Thank you for "taking back your statement".
Side question- why did you choose SleepNMnky as your screen name? Just curious. The Phish song??

Imagine yourself frustrated with my situation. I just feel like certain folks are here just to take cheap shots at me.

Fwiw- I am sorry that I let these people push my buttons. Abd I don't *actually* wish ill to anyone, but please stop smearing me and taking all these petty little jabs at me. We have went back and forth for a hundred+ pages.
I'm 33, no kids, live well, work hard, pay my taxes. I'm just a pissed off guy with a lemon...

Actually i meant it seriously. 79 is older (hard to believe with his posts) and if his mother was still alive that would mean she was much older. So her living with him/or vice versa and answering the phone sounded very logical.

My friends all called me charlie brown because of my luck and disposition...
Sleeping Monkey was always a favorite of mine, my brother who passed away- that song was sorta special between the two of us...

Yeah, I felt that VW owed me, too. You can guess that VW had a different opinion, which was "We'll just handle your out-of-warranty grief on a case-by-case basis." You can also guess that this philosophy didn't exactly give me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

End result: VW sold, Impreza purchased. No regrets. You should consider doing the same.

Luckily, the cars don't depreciate much. Sell it, pay off your loan and pocket some money.

Idk if its oil consumption or poor mpg's but there is NO shortage of new and clean used Imprezas locally.
Similar cars to mine are selling for a grand or more less than I owe.

My ideal scenario would be car/engine replacement... Which I havent entirely given up on, although its more likely to get free food at the local chinese restaurant.

It may be I end up doing the exact opposite switch as you and trade it in on a VW. But onky if its a 2008 R32. Thats the only car that really interests me. I do want to test drive a Fiesta ST though...

Are these cars being sold by dealerships or private individuals?

Both. Actually, the privately owned ones seem to have a higher asking price.
Maybe I can find a smaller dealer that wants to trade a clean, low mile R32 for the "car of the century" and make my day.

Did you put nothing down? I have seen a few used ones for sale and they are only about 2k less than brand new.

edit: just looked at kbb, in excellent condition, the car under a private sale books out at around 18,900. i payed 20,700+ TTL for mine. 1,800 difference is very little for a year worth of miles and depreciation

Yeah, I'm not sure why people buy very young (that is, less than 2 years old) used cars. For the price difference, I'd tell them to buy new. For that small amount of extra money, they would get the full warranty, better financing rates, possibly more good will from the dealership, and that new-car smell.

Regardless, people sell young cars, and other people buy them. I continue to believe that 79 will never be satisfied with his Impreza. The car, dealership, and SOA have shaken his faith to the core, and that's an impossible hole to dig out of. There are too many parties that have let him down.

I've said it before and I'll say it again--79 should sell his Impreza himself, private sale, to maximize his profits and minimize his losses. The older the car gets, and the more miles that are on the odometer, and the fewer miles and months that are left on the warranty, the less it's worth. You take it up the a$$ when you trade a car in, as the dealership must buy the car from you for a low enough price to allow them to mark it up and still offer the car for a competitive price.

Advertise it on Craigslist. The ad is free, and if someone comes along that gives you what you're willing to sell it for, then take it. If not, keep it. If you want to see the brilliant ad I wrote when I sold my TDI, just let me know. I know it's a different car, but you could use it as a template, which would make writing your own ad easier. I sold my TDI in 36 hours on Craigslist. The only reason I didn't sell it in 12 hours is because the buyer had to secure financing, and then travel by train from Albany to Rochester.

But at least try to sell it, and the sooner the better for you.

If selling on Craigslist then you'll have to disclose car burns oil otherwise sooner or later the buyer will see the oil light. I had to do this when I sold my oil burning accord and that car did not have a low oil level warning light. All in all is not easy sell an oil burning new car and have to explain that it is considered normal by Subaru. If I was browsing around the ads, i would skip on this ad and look for another that's just me.

Hey 79. I have not scoured the other 118 pages of this so it may have been mentioned, but have you considered "helping out" your consumption issue? I am not suggesting anything, but they do make suction pumps that might accidentally get the hose stuck down your dipstick tube and draw out some oil. That dang thing might accidentally get you above the golden mark of greater than a quart/1,000 miles.

Before the Nannies attack: 1QT/1,000 miles being considered "normal consumption" by SoA is not very moral either. I would have gone to the dark side very fast if this happened to me.

That is warranty fraud, not regarded as the right or legal thing to do.

Tell me about it. My STI needs 93 octane and I get ~18 MPG.
