Well the synopsis ATM is he changed my oil to the correct amount. I have good oil pressure and everything. He said you should have nothing to worry about.

And he quoted me on a timing belt replacement for around 1000$ and I may gett it after this winter

Did he say how they checked the pressure? Or did he just start it an no light came on?

Stop using Mobile 1 and RP. Check your oil early and often as these cars eat it.

$1000 for a timing belt is robbery. Not even close. You can buy the entire Gates replacement kit with the tensioner and pulleys and belt for about $300 or so. Labor should run you another $300 or so. A local Subaru shop can knock it out in an afternoon easy.

Or buy a case of beer and pizza and invite over some locals and learn how to do it yourself.

Did not state how he checked. But I could also check myself by buying one of those things mentioned earlier in this post? He said it was good so I took his word.

And the timing belt was a rough estimate. I don't plan on bringing it to the same guy. I would rather bring it to a Subaru place to do it.

He changed the oil, started it, and called it good. Your "friend" isn't doing any sort of favors for you.

At this point it truly is beating a dead horse. We told you what to do to PROPERLY figure this out, you argued it with us and your father, and ended up just getting an oil change. If the motor lasts, then great it was a fluke. If the motor goes, told you so.

Timing belt change is 105K miles or 105 months. Which ever comes first. Never ASSUME something is good with a car or you can put it off, otherwise a 10 dollar fix will turn into 1,000 or more.

Any more questions? I honestly feel like it's not getting to you.

You asked him to check the oil pick up, which is INSIDE the oil pan. He changed your oil. Do you not see how this isn't the same?

We're not asking you to control someone else. But, as a consumer and your mechanic providing a service, you can tell him what to do. An oil change is not checking the oil pick up.

I understand he wasn't concerned that this wasnt *the problem. As Honda something said before. It seems like people are making it out to be a Extremely common thing for RIGHT when the oil light came on. I drove 100ft. The oil could have been a quart low. It was about 800-1000 since the last time i Checked it.

The oil could have been a quart low, but you said when you checked it it was "way over" indicating over filled. So where is this oil coming from/going?

And I agree that oil pickup's are on a low side for failure for the most part, but it does happen. I also know that taking action and figuring out/fixing the vehicle the right way before something catastrophic happens is smart.

It was way full after I put 2 quarts in without checking Inbetween quarts. I probably only needed one

Just wanted to weigh in on this: I've had my '07 WRX for about 20 months or so, and my oil light went on last night moving it on the street. Stopped the car, checked the oil level and nothing out of the ordinary. Matthew perhaps it WAS the moisture. I'm also in MA and the all-so-useful light was off this morning.

And the car wasn't started for almost 2 days in the cold and a small amount of snow we had this weekend. So idk. It could've been many things but I'm glad people here gave me the worst case scenario but I don't think my case was to extreme

Subaru tech / service manager for 10 years, wanna guess how many broken pick up tubes I have seen? 1, and it only broke because the oil pan and subframe were nearly sheered off when the driver hit a retaining wall @ 40mph. Broken pick up tubes are not nearly as common as people make it out to be.
That's crazy, I feel like I Hit the powerball twice already.

Read like the 3rd post at the beginning of this post.
That is what happened. Car was cold started it. Could BARELY even see it. 40 seconds later. Not even visible
