kit - part number 81200FG070. It retails for $335 from my dealer, but I found one online for about 250 and some change. There are quite a few available. I ordered the kit. Once it arrives I'll update this thread and let you know if it works. I probably wouldn't pay that for a problem with the temp sensor, but my high-beam issues are more serious now it's getting dark early in the evening! John |
