Not likely. I mean I also own a manny 2.5RS. Though a sedan, still polar opposite vehicle. I also own a 3 row Tiguan. Again, polar opposite. And a turbo wagon in the middle. The only thing the LXT might reveal is how much I want the FA24.

So I will have to drive it and compare to my '05. I've owned the BM Legacy sedan so I know how that generation handles and as I've already mentioned I was not impressed with the current gen either. It just FELT big.

I agree it feels larger. I just enjoyed the drive. Was really wishing I could have taken it around a few more laps. I have not been a fan of our training for years now rushing us through.

It could certainly use stickier tires if you want a "better" drive. I remember the SGP Impreza training. The car certainly out drove it's tires. This one kinda felt the same; but, better.

We have one on order for a customer who will be going out of the country. He want's me to break it in while he's gone if it comes in after he leaves. I'm like "no problem". This is a guy that goes to Southeast Asia a lot for work and brought me back a bunch of Levorg literature.

But, over other Legacy trims, GT did get a boatload (pardon the pun) of other “sportier” stuff beyond the engine upgrade: Sportshift 5EAT, reinforced clutch on MT, MOMO steering wheel, sport seats, quicker-ratio steering, underbody cover, larger and ventilated brakes, VTD AWD system with rear LSD, sportier tires, and you could look at it and tell it was a different trim. And all with an 80-lb weight gain at maximum.

This is where XT falls flat, IMHO: lack of differentiation beyond the engine bay. I’d like to see a Legacy tS next year (keeping the turbo but dropping the XT name from the trim level... “XT tS” is too many letters!).

Interesting how a car that hasn't been reviewed yet has it's bones picked clean by the Wisher Clan. The only so-called "reviews" are obviously by women, spending all their words on a center console and how it rides. Idiots miming other idiots. You can tell who their target audience is; review junkies who'll peck every crumb off the page like chickens on corn.

No performance reviews by accredited motorheads.

Yet here we are already wanting something else done... when no one really knows what the base line really is yet. But that doesn't matter when you're focused on badges, T&A, and inane comparisons to either "somebody else's" cars or those from yesteryear... does it. Nor is it a different conversation than that which seemingly the N&R record is stuck at. Over and over and over and over.

It gets boring. Nothing to learn here. Just a bunch of guys with posters, mags, and a keyboard.

How about focusing on ONE CAR for a change. Ditch the oh-so-knowledgeable stuff. Some people don't GAF what you think. Just talk about what IS for a change. Oh, because no one knows yet?

There is not a chance in hell anyone is going to convince me to buy a VW, BMW, or anything else you have or think better than the subject of a thread. It gets sickening listening to that record thump thump thump ad nauseam.

Remember, while the previous GT received these "upgrades", it had to as it was intended to be a sportier version. The H6 also existed as the humble Legacy with a more powerful engine. This XT is intended to be the H6 replacement, and never intended to be a GT replacement. I never seen Subaru claim it to be. Heck, they didn't even reuse the "GT" moniker.

Just because the Legacy received a turbo engine again doesn't make it a grown up WRX. We live in an era where turbos 4's serve and tuned as just an engine upgrade. Heck, it's a standard engine in some pedestrian CUV's now. In the family sedan world, the Fusion, Accord, Altima, Malibu, 6, Sonata, Optima all have turbo 4's available as engine upgrades. The Camry is now the odd one out with a V6. Out of the above list, the Accord 2.0T is probably the sportiest, maybe the 6 Turbo, but the rest are just humble, along with the Legacy XT.

Now, Subaru didn't use the "GT" name so there is a spec of hope that a sportier version could exist down the road, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah **** this Legacy XT. Nothing to see here with its pedestrian specs and performance. It's really only an Ascent sedan after all. Move along.

Do Canadians Subarus count?

Subaru Canada is using "GT" on the turbo Legacies.

The turbo engines have been incredibly problematic for Honda, and turbo VWs have never been known for reliability either. Mazda's idea of throwing more cubes at it is actually smart, considering their cars get comparable (or better) real-world fuel economy along with the higher power levels.

