I would assume so. I guess it depends on the light source.

OK, I see that Surefire is a really popular flashlight brand. Does any one know how their light output is for light painting? I guess I'm mainly concerned with the color of the light looking natural.

It's official. Nothing involved with photography is cheap! $118 for a flash light?! Are you kidding me?! There has to be a cheaper way than that!

LED flashlights arent cheap. Good LEDs in general are not cheap.

Well, they're really not even "photography" flashlights. I think they're mainly for military use (although these are probably more civilian level versions). Surefire actually makes lights that cost up to $10k!

Hahaha! Yep. Seriously. Mine was about 100$, but, other than the camera/lenses/filters/tripod, it is the single most used piece of equipment I own. I would spend 100$ on it again if it broke. I have strobes, but I never use them. Even bought the triggers and special hot shoe adapter to make it all work (F Sony sometimes ) but they just hang out on a shelf at home collecting dust.

And yes, if you paint well, light painting will give you very even results.

But, if you don't want to spend 100$ on a flashlight, that is up to you. There are always ways around it depending on how you use it. Set your WB for the type of light output, if your light source is dimmer, paint longer. Up to you. I love night photography and do it every chance I get so having good tools for it is worth something to me.

I think the military ones are halogen - or at least the ones I have hanging around the house here are. Yes, they are bright as hell, but kinda yellow. Doesn't really matter too much until you start mixing light sources/temps. Maybe the newer ones are LED and the old ones are halogen?

Almost everything is being switched over to LED now. Much more efficient and durable.

Hang out in the Flashlight thread in OT. They'll make our gear whoring problems seem like nothing at all.

Question guys. I just saw the the new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 is being released at the end of the month with a price tag of $1500. Do you think I should get that or the Canon 70-200 f/4 IS? What's the better buy? I can't really afford the 2.8 as I'm sure that is the best over all option.

Is there another (cheaper) option for a 70-200/2.8 for canon? I bought the Sigma version for Sony and it is great. After the rebate I think it was just under 800$.

Yes, the older version without any VC (vibration compensation) is around $750 I think.

I would definitely wait and see how the reviews/user opinions are on that before buying it.

Yes, you can get non-stabilized 70-200 f/2.8's for around $1,000.

Yeah you're right. I really don't want to have to buy another zoom. I want to do it once and get it over with. That being said, I'm sure everyone will tell me to save up for the Canon 2.8

Dang. Just had a quick glance on Canon-mount 70-200 lenses on B&H. Photography is so expensive.

Nikon is way more expensive! Actually all the recent Canon releases seem to be matching Nikon prices, but up until a year or two ago it was always a big gap.

These are a couple I took with the Sigma 70-200/2.8 the other weekend. On my Sony A580. I don't know why I didn't post them in here - I definitely whored them out elsewhere. Nothing earth-shattering, but I was pleased with them.

I haven't been out to a track in ages. Definitely putting bigger memory cards on my xmas wish list. 2000 photos before lunch, 2 full cards.

What made you go with Sony as opposed to the usual Canon and Nikon?

Question for the Canon guys. Is the 60D considered a big upgrade from the T2i? I see it has slightly more FPS, but nothing crazy
