Default Planet Subaru - Hanover MA

So I have been in the market for an '05 STI for a little while, been looking around and checking some out. Ended up e-mail Planet Subaru about a 2004 WRB STI, just to take a look at it really. Got a reply from Mike there to set up a time to come down and look; I couldn't make it there to look due to "emergency plans" with my family.

Couple weeks later they got in a PSM 2005 STi, which I was pretty excited to go take a look at. When I got there, I noticed right away it had a Borla exhaust on it, and a strut bar. Those were the only two mods I could see, but it also had a CEL on and some other issues that needed to be fixed; that one was out of the question.

I told Mike what I was looking for in an STI and we talked quite a bit about them. How we both didn't really like the new 2008 look and about previous MY's. Talked some about LGT's and other Subaru's etc. I asked him to keep me updated on any 2005 STI's they were getting in and gave him my prefences of color; of which white was last on that list.

About a week had passed when I got an e-mail from Mike saying they had just bought another STI (...in white!...), and it would be on it's way up from Florida shortly. The car was a lease, so I was very hopeful that it would be in good condition and stock. So I waited patiently for the car to arrive here in MA from FL. One week went by, nothing. The next week I sent Mike an e-mail asking about the status of it, to which he replied that Chase had made a slight boo-boo with the title and it would be arriving soon.

Another week...then two had passed with no sign of the STI. Now I was wondering if Mike was just messing with me...I sent Mike another e-mail and he replied that they had just got in last night! He also noted that the car had a seriously dark tint, one of the darkest he has ever seen. Later that day he took out a tint meter to measure it, and it was 2%! I told him I would be there first thing Saturday to take a look at it! Even though white was last on my list of preferences, I really liked it. Aspen White with Silver BBS.

The next day he e-mails me saying someone from Canada was ready to buy the car. He wanted to put down some money come down and pay for the rest upon arriving. Now I am thinking "oh great, I've been waiting a month to see this car and now it's going to be sold right out from under me." But that wasn't the case; Mike had told me if I wanted the car it would be mine. He wasn't going to sell it to the Canadian if I was interested. So I put a deposit on it and went Saturday to look at it.

The car was in amazing condition; just a few minor paint scratches here and there which are not even noticable unless you are right next to the car looking for them. We took the car for a test drive, and it drives great too. There are no signs that I have been able to find that it was modified with any aftermarket parts. It does have an OEM short shifter, boost guage, auto dim mirror and the arm rest extension (which I really like! ).

We filled out some initial paperwork that Saturday and I had asked Mike to touch up some of those scratches a bit I went home. Come Monday I left work a bit early to make the drive with my father to finish paper work and pick up my new STI. My father had to come to sign the paperwork on my old RS since he cosigned on it. After finishing the paperwork and handing over some money, my father and I went home in my new STI . He drove it home for me because I was not comfortable with a M/T since I had not driven one in about 7 years; needless to say, he really enjoyed the car (he had a nice Chevelle when he was younger and had not been in a fast car since).

That night while I was driving around my neighborhood learning the car, the rear window had fogged up. I turned on the rear defrost and right away noticed the radio had so much static you couldn't hear the music. Turned the rear defrost off, the music came back; so I left the defrost on for a good 20 minutes or so and the window stayed foggy. I sent Mike a message here on NASIOC and let him know I would tell him what the issue was in the morning (since it was late that night). The next morning came and I e-mailed Mike letting him know about the rear defroster. He told me that when they were removing the tint they probably sliced some of the embedded wires; he told me he would order a new back window and have it installed free of charge. Two weeks later I drove down and had the new window installed; they also gave me a free loaner to use while I waited.

To end this painfully long review (yikes, didn't mean to make it this long!) I just want to say that Planet Subaru has been nothing but accomodating to me. Mike was always honest with me and always willing to help me anyway he could. Their sales and service have always been great for me (bought my RS there as well), always willing to accomodate my needs.

Thanks again Mike, Deb and Jeff over @ Planet Subaru!

And this is why I plan to buy the 2009 Forester there also. Mike was also nice enough to let me test drive it that day also. Friendly people over there!!