If you think a 2.5L Mazda3 is gutless, you must have never driven a 2012+ Impreza. Now THAT is gutless. It's the same weight coupled with a power draining CVT and an engine that makes 40+ less horsepower.

That being said, I've been saying for years that Subaru should throw the 2.5L in the Crosstrek or Impreza as an optional motor. It's not like the 2.5L cars get worse fuel economy than the 2.0 ones, they're all in the same range - and considering the lighter weight of the Impreza/Crosstrek compared to the Outback or whatever it would make up for any difference. It's truly a win-win situation for the power complainers and Subaru just saving money by throwing in a readily available engine. I really don't get why they haven't done it yet.

If I'd been shopping for an Impreza (I'd gone to get Legacy XT lit and talk to a salesman about it) I'd have ordered one with a 2.5 had it been an option. For sure a little turbo. Because more horsepower is always better. Or so I thought before I bought one.

But I bought the car I saw sitting in the showroom. Couldn't take my eyes off it. It was everything I wanted and would have ordered, right there. I took it home.

After these past weeks I've learned what a great car it is, and how well it drives and handles. I have only floored it once and that was to see how it did. Between the ultra flat torque curve and the CVT programming it does whatever I want smoothly and without showing any strain whatsoever. I've explored driving it under most circumstances now, and whatever qualms I originally had about its small NA motor was gone weeks ago.

In a world of nothing but curvy roads, power is the least of my thoughts. The car handles so incredibly well I'm relearning all the curves again. It's often a game... leading a hotshot behind me in and then, without touching the brakes, smoothly exit and am well up the road before he gets out of the curves. With this kind of handling power isn't a concern whatsoever.

I'm saying the Gen5 Impreza is good just the way it is. That's not to say, however, an optional engine would not be welcomed by many. Just not me. I'm good. But someone who hauls people and cargo long distance may well want and need more power. Likewise it could expand the appeal of the Impreza to lots of people who, like I was, won't buy one because it doesn't have enough power for them. It's a fun far as is, but a little turbo would make it a lot funner. And for certain Subaru would sell a lot more of them.

So why haven't they? If it ain't broke, don't fix it? Lack of capacity to make more? I dunno.

Sadly only people on Nabisco (here) and LegacyGT forums would buy such a car, and then only a handful would want a manual.

Good point about replacing previous H6. It was not always that way with the H6, though. Take a look at the 2008 3.0R Limited’s “sporty” upgrades beyond the engine bay: improved, more responsive 5EAT with paddle shifters; VTD; 18" alloys with sportier tires; Bilstein Sport Suspension, inverted struts; aerodynamic body kit; SI Drive with Sport# button on steering wheel for fast access.

My ‘09 3.0R Ltd was the best Legacy I ever owned, and the best overall car. By far the best sound system. Great seats that made long trips relaxing. A faultless ride. And the most exotic sounding Subaru engine ever.

Yet I just couldn’t love it. Walking away and looking back, it looked too tall, too plain, its wonders hidden beneath a plain jane sedan’s skirt. Traded it for a POS WRX hatch. Then it for an STi. Etc. But I’ve always wondered why I got rid of the 3.0R. I know, but it isn’t logical: No love.

I’m concerned that the same fate may be in the LXT’s future. Nothing the illogical senses can focus on that makes you feel great every time you look back. No iconic exhaust note for the ears. No stance. Nothing to make you sit next to her and offer a drink.

many countries tax for displacement so that may be part of the reason subaru keeps using 2.0 liter engines

Yeah, the Bilstein Legacies for our market were stance fails. Did anyone actually bother look at the end product after they threw all the parts on it? Definitely not a good look. Even with the wheel gap my Legacy wagon roofline is the same as my GC RS. The new Legacies absolutely dwarf the BL/BP cars.

Plain handsome styling perfectly sums up your BL 3.0R Limited and the LXT. Very similar save the hugeness of the LXT.
