I used to put flashing taillights on my bikes, it got people to look up from their phones long enough to use the brakes instead of plowing through me and my ~400lb motorized chunk of aluminum & plastic in there 6,000lb SUV.

When safety equipment is different, it gets noticed, if everyone had flashing taillights, I'm sure they would eventually become white noise.

comparing a red temporary flashing LED taillight that is mounted low on the rear of a vehicle to a light bar mounted on the front a vehicle that projects white light out front is a great example of false equivalency.

Temporary flashing taillights that go solid are legal by the way, it's only illegal to install lights that flash permanently.

Wow. That is excessive. I get it if they are parked, but not for driving.

They are both annoying, excessive, and unnecessary. Your stock lights are enough. Clearly, I pay attention so well that these extra lights upset me.

I had no idea I would spark such an engaging discussion here regarding F1 lights

Admittedly the only reason I had it was because I liked the look of it. I will say that I had it set to just be a solid red light that lights up brighter with the brake applied (as your regular brake lights would). I'm not a fan of the "hyper flashing" mode as I find that to be tacky and excessive, similar to those people who do the hyper blinking mods to their turn signals. Someone else pointed out the awkward square in the rear bumper and that was also another reason I wanted to get it, just to fill in that space.

So, is it functional or necessary, absolutely not, but I liked the look, and to each their own. Obviously I'm biased but IMO there are far more obnoxious things that people do to these cars than a solid red F1 brake light, like slamming/stancing the **** out of them or completely covering their car with anime stickers (I have seen a TON of this around town here on all makes and models).

Agreed there are a lot of questionable things people do.

You got me beat by 11 days. I'm not settled in enough to yell at clouds, but one day I hope to be as big and strong and grown-up as you, old man.

[quote=fredzy;46768116]I think Sigmund Freud would disagree with your assessment that these people are a new thing. The tools of the trade change with time, is all.

No way, the difference in Children having grown up with the Internet in comparison to older generations is pretty cut/dry as far as how Validation obsessed the average youth is.

I mean I get you, its not everyone, tools are tools like you say, brands have to adapt to what the consumer is looking for/needing, by scale of profit. And Economy will always shift the buying needs/power of people. In fact just my stance alone wouldn't satiate anyones view mainly because theres too many compartmentalized factors that go into the whole thing.

Im sure there are plenty of performance enthusiasts working for Subaru and in the design teams. No doubt some of them grew up watching Colin Mcrae. But theres only so much they can do with Budget, global politics, global pandemics, global allocation contracts, different country's needs, when theyre out here literally marketing themselves as "Best for the environment/Highest safety awards of any brand."
Quite the reputation you're setting yourself up for, so you have to step on some toes, especially for achieving "Subaru's Big Picture," Not "The Consumers vision for the Brand."
Perfect time for Mitsubishi to strike hot

I feel that phrase gets overused. I associate that more with people that go down the "when I was your age" road or lamenting "things were so much better in the old days". When it comes to automobile tastes "old man yelling at clouds" applies in discussions regarding new tech, how much better cars were in the old days, and people complaining about the weight of new cars compared to 30 years ago. When it comes to tasteful modding IMO there's no disputing that the older you get the better your tastes are when it comes to automobile styling and modding. I grew up modding in the 90's and what I thought was cool then was in hindsight totally cringeworthy. Things have shifted over the years from handlebar spoilers, fart can mufflers, ugly body kits, stickers all over your cars, etc to stuff like lighting mods and they are almost universally terrible not to mention distracting to other drivers on the road.

Need to put the WRX out to pasture.

It's not surprising though, because, unlike Subaru, Hyundai is serious about its performance vehicles.
Meanwhile, Subaru goes from a 2.0L to a 2.4L and doesn't add torque or power and calls it good. It's just insane.
I'm going to test drive one of these new SPT WRX regardless; but I have very low expectations.

Why waste your time? Go in with a negative attitude, there won't be anything that will change that perception. Just wasting a salesperson's time as well.

Can't wait to see the flame this starts

It's not a waste of time; I will be able to get a proper feel for the car and you guys won't be able to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about because "you haven't actually driven the car"

not negative, realistic.

Its ugly,
its slow
its expensive

none of that is up for debate. Even Ray Charles said it was ugly.

So apparently the special edition Hot Wheels release STI in Forza Horizon 5 had an issue with the "rain light" that they fixed with the latest patch update. Go directly to the 2:00 mark. I thought ya'll would get a kick out of this.

Never said it wasn't any of that. Just that what's the point of driving a car you hate and have ZERO intention of buying?

So, you're going to thrash a new car around that you won't have any intention to buy(that you likely wouldn't if you found out others had thrashed it around), still wasting a salesperson's time. Just so you can show your NASIOC-FU. Got it.