I actually just bought my Legacy SE about a couple of months ago from them. Still great. I dealt with Deb mainly. She provided me with any information I asked for. She even asked me what type of car I drove before so she could tell me how it feels when you sit in it. I was going to purchase a Forester Premium X but decided I didn't need the extra room yet. Legacy still has enough room for me now. If you do go back there just tell them that Paul and Sarah told you that they are still good to go to. I would go back there again to buy my next vehicle. They are a little more expensive but well worth it because they are not pushy like other dealerships I have been to. I hope all goes well. Let us know how it goes.

I cant believe this post. The EXACT same issue is happening with my 05 LGT I purchased a week ago from Planet Subaru. Im waiting until they open this morning to call them about it.

I was worried it might be an electrical issue.

Thanks for the post.

Planet subaru did the same thing for me. Gave me a rental to use for X amount of time while they replaced the rear window for free.

Default Lost customer forever

My only slight positive opinion with this dealership was the price. I made a stupid mistake of posting a thread about my disappointment before getting my car, they threatened to cancel my order and keep the non-refundable deposit unless i removed the thread i posted.

Post #2 of this thread summarizes them up pretty well with the exception of the service department. I got mostly cold shoulders from them until they were happily promoting how I'll get $50 gift card per referall and holding of the resale value to Planet Subaru if i participated in their Passport program. I just said..."sorry, I won't be back for future service, new car, or recommendations to anybody I know," since what they offered isn't worth the treatment I've recieved. The only thing that made them quick and responsive was whenever I expressed my opinion to the general sales manager. First time was the threat to cancel the order and the second time was to get my feedback on their service.

I bought a car from Planet Subaru last April (2008). Overall I was not impressed with the service. I live in Ottawa, Ontario. After corresponding via email about one of their vehicles, I arranged an 8 hour road trip to go see the car and purchase it if everything seemed to be in order. When I got there, the vibe I got was that they thought I was going to purchase the car regardless, since I had traveled so far to see it. It wasn't until I got up and was walking out the door to leave that the sales person offered to get somebody else to help. After some additional talking, we asked to get the car on a lift and took a closer look at the underbody. We found some damage which was quite noticeable with the car on the lift. The friend I was with who is in the automotive industry advised me that it would probably cost close to $400 to get the damage fixed. It was like pulling teeth to get any sort of a discount on the vehicle to cover this damage. They finally agreed on taking $400 off the price, only to add an astronomical 'paper fee' which nullified this discount. To this day I still have no idea how the Planet Subaru mechanics who looked over this car missed the damage. So I am forced to conclude that they are either incompetent and didn't notice it at all, or dishonest as I was not informed and would not have known had we not discovered this ourselves.

In addition, after returning to Canada I found some additional damage to two of the rims which was also very severe. The way the marks looked, it was apparent that they were there for some time and were not recent. The marks seemed to have been caused by a machine, as they would have been impossible to cause by curbing the vehicle. Since I was focusing on the car and not the wheels, I missed this damage as well as the slight structural damage that was present on one of the tires as a result. The car failed a safety test up here in Ontario and I was forced to purchase new tires, and get the rims fixed at a cost of $300.

In addition to the above, I went in to a bodyshop today to get them to look at the trunk lid, which I thought was crooked as it was digging in to the bumper on one side when closed (damaging the paint as a result). I got a free appraisal, and the body technician showed me that the trunk lid was not crooked, in fact the trunk lid lines lined up perfectly with the back of the car. It was in fact the entire bumper that was crooked, as well as the taillight assembly! The entire rear under side of the frame is crooked, indicating this car was in a collision. This was also not indicated to me, and now, one year later, I have no recourse with Planet Subaru. So, I will be forking over another $800 to get the frame of this vehicle repaired.

Sorry Planet Subaru, due to my experiences I have to dissuade anyone reading this from shopping with you. Once the sales manager got involved and realized I was a serious buyer, you guys were great - very courteous and helpful. But I was less than impressed with your sales team, and the above oversights are in my books unacceptable.

I will never forget what the sales person said to me when I asked for compensation regarding the body damage I found: "You're from Canada, you're already getting a really good deal by buying your car in the states. What more do you want?" Yes I know cars are cheaper in the states, thank you for stating the obvious. The state of the economy doesn't excuse their lack of care in inspecting the vehicle, and failure to notify me of the damage which was present. Overall, thanks to the economy at the time I did save a lot of money by purchasing this car from Planet Subaru, but I could have saved much more had I gone to another dealer in the Boston area, or anywhere else within an 8 hour drive of Ottawa.

edit: Just found my invoice, I wanted to get exact numbers. After the $400 deduction was taken off for the damage we spotted, I was then charged a $288 "documentary preparation fee". Thanks, guys.

