On the Sti bag there is a clip with a green/black wire on it. Does this connect to the other end of the green/black from the cruise control on the wheel? I want to know what to connect to get the horn to work.

I know you say you have not had issues with the airbag, but knowing the 04 has a single stage and the 05+ has a dual. Is the 04 capable of controlling the dual stage airbag?

Just swap out the charge with your existing wheel.

This has been said above, but I think I am going to contribute to the forum as one really needs to understand that in order to make this work, one has to swap their old airbag charge (not cover) because the plugs are different.

Since one is using their original clock spring (02-04) to make this mod work, the newer airbag will not even plug into the old clockspring since it is a different connection made for the newer clocksprings.

That being said, one only needs to purchase a 05, 06, 07 WRX or STI steering wheel and cover, not clockspring or airbag!

I don't know much about the components of the steering wheel, only what I have read here and a few other posts. How do I switch the charge and the clock spring to work with an 05-07 wheel?

U know I find it very odd that my Cruise Controls look exactly like the 07 Cruise Controls and I have an 04 STi..... Is that normal for STi's?

You don't change your clockspring, just swap the charge. The charge is bolted on the back of the steering wheel. All you do is take off the one from the STi wheel and swap yours on.

On the money but i added a wire with a prong to the blank spot on the male 04 connector. I took it from an old cc switch i had laying around. I taped the wire black.

Just this mod using an 06 WRX wheel into an 03 WRX wagon. Some things I observed:

-Removing the wheel:

I am not a weak person and I tugged and pulled and found the wheel wasn't going anywhere. Instead of risking damage, I instead built a puller from a piece of flat stock and a couple of M8 bolts. Drill the flat stock (make sure it's at least 1/8" thick) to the width of the two tapped holes in the steering wheel on either side of the center. Tighten down evenly and they will apply pressure to the shaft until the wheel pops off. Think smarter not harder. It took longer to make the tool than it did to pop the wheel off.

-The OP's wiring is spot-on.

Do not match up the wire colors or the functions will work opposite. They must have changed around the wiring between these years but great catch on the OP's behalf. Everything works as intended.

-I also used a donor CC stalk and harvested a pin for the black wire.

Much cleaner and just one plug instead of a spade. There isn't as much room in the 06 wheel as there is in the 03 so it helped to keep the clutter down. If you go to the junkyard, similar-year Legacies use kind of the same switch but use a tamper-resistant t30. Remember this to prevent excessive cursing and ghetto-rigging to remove the airbag assembly. There are also four of them. There were no Imprezas in the yard I went to.

-On the clutter note: the 05+ wheels plug directly into the clock spring and the 03 had a pig tail.

Keep this in mind when you splice your wires so that you can have enough room to tuck the wires close to the framework of the wheel. If you leave it too short, the bulky plugs will interfere with the wheel going back together. I also chose to solder since everything was apart and kept the bulk down instead of using crimp splices.

-I merely swapped airbag charges between the wheels.

Much easier and I know it will go off when needed. On that note, there is no need to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. I instead pulled the airbag fuse (top row, far right 15 amp) and went to work.

-On my 03, the black wire on the clockspring plug underneath the column leads to nothing.

With this in mind, I merely just used a couple of vampire taps and about 14 inches of wire between the existing CC switch on the dash and this harness. There was no need to cut and splice and this enabled the CC either via the dash switch or the CC stalk. Bonus is that you can still tell it's activated via the dash switch lighting.

-Test drive the car before closing it all up.

I merely snugged the 17mm into place and drove up and down the street with the airbag disconnected after I discovered that the wheel was crooked. With all the tugging and pulling to get the wheel off, of course it wasn't centered when I went to put the whole thing back together. Second time was a charm. Of course the airbag light will be illuminated but will go out as soon as you plug everything back in.

Hope this helps someone out.

Has anyone tried this and found their new CC has only three wires with the wrong colors?

My new stock has red, green/black, and white/red only. No black to splice.

guys sorry to ask you , im in australia and i have a 06 wheel and cruise control and i had to change the clock spring as well when i did it. having a few issues trying to find the green and black one he wants me to plug into, i can find the black behond the clcok spring. also were he says plug into black to black on the steering wheel.
