Default ABS, Traction Control and Hill Assist Lights On

Hi there and Happy 4th,

My ABS, Traction Control and Hill Assist Lights came on when I started my car yesterday morning. This has happened to me before on very cold days during the winter (Vermont) but typically will go off if you restart the car.

However, these are not going off. And the cruise control will not work (makes sense).

I am Stage 2 (down-pipe only). The accessport did not throw any error codes when I ran a scan.

2013 WRX Hatch. 85K miles.

I did some research into the problem and the forums mostly pointed at either the brake pedal sensor or steering angle sensor.

My question is should I take this to my local guy (specialize in Subaru) or the dealership. I'm outside the warranty but I feel the dealership may be better equip to handle this kind of problem. This is a bit outside my wheelhouse to troubleshoot.

Thanks in advance.

If the lights are on there will almost certainly be a code. Try a factory scanner.
Without the codes it is a wild guess. There are many powertrain faults that will cause all three of these lights and the cruise control not to work.

I've read other posts that stated there was no code associated with this issue.

I have a generic scanner which I will give a shot tomorrow.

My gut is telling me to just bring it to a dealership.... Thoughts?

Try your scanner and see if you get codes. If you do look into what they mean. If not off to the dealership.

Spoke to my local guy--99% sure its the brake sensor that has burned out. He's seen a few older WRX's with the same issue. I have an appointment Thursday and will report back.

1%....

So we replaced the brake pedal sensor, which didn't resolve it. The abs scan showed the rear right wheel speed sensors... Replaced that and the lights were still on. Ran the diagnostic and even with the new sensor a 0 mph reading was shown. My mechanics guess is the bearing or the abs computer.

Any thoughts?

Confirm the wiring from the wheel sensor are operational.

P.S. If your mechanic needs help from this forum for such a simple issue then I suggest you find someone more competent.

Hi guys, just had this same thing happen on my 2011 STI, did you ever get to the bottom of this issue? Just looking for some guidance and an idea of what this is going to cost. Thanks in advance!

Hi yes.... So apparently it was a connection issue. There was a wire that was somehow spliced (mouse or a tear) that needed to be mended. I had to bring it to the dealership. Cost around $200