I too recently bought a car from Planet.

They seemed great until I got down there to do the deal (I live quite a distance away). Then things went south.

To sum things up. I would NOT go there for service. I would not buy another car from Deb as she was great 100% till the deal was done. She contacted me constantly and replied right away... Till I bought the car... Then I was quickly brushed off. I recall some things on the car needed attention (problems with the brand new car i was delivered) and when I brought them up to her she said "Thats something your local dealer can look into"

At that point I was disgusted and did not contact her again, nor do I see myself returning there again.

Seeing that they gave someone grief about posting their experience pisses me off even more. Thats down right dirty imho.

Oh yeah... now that I recall I when down to get my car, and they screwed something up and I had to leave my car, and take a rental (that I had to go get, they paid for most of) home and go waste another day of my life going all the way back down there again to get my new car...

If you want entertainment, try to get a price out of them via email.

They're the "undealer," - who does the same old song and dance high pressure sales routine, wrapped in a terrycloth robe.

Did you know all the used cars they sell are classics or near classics, in extraordinary demand?

I'm surprised at these reviews! I just bought my car from them at the end of june, and I couldn't be happier with them! I found it on cars, and emailed them they then called me the next day. Since I'm from upstate ny, and I knew what I wanted I've been searching for almost a year, I told them I didn't want to drive almost 5 hours each way to test drive the car, and then do it again in a week to get the car. So I got all the pictures I wanted to make sure the car was stock. Sure enough the turbo heatshield was there and everything. I got a carfax ,and put my down payment over the phone. They contacted me everyday to let me know what was going on. I told them I wanted the car before the 4th of july because I was going away. They set everything up, and I picked it up june 2nd. They even drove it up almost 3/4 the way. I met them at the Troy DMV with the car, I checked it out and it was everything they had said it was. Debs daughter drove it up for me, and even filled it up before they got there. I dealt with Scott and Deb mostly. I would give it a 10/10, I guess I just got lucky from the reviews I'm reading in this thread. They actually proceeded to call me the next day, and week and then again recently to make sure everything was going well with the car. I would recommend them for sure. The only thing I would say is don't expect them to budge on the price much.

hey AirManCam,

If they screwed all of their customers they wouldn't be in business. In my opinion, a *good business* or *bad business* is defined by their honesty, integrity, how they deal with unusual circumstances and how they accommodate the customer. Planet Subaru was very accommodating to me, and I definitely appreciated that. They accepted an electronic payment from me. They shipped me the key and paperwork (to Canada) at their expense. They got all of the customs documentation ready for me to pick up. They left their gate open one night so I could drive down and pick up the car at midnight, since that was the timing I needed to make sure I got back to the border in time to cross between their business hours (the crossing I used had really dumb vehicle import hours). I definitely agree they will do whatever they can do accommodate their customers, within reason.
However there are other issues involved in purchasing a car, such as disclosure and honesty. Claiming a 'thorough inspection and detailing of every vehicle', and then either failing to notice / failing to notify the customer of wreck damage which would be evident to anyone calling themselves a mechanic is something a *bad business* does. It sounds like you did your homework, knew what you wanted, and everything went according to plan. So congratulations on your new purchase

I bought my STI form planet Subaru in Jan 08. They were nothing but awesome. I live about 3 hours from planet and there was amix up at the DMV due to CT holiday so they delivered the car to my house free of charge and told me even if i ended up not buying the car they would happily drive it back to MA. Two ups to planet Subaru.

Wasn't entirely pleased with Planet Subaru. I just bought an 06 STi from them. James was the guy I worked with and I didn't feel he was entirely honest with me. I asked him the typical round of questions, paint condition, exterior damage, interior damage, etc. He did tell me that it was a dealership buyback because of some warranty work and that the engine and center diff were brand new SOA installed and that the exterior was perfect. What he did not tell me was that both of the left wheels had curb rash and a lot of rock chips and the front left brake caliper had a fair amount of cosmetic damage. Both of the driver side doors had a fair amount of rock chips towards the bottom.

