Dude get some leds or a stick of neon , hide the bulb under there , get the power from something on your park lights like a gauge(boost gauge in my case) so you can have the effect going all the time at night.

So lets see :
2 sticks of street glow ultra mini = $20
electrical tape - $2?

Stick them under the dash or run some small screws through them
Neatly hide the excess wires or shorten it
turn on your parks
and bam you got a $25 footwell light job.

Rinse and repeat for the backseats!

Time to install 10 mins!

Pics: from my crappy cell

I think I'm going to wire my blue neons to a switch and wire either white LED or CFL to the dome light for footwell illumination when the door opens.

I tried that one time on a previous car , not so effective, maybe because of the make up of the inside of the vent on that car i guess, but mounting it to get the effect was alot of work. I had a better chance mouting leds on the ceiling and directing them to the vent area.

Does anyone have pictures of the Subaru kit installed? I am thinking about getting it but would like to see what it looks like first. Thanks.

Why? Do you leave stuff on your car's floor? Have a bug infestation and you don't want to step on them?

I have all my interior light off but that dim trunk light - I know where my seat it, I know where the floor is...

Not trying to be a smart ass - I don't like interior light when I open / unlock the car because it's gives schmucks a chance to peer into your car if they are walking by as you get in / unlock it. And as I said while driving I like the interior as dim as possible as well so I can best see the road (it's negligible but I prefer it)

I only need the switched lights for when I drop crap or need a dim mood light.

does the red kit match the 08 wrx/sti gauges or is it more of a deeper red?

I saw those, and they are from Subaru, I was asking more for real world ones. I should have been more clear.

To have them on when you open the door or unlock the car (via remote), can't you just run the wires up either the A or B pillars and rig it to the dome light's power source? That way, whenever you open the door or unlock the car, you'd have the footwell lights turn on along with your dome light.

Edit:
I recall someone putting LEDs in the door sill and he used the dome light's power source so they turn on with the dome light, so I figure the concept should be the same, right?

I would think you could tap into about any wire run that does the light thing, open of doors/FOB activation, and then dims out.

I did this on my last car being an RX-8. I used LED strips, on the driver side I used two 5 light strips. I mounted each under the dash on each side of the steering column so they wouldn't show. On the passenger side I used one 10 light strip under the dash. I taped into the existing line using in-line crimps. Cost me around $15 via on-line ordering. Took around 1/2 hour of time.

I plan to do the same on this car. The only question in my mind is which wire? When I get ready I will just trace one from the fuse block, if I don't find out on-line, for one that behaves as described above.

Take care,

Brian

My only issue with the kit is the center console light is blue. So, if you do get the kit in red, you have a center console illuminating in blue. Does the STI have a red light in the center console?

Haven't installed them yet, and I'm not seeing a red cubby light to replace the blue, but I don't mind the blue.
