Subaru Stars Please help! Misfire, running rich, wont idle...

ok so heres some background,

my car is an 02 wrx with a complete sti swap (wiring and everything) , so its basically 04 sti... heres the problem

Car wont idle, wont build boost under load, revs fine cold and not under load, spitting a lil smoke like its running rich, misfire on cylinders 1,3, and 4. im going to do a compression test soon. ill post a pic of spark plugs in a sec...but all of them look the same. they are black except for the tips, they look lean... its weird.... any ideas??? thanks nasioc!!!!

looks like your getting oil on the plugs other then that the tips actually look a normal color

this is arguable cuz to me that looks like excessive carbon buildup.. probably from running rich. I don't see any brown in there to think it is oil.

i don't know of a way to check but also i don't know of a cause that would make low voltage across multiple coils other than a damaged harness... worth a check but i think it'd be something else... can you pull the fuel trims? if it's trying to pull fuel i'd start by checking the condition of the injectors and make sure the plunger is completely closing off the spray completely. Again, these seems like an unlikely cause since it's happening at more than one cylinder, but it's worth a check if the ECU is actively trying to pull fuel. If you're ECU is dumping the fuel in on the other hand, i'd make sure your timing is correct & haven't jumped a tooth on the belt. If that is all good, head to a tuner.

well i got to thinking and im going to flash a stock map to it using my accessport... i havent installed it yet but im thinking maybe the ecu has been messed with or something... maybe its tuned for larger injectors or something. its def not oil. , its running super rich , at 1500rpm the timing is around 25*advanced... soo something is up. Im not very experienced with tuning and whatnot , but im trying... i need a taxtric cable! lol Anyone know if i could use my Accessport cable?

did you just finish the swap and are running into these problems?

What ecu are you using?

What version AP do you have?

Im assuming you converted to drive-by-wire?

yup , complete 04 sti swap, i was told it was 04 ecu (it shouldnt start if its an 05 ecu because i dont have the immobilizer stuff) , v1 accessport (not installed as of the moment) , i just cant figure out why its running rich and whatnot? Its not throwing any codes except for pending codes misfire on cylinders 1,3, and 4. I would assume due to it being so rich. im going to install the accessport and flash the stock map... maybe the ecu has been tuned or something... soo idk...

could it be a sensor failing but not throwing a code? I would assume it should throw a code if it were.

You should never unplug the front O2 sensor, it is critical to fueling. However, a bad o2 will or could lead to the problems you are describing. Is the front o2 from an ej257? Is your AP for a 2004 Sti?

I unplugged it to see if anything changed.. im not running the car without it. I know its critical. I would assume its for an ej257 , it was on the motor when i received it. So theres a good chance it could be bad..

Don't think so, ill double check it tho. It would have to be a massive leak for it to not idle at all...

Maybe it's the IAC. If it's faulty it's possible it could cause a rich condition.

Is this a new setup or have you been running the STi swap for awhile?

STI motors dont have IAC valves. Drive by wire.