Apparently because of Massachusetts registration laws I had to have the car registered before I left the lot, so that means that I had to own the car before I could pick up the car. When speaking to them about buying the car I was assured that I would be able to be picked up from the airport and that D.F. Green in Providence would be the best choice because of cost. They were right about that, D.F. Green was cheapest by far and I informed them that I was going to fly in on a Saturday. After the car was registered and I was ready to pick it up I called them to make sure everything was in order and gave them the time my flight would arrive so they could pick me up at the airport, at which point I was informed that I would have to take a taxi because they were "too busy". Now, I understand that Saturday is a busy day, but still... It would've taken one person an hour and a half to pick me up and considering that the car was already sold they could've done me that favor... I even spoke to the sales manager who told me the same thing. So, I ended up having to take a cab ride which cost me more than my air fare. Anyway, other than the cosmetic damage the car is in great condition. I just wish they had informed me rather than just saying that it's "perfect", when it was far from it. Had they told me about all the paint damage I probably would've bought the Ltd STi they had (but when I got there I just wanted to look at it and noticed that it had regular WRX door cards instead of the leather Ltd door cards)

Default This place is a joke.

Hi everyone,

I don't buy many new cars, and this was such a bizzare experience that I felt I should share it with the group. Back on 10/23/09 I was in the market for a new WRX (09 or 10') because I was losing interest in my 2008.5 Mazdaspeed3 GT. When I bought my MS3 it seemed like the better choice over the 08' WRX at the time and for good reason. My wife has a Subaru and I wanted to check out one of the new and revised models with more power, revised suspension, and other elements which is what I felt the car was lacking at the time.

Planet was referred to me by my in-laws and other locals who purchased some cars from them 3-4+ years ago, and they had a decent experience.

I sent Planet Subaru an email, and got a reply from their internet sales department (Deb and Scott). They had a 2010 WRX black base model listed on their website for $23,999. This seemed like a great price and exactly what I was looking for (a base model, and wasn't too picky on the color) and sent a few more emails about my possible trade back and forth. Deb mentions to me that the black one is sold... but a white one is coming in to fill it's place instead. This seems fine to me, all I want to do is check out the basics and the car itself, see how much space it has compared to my MS3, etc. I get an email saying that a new 2010 white base model WRX has shown up, but the price is now $25,100. - Because it is white - I find this a little strange, and decide to head into the dealership 2 days later anyway.

I show up for my appointment, and Deb is out of the office. Instead I speak to a rather unfriendly person named Scott Kielbasa who explains to me in short terms that the black base wrx for $24k is gone at a ONE TIME ONLY SPECIAL price to move a unit they had in stock. They do however have a white base wrx for $25,100 with no options. I asked the day before why it was more money and in his reply to me said - "The Black one was a special. It has sold. The white was swapped in at 2pm today so is not yet on our website. It is a base, no accessories added to it. White is a VERY hard to get color, so in turn requires us to pay for it. We cannot sell it for the same price as the black one.. Right. This is the same story I got in person as well.

So I'm at the dealership... with my crystal white pearl (a color which actually costs more money from Mazda) 2008.5 Mazdaspeed3 ready to look at a new car and make a deal, and I'm already instantly turned off from doing business with Scott or this dealership because I'm getting the runaround on a new base model wrx price and availability. So I say to Scott, "Well, I'm here - let's go outside and take a look at this car, you can view my trade, and here is my license in case you need to make a copy or do whatever you have to do for me to drive down the street in it." He looks at my license funny, pauses, and walks away. Two minutes later he comes back, flops back in his chair and says "Look, are you really serious about doing business today? Because if not it's a brand new white wrx with only 8 miles on it and I'd hate to put any more on there unless you were totally committed to making a deal happen this afternoon. It's a rare car and we ship them all over the world and (blah, blah, blah) I don't want to rack up extra miles on it. I stare at him for a minute, and while I'm thinking about him wasting my time and trip down to the dealership for nothing - what else I can ask for.

