Bringing this back from the grave

I'm doing research on the tt-s and tt-rs (might be in market for one)

I love how a simple ECU tweak unleashes these cars potential (ecu and other mods for the one above).

The Legacy GT engine is hardly the pinnacle of what Subaru is capable of.

If you want to compare this to something from Subaru, compare it to the R205, or upcoming S206

TT-RS is more limited edition than STI. TT-S is probably more comparable. TT-RS is more comparable to Spec.C or R205/S206.

Legacy GT/WRX are probably more comparable to A4 2.0T, A5 2.0T, or the normal TT, in terms of being the base line turbocharged Subaru offerings.

The headline states that it will be a final 'special' version with lots of 'special' parts, 320hp, limited to production run of 300 units and JDM only (RHD).

Here is the special parts list (based on my limited Chinese reading ability and help from google translate):

- CF front (lower) lip spolier
- aluminum hood
- CF roof
- CF rear spolier
- upgraded turbo (no specifics given)
- model specific ECU (no details about this either)
- 19-inch BBS Alloy wheels (no specifics about wheel and tire sizing)
- Bilstein coilovers
- upgraded sway bars
- front strut brace
- 6-piston front calipers and 4-piston rears
- custom exhaust (and different placement..don't know what they mean by this)
- STi S206 shift knob
- S206 badging

I haven't found anything from Subaru Japan regarding this car, but i'm sure there must be something out there...

And yet TT-RS is still "arriving", and not arrived.

And the comparison to Legacy, then or now, is still not apt.

Whether I get a reply from 'legav05' or not doesn't negate the point for others to read it.

And you were the one to un-earth this old thread.

lol lol I know I was the grave digger :-)

Just messing with ya a lil bit man thats all

Yeah the TT-RS is still elusive, the more I read the more I like but then I also keep looking at other cars in the same price range and say "Well **** if i can buy a new RS then i sure as hell can buy this for same price (or lower in some cases)"

Oh well interweb car research never killed anyone, so I will keep on digging.

He probably dumped his Subaru and got an Audi, given how he used to drone on about the golden ratio.

If you wait much longer, and the next gen R8 comes out... a used R8 4.2 might cost what a new TT-RS would cost.

I wonder what they'll charge for the upcoming R4... Or whether that project is on or off.

If only Subaru could do the same thing with 2.5L... 332ftlbs @ 1600 rpm puts v8's and v10's to shame. Sounds like a fun car to drive.
I'm sure if they had a reason to they could.

If you like the TT-S engine, then just buy a Golf R.. same exact uber built motor. Just tune and enjoy

This thread is about the expensive non-US ttRs...with the 2.5 I5 turbo...like the RS3. Here we only get the tts, which you are correct is essentially a coupe GolfR

Huh??

http://models.audiusa.com/tt-rs

3300lb car.....

Not bad for a simple OTS flash....

APR is a pretty awesome company that makes really quality stuff. Its not cheap, but its not like stuff you buy for EVO's/Suby's. You pay a price and a box shows up with your door with absolutely everything you need to isntall said part, down to the last nut, bolt, washer. And it all fits exactly the way it should with zero hassle, with OEM or better quality.

I was down at the facility earlier this year looking at their TTRS shop car, R8-GT, S4, and GTI race cars...in the clean/engine build room they had a TTRS 5cyl motor with a massive GTX turbo on it and a one-piece cad inconel manifold. I joking-ly said it sucked they couldn't do twin scroll on the set up and the guy kind of laughed and explained their engineers had timed the exhaust pulses from each of the cylinders and adapted each individual runner of the manifold to tune the exhaust pulses...which is impressive since their wasnt room to mount the turbo center on the engine and use an equal length manifold...they actually had to time it so cyl 1 impacts the turbo 2x for every 1x cyl 5 does, but its all spaced and tuned so the pulses on the turbine are steady. Beta stages for it were over 600hp....pretty impressive for just a bolt on kit. The APR facility is extremely impressive. Multiple clean-engine rooms, total CAD/fluid dyanmic shops for production, CNC shop, CNC cylinder porting, onsite inconel casting, complete environment controlled dyno room for steady temp, pressure, etc....every day is the same day on the dyno...they build and break-in engines on site, tuning/programming, on site race facility etc.

I saw the above ttrs at a race at nurburgring when I was there for a few days a couple years ago. it was outright fast....sure the 911tt and the z06 were faster but no subarus were. lol

the I5 doesnt sound too bad either...(1080p)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=iacH56BIR08

The TT-RS is a very capable car, but by all means lets keep the hatorade flowing....or we could probably just appreciate another fine machine.

ah....

I can never keep straight what we get and what we don't.

My point was the other poster was talking the Golf R as a cheaper option, while the TTRS is a different beast entirely.

And I'm on record earlier in the discussion. My point with the RS 2.5T motor is that its more capable than the STi 2.5 due to being a much more expensive motor. I'd still give many redundant body parts for a RS3.

all true.

the current i5 is a great motor. I5, extremely stout, variable valve timing etc. Its a fantastic compact inline motor.

APR made over 50whp to their Golf R motor through their CNC head porting alone with a gt38rs turbo. the current VW/audi direct injection motors perform very well.

Here in Austria the RS3 hast that 2.5 I5 turbo engine.
The same as the TT-RS has in Europe.
Car testers say the RS3 is a "housewife" car for driving to shopping-mals.

Show me any TT-RS higher ranked than the SUBARU on the 28th place !

Well, that's easy:

#114 - Besaplast TT-RS (20 sec faster)
#111 - Raeder Motorsport TT-RS (23 sec faster)
#110 - Raeder Motorsport TT-RS (11 sec faster)
#115 - FH Köln TT-RS (22 sec faster)

Which isn't really that surprising, considering the Subaru competes in a lower class.
