Default ack! burning clutch = bad smell.

doh doh doh on me! I was testing out my new GFB BOV today after work and took 4 guys in my car (4 total..so 3 guys.hehe). Well i revved to about 4k and slipped the clutch but my foot and shoes i was wearing got kinda stuck and i smoked my clutch a little.

ouch! talk about rank, nasty smell!

car seems to be running fine though...i hope this 1 time incident won't damage the clutch too bad. Anyone know?

(BTW, this was on a private driveway when i did this)

I normally don't rev and slip, but did to 'show off' and well, hehe..i got burnt.

bad llama.

Don't worry 'bout it once won't hurt it bad. Repeated occurances will cause hot spots on the flywheel and cause a shudder when taking off though. It happens to me on occasion when I am a bit to soft with a launch on a course.

Unhappy OHHHH

So that's what I have? Hot spots on my fly wheel? DAMN. Yeah, when the engine is cold, and even sometimes when it's not I get a terrible shudder when I don't give my engine more than 2.5-3K RPMs when starting from a dead stop. And I've done my fair shair of clutch burns

Oh well..... C'est La Vie

The clutch shudder is apparently a known problem with the WRX, but I think you're going through what I did about a month ago. I was starting out on an uphill slope with some jackass right on my bumper. I revved it up pretty high and slipped it a bit, then kinda dumped it.... put some wear on that clutch. I noticed a little bit of shudder on the way home, and the next morning when it was cold... GOOD GOD.. it was horrible. I finally worked it out... just slip the clutch a little more than normal at LOW RPMS. Easy launches man.. .easy.

If it doesn't feel like it's working itself out over the next few days, you may want to take it in and have it looked at.

Default slip and slide

Yeah, I have to slip the clutch more and more to avoid the shudder I think when it gets bad enough I'll just get the OS Giken clutch + Flywheel for the WRX Supposed to be like $600 or so.

Anyway, thanks for the advice

hmm...the shudder thing...i noticed that recently in the mornings when my car is cold...1st gear...when i let the clutch out it shudders..so i rev and slide it a little more. Once warmed up..it's fine.

Thing is..i rarely rev high and slip launch it.

guess when my clutch does wear out i'll have to buy a nice performance clutch eh? *sigh* what a bummer
