EJ20 swap complete!!!
OH HELL YEAH! I have never felt torque like this before. Even with the Minnam S.2, this is hardcore. My freinds dad installed it for NOTHING at his own house, he even made his own wiring harness from scratch that if you ask me, should work twice as good as a stock WRX one. I haven't had it on a dyno after the swap so I don't know how much power I'm making now (in fact I've never had it on a dyno!). But if all the parts I've bought are making as much power as they claim, then I'm making close to 350HP!!! Anybody know where there's a dyno in Victoria / Vancouver BC?
It's so nice, it purs like a kitten then roars like a lion! I still want more power though. Where can I get a new, more powerful IHI turbo/ intercooler combo? Does STi make turbo's? They must...

What did you do with your Minnam Stage II parts? I could've used your intercooler, BOV and intercooler piping.

Dood you gotta give me a ride in that sometime
If you don't mind me asking, how much was the motor shipped and all said and done? I think I'd rather do this than go stage II on a 2.5, makes more power (errr sense ) |

Don't believe everything that you read, ESPECIALLY regarding HP increases.
When you add up all the #'s on the package and check your dyno sheet, you will feel cheated. I would guess that without SERIOUS crank work, new rods and forged pistons as well as a big turbo and intercooler that you are not likely to break 250 at the wheels. That is nothing to sneeze at (I'll take one) but I think that you will be disappointed if you pin your hopes on 350. Good luck on the rack... |

Ok dont mean to rain on yoru parade, but 350 hp to the wheels seems like a waaay off number. I mean take for example my 1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD...ive dont alot to it including ( beefier rods, cranks, new camshafts, cam gears, exhaust, intake, new turbo, ported and polished head and some ecu upgrades and suspenison work... last time i got it dyno'd it was 238 bhp and 247 lbs of torque, so considering you have a plain jane EJ20 ( however plain that can be ) i think 350 is a little out there, you dont want to turn into a Honda-guy ( by that i mean thinking an intake adds 30 wheel hp and a winshield banner adds 10, anyway have fun with the new turbo, they're a blast -Alex |

Hey 22BWannaBe, could you email me or PM me? I've acquired an EJ20T from a good friend, and would like to know what kind of problems to expect when I mount it in the car. Also, does it accept only 4 bolt bellhousing trannies, or will it take the 6 bolt bellhousings?

A Talon with all that work only dynoing 238hp? You're doing something seriously wrong. I had a little Colt Turbo, that I put the 2.0 from my Galant VR-4 in. It had a nice big Spearco intercooler on it, a custom TD06 Mitsu/Garrett hybrid turbo on it, an HKS VPC, a full 3" exhaust, an upgraded fuel pump, an external wastegate, 2.5" IC pipes, and a boost controller. That car's engine never had the valve cover removed, and it had about 50K miles on it when I strapped it to a dynojet. Result? 383hp and 359lb-ft of torque. You're doing something wrong with that Talon.

He probably dynoed it on an AWD dyno, which would yield lower #s.

NateP, how long did front tires last on that Colt? Did you carry an extra set in the back?

I doubt he put it on an AWD dyno - there are only two in the country set up for HP numbers - one at UPRD in Cali and one at Altered Atmosphere in Md. That's a ridiculous amount of non-needed mods to make power with a 4g63. Ditch the cam gears, get a bone stock junkyard engine with stock cams, stock head, etc, and try that. Watch the power climb.
As for tires on the Colt, the first set of Sport W-10s were on there about 8K miles, and the centers were smooth. I swapped on a different set of wheels for the winter, with Nitto NT-460 Premium Touring tires, and those things didn't appear to get any wear from day one to the day I stripped the car, they were so hard. Sorry for the non-Scoob content, I just had to say something about that Talon's dyno numbers. |
