9th gen

10th gen
"It's possible we're over-using the word "correction" in this story, so let's just say the 2016 Civic was a true clean sheet."

There's some force acting within Honda to mute the styling of the civic, but every time they do it, it negatively impacts some mix of sales, incentives, and sentiment and they end up fixing it the next generation.
Civic sales have been very strong for a long time:

I give them credit for the previous gen, especially with the hatch and CTR they made it more stylish (some people thought too much so). The newest gen seems more conservative for sure but this is the market they are targeting. Just like Subaru. Boring sells.

I don't think they'd stray too far from a design that has worked well for them. I agree the Civic is even further on the boring spectrum compared to the Accord, but it looks better than the previous Civic's terrible over styled and venting all the things looks.

8th gen outperformed 7th gen until the recession
9th gen never achieved best sales of 8th gen
10th gen smashed 9th gen

And all of this is before accounting for advertising, incentives, market share, and public sentiment.

7th and 9th were ugly inside and out. This car is not ugly especially inside so itíll sell well, but maybe not as well as the 10th gen which I see everywhere. Even the base car for 10th gen looks really sporty, thatís unusual for a Civic.

It amazes me how big the Civic is now. I mean why even buy an Accord?

Accord is massive. it's one of the biggest sedans in the segment if not the biggest. It's for people that want that much more space.

I donít think the Accord is selling much these days. I donít get why the Civic needs to be so big. Its not a comfortable car for passengers anyway with the front passenger sitting in a bathtub and the rear is a bumpy ride.

not as much as it used to, but still selling a lot. https://hondanews.com/en-US/releases...-supply-issues

Since the current Camry came out, it's put a hurt on Accord
