Default 2009 WRX Hill Assist & Traction Control

Hi there, I am new to this forum world so if I am posting in the wrong place or anything please let me know.

Anyways, I recently bought a 2009 WRX with 80,000 miles and the Hill Assist and Traction Control lights with the slashes through them stay illuminated at all times. I've read other posts with a similar problem but their ABS light is also on but mine is NOT on.

I have tried adjusting the brake switch and I also replaced it but this did not solve the problem.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Maybe the previous owner deactivated the hill assist. Stop on a slight hill. Apply brake and clutch. Release brake. If it rolls back the hill assist is off. If it holds in place then hill assist is on. If the hill assist is off read the manual to reactivate. The hill assist light should turn off after you activate the hill assist. If it stays on then you have another issue like a defaulted sensor or light.

IIRC if the light is on that means hill assist is OFF.

I attempted this and they remain on still, I heard from someone that it could be from the steering rack and pinion/ steering angle sensor. Any thoughts on that?

Disable Hill Assist on 2015+ Subaru WRX and STIhttps://youtu.be/u3l7qsWt6y0

These are instructions for turning it on but if you follow these same instructions you’ll turn it off as well

Could be from multiple things.

I have to hold my shifter to the side in reverse-otherwise the back up lights won't come on.

After a few times of just reversing without holding side pressure (no reverse lights). I'll get the hill assist light & the assist doesn't activate.

Fine with me-I haven't tried fixing it.