So I tell Scott that I understand his position on de-valuing this one of a kind rare 2010 base model white WRX, because honestly I just wanted to SEE the insdide of a revised WRX and maybe drive the thing around a little. I did not have to have super-duper white, it wasn't a big deal to me. This still did not motivate him to go outside in the overcast / drizzle to let me see the car. So I ask if in his dealer allocation system if he can tell me when the next one is coming in, and he replies with "Sorry, no I can't, I have no idea". He explains that I could order a new one, but that could take "up to six months. MAYBE as early as 90 days, but could take as long as six months". He also apparently couldn't tell me what any other dealership had in stock, or offer any genuine assistance to me in any way, shape, or form.

At this point I'm pretty disgusted. I thought I was in a car dealership, and not the Subaru Museum of America. I've never had a salesman flat out refuse to even open the door of a car for me to look inside. This wasn't a $36,000+ STI where I could see qualifying the customer before they move forward with the vehicle inquiry, this was a run of the mill WRX. I take my license back, and say thanks for having me over at the dealership and walk out. In all honesty, I'd like to thank Planet Subaru for completely wasting my time that day, my travel, and my experience in general.

As a result I walked out the door and called Mastria Subaru down the road on route 44. They had 3 WRX's in stock in various colors, invited me over lined one right up next to my current car to compare them side by side. They gave me the keys and a plate and said go take it wherever you want - around the block, up the I-495 highway, whatever. We'll be here. They worked with me on the price and on my trade in. Their complete dealership experience from bottom to top - phone reception to dealership manager was terrific, and I bought a black 2010 WRX the next day.

As with all things in the world, there wouldn't be an ironic conclusion unless I added the email I just got back from Planet Subaru today:

He's mad because his last name means "sausage" (kielbasa) in Polish. Don't sweat it, dude, I can't stand Bel-Air Subaru in Baltimore, MD either. I'm thinking for my new STI (or FXT if my girlfriend can REALLY convince me) to go to Anchor or Manchester

Sinitron-Scott was the person who sold me my WRX and he said gave me the same crap about the rarity of an WRX. I lol'd and tried to leave for another dealer but he caved in to my requested price. In the end had put a dent in my wallet with 2k worth of fee and tax as collateral damage.

RaceTM- same thing here. with all the fee's and taxes my car ballooned 2k in price.

A friend of mine wanted to trade in his 350z at Planet for a new STI but low balled the trade-in value at 7k, so he took his Z to a VW dealership and got a GTI with the Z traded in for 11k. Talk about shameless low balling...

All in all...the worst guy in there is Corey (aka viperenvy here on nasioc), who I think is the sales manager. To put it nicely he was a snobby douche who thinks he can talk down to customers like he's god. I bet that's where Scott (he was new there when I purchased my car, still a jerk as I see from other people's reviews) learned the ropes from this guy. Lastly, Deb was great emailing me updates on my car but her professionalism is as shallow as a piece of paper, as soon as the sales complete, any verbal agreements were forgotten.

Never going back for another car or even recommend then to another person

thought about purchasing one of their soa executive sti's. they are both wrb w/ nav bbs pckg. they both have under 5k miles. but being an out of state buyer and reading their reviews i think i may skip dealing with them all together. seems like they do alot of run arounds.

I purchased my Impreza from them in October and had a pretty good experience when buying. The only weird thing was the sales man being hell bent on a deposit, I have never put a deposit on a car was buying 5 min later. I was disappointed last week when I noticed a bubble on my tire, I called to set up an appointment hoping for that day but they could not see me for a week. I explained it was a tire and I didn't want to drive on it for a week. I was told there was nothing they could do that was the soonest they could see me. I ended up going to town fair and saved a bunch of cash.

The only thing I can truly recommend about Planet is their parts department. This one guy who works their is pretty cool. They have certainly gone out of their way to find stuff for my car (aka parts that shouldn't break). Never used the sales department, don't plan on buying a dealer car anytime soon.

As for the service department. They couldn't diagnose my problem and yet charged me for the visit anyways. I'll take it there for recalls, but that is it. I'll do the rest of the work myself.

I just picked up my '12 WRX 5dr.
Bob Choate was very professional and quick to answer any questions I tossed at him.
Dave in finance also worked with me and got me a very good deal through a local credit union.
I've had very good, consistent results with the service department, and found them to be very respectful of their clients.

I've had bad experiences with dealerships in the past, Planet met my expectations, and showed me that not all dealerships are pushy or shady.
