Default Getting pictures of your ride?

Where do you guys usually get good pictures of your rides? i find my self needing non-cell phone pics of my car and only thing i can think of is buying my self a legit camera and learning to take pics my self? which i am pretty interested in photography other than taking car pics...

just wondering, any inputs?

what you really need to ask yourself is... do you want good pictures of your car? or do you want to be a photographer?

odds are you can get a camera or rent a camera or borrow a camera and get a halfway decent picture from any of these options, but if you want something a magazine would want to run you're better off hiring a photographer. you'll spend just as much renting pro equipment as you'd spend getting a local photographer to shoot your car, and pro equipment can be next to worthless without a pro to operate it.

if you want to be a photographer, invest in an SLR and take a class at bcc or through pcnw. you don't need a nice slr, you just need one with manual controls. pick up a nikon d100 at glazers and a 50mm 1.8 and you can take pictures that will knock people's socks off with around 50 hours of hobby learning curve time.

then again you can get a single picture worth its weight in gold with less investment than the 'be a photographer' route outlined above.

start meet up
find someone with camera
pay them in sexual favors

I'd take photos of your car but my shots are less than mediocre.

I've been lurking the idea of getting a SLR, didnt think of taking a class at bc tho, maybe i'll do that. thanks! and i really liked "pro equipment can be next to worthless without a pro to operate it." haha

i'm a photographer, however I haven't shot cars at all. if you need pics i can probably hook you up.

trades would be nice.

or you could get a good quality point and shoot and learn some photography basics and DIY.

^Buy a point and shoot. Unless your car is special, I don't see why you would pay someone to take pictures of it. Having a camera will come in useful every time you upgrade parts, want to sell parts, or anything else that requires pictures (duh).

you can't lurk an idea. you can lurk a forum. you can lurk a swamp in the deep southern bayou. you can even lurk an airplane as a venomous snake.

but you can only consider ideas. if you want to be able to make images like this:

whenever you want... about any subject you want... for any reason you want... then you should take a class in photography or spend every second of the day teaching yourself how to use a real camera, be it an SLR or a film rangefinder or a twin lens reflex or a view camera.

if you just want a nice picture of your car, there are tons of people who will gladly take a small amount of your money and a moment of your time to make a beautiful picture of your car.

that's just how the cookie crumbles.

On a serious note, if you're not really into photography and just want to get better pictures, buy a Canon point & shoot camera and a tripod. If you really want to get a little deeper into photography, I bought a D60 kit and a "D60 for Dummies" book, and have been learning as I go. It's a fun hobby, but can get very expensive once you outgrow the kit lens, which is almost immediately. Not that there is anything wrong with the kit lenses, there are just a lot more "fun" lenses out there...

I'm self taught as well as a lot of the great photogs here
and heck yeah..... still learning as I go....

I started with a point
and shoot and now have tons of gear, all of which I need, yes i do!!!

The key to getting decent photos is understanding light and how it reflects through the camera.

Practice. Practice. Practice.
