![]() If you commute to work and only drive long distances a few times a year, then you could easily install it only when needed. in no particular order: 1. Unplug cruise control box, don't lose the rubber seal for the connector 2. Unbolt it. 3. Unscrew it from the throttle bracket. 4. Unhook it from the throttle body. |

![]() Any body switch out Power window doors for manual ones. Or if you are really hard core. Just take out the hole door panels.
I'm thinking when My car is old and payed off, and I'm buying a STi, about stripping my car ALL THE WAY, and just using it for AutoX or whatever. |

![]() Well most power window unit these days way as much or less than the manual units, so that I wouldn't do. I havn't removed my cruise control since I like it. I will be going on a all out interior stripping again this weekend to remove some extra wires and stuff and will see what else I can find.

![]() Cruise control only goes to 80mph. Not that much use under "certain" circumstances.

![]() I would have left out the carpeting after scraping out the sound deadening, but the bare metal looks like ASS now. There's some plastic snap-on thingies that hold down some wires or something, and heating vents that go towards the back of the car.
I'm sure my GF would complain every time she got in the car too. |

![]() There are more things for cruise control that you can take out - 2 electronic modules next to the driver side door that you can remove, and if you want to be real thorough, all the harness for it too. Plus there's a clutch and brake switch somewhere down there.
I replaced the cc button with the plain cover cap - that's like 1oz weight saving ![]() ![]() |

![]() yeah the problem is even if you're planning on keeping you car and you strip it down and start taking circuits out of the wire harness is that puts you right into prepared class at auto-x... Believe me, if you've taken out the wires for the A/C compressor and Cruise or even cut them off you will be protested sooner or later... that's pretty easy to spot.

![]() Here are some other weight saving mods that many don’t think of:
1) remove all change from the center consol cup holder. 2) remove floor mats. 3) vacuum 5 pound of sand from floor. 4) remove parking and speeding tickets from glove box. 5) remove “heavy metal” cd’s from changer. Replace with “Air Supply”. 6) run 36 psi in each tire instead of 42 (save 6 pounds a corner!) 7) remove Scooby bobbly-head dog from rear shelf. 8) remove change from pockets (but I like the “drive nude” idea too). 9) remove air freshener from rearview mirror. 10) drive barefoot. 11) turn down your boost. No need to cart around those “extra pounds”. 12) retorque all bolt to half their recommended “foot-pounds”. 13) remove 2 lug nuts from each wheel. 14) while you are down there, remove the valve cap. 15) remove license plates. ![]() |

![]() Guess what. I went about removing all of the extra (silver U shaped) door handle brackets tonight. While I was doing that I peeked inside the rear doors. I ended up finding big, heavy, black brackets for the rear (exterior) door handles. They are inside the rear part of the rear doors. You have to remove the screws from the lock assembly to get to one of the bolts, but it is really easy. I think they are there for theft protection because the lock is so close to the handle. The front doors don't use them, so I don't think they are there for structural reasons. The doors are still solid.
1. Remove door card. 2. Peel back plastic from top-rear of door. 3. Remove 3 silver screws from lock. These have red threadlock on them. 4. Remove bolt/screw on 'tail' of lock. 5. With nutdriver, remove 10mm bolts from door handle. There's one front and one rear bolt. DO NOT DROP. ![]() 6. Use magnet to remove drop bolts from inner door. 7. With 10mm wrench, remove last remaining nut for the big, black, useless doorhandle bracket. 8. Put crap all back together and go eat pizza. EDIT: If you need to move the window up, the door switch has to be plugged in. Disclaimer: This mod will make your car break/pollute/crash/explode/get stolen. It will be my fault because I told you how to unscrew something. Lefty loosey. Last edited by aspera; 02-18-2003 at 04:02 AM. |

![]() Aspera,
I'm assuming those other things you took out weigh more than the brackets?? The brackets don't weigh too much. As soon as the snow melts and we get a little warmer here I'll look into the rear doors! thanks Did you ever get that anti-theft metal in the steering column? You'll probably need an impact driver to remove the screws though. |
