Hmmm... I wonder if he really meant to say leaks. 'Cause if you were to replace "leaks" with "consumes" then it would be a reasonably accurate statement.

For a high mileage Leg that has assorted weeping oil seals and a slightly tired motor, consuming a quart between changes is believable. Mine does.

Now, if a whole quart of oil actually leaks out, that's a big problem.

there's a reason this guy has a 95% rating...

I wonder about this comment: "In-dash 6 cd changer, thickest gauge amp wiring kit available, with 2 big fuses in-line."

Is he saying that he has double zero gauge wire in his car? For a bunch of clarion and blaupunkt crap?!?

Maybe he's running 4/0 feeder?

That stuff is good for 400A per leg @ 240vac

I will say the custom deck in the back is pretty sweet. I like the way he seamlessly integrated it into the existing interior, so that you can hardly tell there's a new floor back there. And I bet it looks even better with the spare tire sitting on top!

Actually he is claiming that the '95 Impreza EJ22 motor that is powering his '99 Outback has only been 50,000 miles since being "rebuilt". No way should a Subaru be consuming that much oil with so few miles on it.

+12345 My BD had 121k on it when I traded it, and it did not leak, burn, consume, or any other word to describe loss of oil. You could check it at 3k miles from the last change and it would still be on FULL.

And for every person who can make that claim, I will find you a larger number of people whose cars do use oil. A car that doesn't use a drop of oil at 121k miles is a statistical anomaly.

As for the ebay ad, I didn't read the whole thing, so I missed that the engine only has 50k on it. Still, I don't think a quart every oil change is that outlandish, even at 50k miles.

You guys are missing the point. The reason the guy is a tool is because of the $1000 NON REFUNDABLE deposit...on a car that can't be worth more than 5,000.

No, you're missing the point, Mark.

Manny clearly pointed the supposed oil leak issue in his very first post, and seems to be the focus of his tool accusations.

If, in fact it's just a consumption problem and not an actual leak, then people are overreacting.

Isn't a $500 or $1k deposit standard fare for an ebay auction?

-It's actually a remarkably thorough and detailed auction listing. Far better than most. So I can't understand why people are all bent out of shape about it.

I don't think it's 1000 dollars. Considering cars go for a whole lot less on eBay all the time.

I certainly wouldn't pay $5,000 for that car...

Quote:
This car also leaks about a quart of oil in between oil changes (It is a Subaru; this is expected).
Doesn't say WHERE the leak is. Could be a big issue, could be a small issue.

Quote:
There are some slight stains on the carpet and seats that can be removed by a light scrub.
Some wear and tear is to be expected.

Quote:
Tires have plenty of tread on them, but rear left tire has small dry rot cracks; should still last a while though.
Dry rot means they need to be replaced. They don't get that way from being driven daily, either. The car(or tires) had to be sitting around for awhile. If it's only ONE tire, why? Was that one replaced? Or were the other 3?

Quote:
There are a couple slight scrapes to the tint in the rear.
Not a biggie, but does bring down the value.

Quote:
There is a very small amount of overspray on the rear bumper guard from touching up the gold (This can be removed easily with a clay bar kit I purchased, and if I do not get a chance to remove the overspray by the end of the auction I will give you the brand new clay bar kit and it will take 15 minutes to do.)
Why was it "touched up?" Was it in an accident? Very possibly...

Quote:
Front left headlight just went out recently and is another easy fix, and I will try to replace by the end of the auction.
Why even bother putting this in? Why not just fix it, and be done with it? Possibly a larger issue there too, as most people would just replace the bulb and leave it out.

Quote:
Some prices of things I've invested into the car: The in dash 6 cd changer was $200. The speakers, amp, sub, and lightning cap were around $750. The wheels and tires were $800. The tint was $250. The all-black grill was $100. The optima battery was $120. I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but this is definitely not your average Outback, and I have invested a decent amount of money into this (just mentioned equals over $2000).
The people(normally) that would buy an Outback, aren't looking for this stuff in the car. They want it stock, and they certainly don't want a hideous stereo thing in the rear of the car. None of this adds value to the car.

Quote:
Car was just serviced at the dealer (spent $450 on fixing a check engine light problem, transducer, knock sensor, and a bunch of vacuum lines were replaced, receipts to show).
I don't know that this is a common problem either, so that could be a potential issue as well. Vacuum lines on a 99 being replaced? Again, why? From sitting? Dry rot? Some idiot under the hood cutting things? All of these devalue the vehicle.

So, I wouldn't put $5,000 into this car. And I'd classify this guy as a tool, for thinking his "contributions" to the car should add value.

edit: I missed this...
Quote:
The roof has extremely solid filled in holes where the roof rack was. They have been sanded and have very slight patchmarks. It was hard to photograph even, probably needs a little more spot putty over it to finish it off. Holes were primered and sprayed with touch up paint that is slightly more blue than the rest of the car. Is not very noticeable in photographs and is very minor but I feel the need to mention every little thing so the buyer of this great car will not be surprised in any way.
That's a big problem. To fix those holes RIGHT, costs a LOT of money. If all he did was bondo it and crap, the it's likely to crack again later on. I know, I tried it. It's not an easy fix.

The KBB value that he quoted in his auction, is for a "good" condition car. This car is probably on the low side of fair, making the private party value closer to $5,000.

Wow im surprised there is soo much talk over this car.... We've all seen worse on ebay so this isnt anything new. Yeah the car is a little messed up but atleast he explains the truth about it all.... Most would say "here's a great car, no problems to be seen... buy it now!" Whatever, talk what you will.. I give him some credit for tellin all the details, even if they arent in his favor.
