![]() While the want for the GR Yaris is strong, I don’t see the GR Corolla as a bad thing. There isn’t a ~270hp, AWD hatch available in the US market. The Corolla hatch is 3060lbs right now, so I could see this hitting 3200lbs after adding AWD. It won’t have as high of a ceiling as the FA20DIT WRX, but it could still be rowdy fun for those of us that don’t desire to modify our cars. I think they could further carve out a niche by directly carrying over the LSDs (which has been dropped by the WRX). Split the difference between a WRX and STI or GTI and Golf R. The space is there.

![]() If they positioned it where the FoRS was, I might be more on board. The 3 cyl probably isn't going to cut it at that weight

400 plus 2930 weight of a base corrola puts you right there at 3300lbs plus. Maybe the base Corrola drivetrain is heavier(not sure) but i doubt its heavier by any significant margin. |

![]() The Focus RS was expensive and a sales failure. They'd be crazy to try to replicate that. Is this thing even going to have the Yaris' AWD system?

Camry gains 190lbs adding AWD. The Corolla XSE already has heavy 18x8 wheels and ample clearance under the stock fenders so it doesn’t need bespoke bodywork to fit a 235 tire (unlike the Yaris). It already has independent rear suspension. The Yaris got the Corolla rear subframe and rear independent suspension versus the original twist beam. 200lbs weight gain is a realistic number, IMO. |

I was very close to buying the RS had there was no head gasket and another (?) failure at the time. Ford was waaay behind on the fix and I just got tired waiting for something that might break down the road. Then Ford announced they are cutting the RS from their US line up and that was the nail in the coffin for me. I got the FiST because it was super cheap (used aka pre-tested with low milage, no issue) and the loss would be minimal had I had to throw it away in the trash if it died all of a sudden. FiST continues to be problem free.. and actually fun to zip to the stores in. |

The Camry doesn't get bigger brakes when you go AWD, it doesn't get a turbo or intercooler, it doesn't get uprated axle shafts in the front, it doesn't get a beefier/heavier transaxle; the Camry gets a stick-on "FWD+" part time AWD system that is front biased all of the time. But I vote we agree to disagree, let's wait for the numbers to hit when Toyota tries to cram the Corolla GRMN sized block of salt in the Yaris GR sized wound. |

The Yaris GR-4 has two setups for their AWD. One with open diffs, and the higher trim with front and rear diffs. I'd almost guarantee this f'in Corolla will be open diffs. F'in Toyo, this just pisses me off to no end. Bring us the g damn real thing. |

Other than sharing platform, that is the furthest away from the GR version* as one could get. Long wheelbase : short Sedan : hatch Old 1.8 hybrid : rowdy 1.6T CVT : 6MT FWD : AWD * operating on the assumption the GR Yaris drivetrain is dropping into the GR Corolla |

![]() BestCar and CarSensor Japan had Articles out yesterday that's. That's where all the corolla Hot Hatch GR articles are from.
https://bestcarweb.jp/ https://www.carsensor.net/contents/e...49/_65738.html This is carsensor translated into English.. best I can do, ![]() Starting with the GR Supra, Toyota's GR series is gradually increasing its product lineup with the addition of the GR Yaris, which has been given a special body. GR86 will continue after this. GR Corolla is expected to be after that. The GR series is a lineup that provides users with "the fun of riding a car" by tuned a normal model to make it a sports model. The GR Corolla is the first GR model to use the GA-C platform, and will be the GR model most accepted by most consumers when considering the size and price described below. The base will be the Corolla Sport, which has an easy-to-use 5-door body. The front and rear fenders are widened to achieve tread expansion, creating a powerful look. As expected, there is no difference as much as the Yaris and Yaris GR, which have different numbers of doors, but special products are appointed for the front bumper and aero parts, and the difference is sufficiently produced. The engine fits a 1.6L straight-three turbo. This unit is a high-performance engine developed with GR Yaris and marks 272ps, which is unthinkable from the displacement. There is already little room for growth in performance, and the performance is close to the limit from the beginning, but GR Yaris and GR Corolla, which are one rank lower, are lonely with the same specifications. Therefore, it was decided that the goal would be to improve performance, and GR Corolla has set a goal of achieving 300ps. The transmission is a 6-speed MT with a gripping mechanism that adjusts the engine speed after shifting, and the drive system is followed by a system that switches the front-rear torque distribution to three modes from GR Yaris. Although the maximum output exceeds GR Yaris, the Corolla seems to be slightly inferior in the measurement time in the in-house test. Instead, the GR Corolla seems to shine in terms of cost performance in terms of price. The GR Yaris 1.6L RZ series sells for 3.96 million to 4.56 million yen, while the GR Corolla is expected to be priced at 3.5 million to 4 million yen. With a more user-friendly 5-door body and a 300ps powertrain, it's a bargain price. In addition to the hatchback, a wagon will be installed on the GR Corolla. There is also information that a 2L hybrid will be installed here instead of a 1.6L turbo, so it seems that it will be tailored to a car that will appeal to everyone. * This is a forecast article regarding the announcement of new models as of April 16, 2021. We do not guarantee the announcement [Specifications / Specifications] ***9632; Forecast announcement time: 2022 ***9632; Overall length x width x height: 4400 x 1835 x 1450 (mm) ***9632; Installed engine: 1.2L straight 3 + turbo |

![]() At the end of the day where this all leads is the Golf-R in the USA. I'd just get another Golf-R (Mk8) if I want another hatch and just start and end at the top.

![]() It's going to be a lot of money for a 3 cylinder powered car that won't be special like the Yaris GR.
