Seems as if most of the Subaru community hasn't stumbled upon Scrubbing Bubbles as a method to clean their engine bay. I've seen a lot of pictures on the BMW and even a couple of the Corvette forums.

I'm waiting for my engine bay dressing to come in the mail...then I'll be cleaning with scrubbing bubbles. I'll be posting pictures after!

If you look it up online, you'll see quite a few people swear by it. I'm talking about M3's, M5's, and some Corvettes.

Cool. Never heard of using scrubbing bubbles before. I have done the WD-40 method which works well but I feel that WD-40 attracted dust to easily when done. I was bored so grabbed a can of scrubbing bubbles and went to town on my commuter chariot. It's not a Subaru but it makes a good test dummy.

before

This engine bay is mostly dusty with a few grimy areas. I used the whole can by doing two applications. Once the bubble guys did their deed I started the engine and carefully rinsed the bay off with a garden hose. The Vcover spark plug valley started filling with water so I just had the air compressor hose handy to blow the water out before it seeped past the spark plug boots. Ran the engine for another 10 minutes then went for a quick drive.

after

I would say the scrubbing bubbles does a good job and eliminates some of the elbow grease to get dirt out of tight areas. Once it dried it was better but I suspect that following up with an engine bay dressing would show the best results. I did not have any though. I will try it again on my other cars and try getting some of that GG engine dressing. Doubtful you could hurt anything in trying this, in fact you would have to try really hard to damage anything. Give it a try.

Anyone recommend a nice, safe dressing to use?

aerospace 303 or adam's 'in and out' spray

JarHarms - Thanks for posting pictures! Looks pretty good without the engine bay dressing! I can only imagine what it'd look like with it.

Can you get those dressings locally? I actually ended up going with CD-2 Engine Detailer from CorvetteCentral.com I read/heard nothing but great reviews about it so I thought I'd give it a try.

I ordered 2 bottles ($7.95 a bottle) due to the fact that it's very hard to find locally. It is arriving today so I will finally post some pictures after everything is done

Where abouts are you in the NW? In Everett there's a marine shop (can't remember the name off the top of my head) that sells 303. Stuff isn't cheap, but I only have to use it every couple months on my interior plastics and it keeps them looking great.

My engine bay looks really good for having 110k miles, but I really want to try actually detailing it sometime!

Glad to see someone above mentioned Adams Polishes 'In and Out' product. Great for plastics under the hood like engine covers, wiper cowl area etc. Product is water soluable and overspray is easy to wipe off. Another thing you can use is 'VRT' from Adams which is short for vinyl, rubber and tires. Makes your tires look like new and is not shiny or greasy. Dries extremely quick and does not sling off. Great on dashboards and interior trim as well. He (or one of his local vendors) is usually at most of the Carlisle (Pa.) events. You won't be disappointed with any of his products. A lot of instructional videos at his website.

I'm not too far from Everett, actually. I live near the Bothell area.

Think this stuff would work well for heavy (1/4") oil deposits/crud?

Maybe the pressure washer will take off most of it.

It should work for the most part! You may need to do a little scrubbing though depending on how much is caked on.

Be careful when using that pressure washer! A simple garden hose attachment used on the setting "shower" will work perfect

I found/bought some scrubbing bubbles last night. Think this stuff is safe for the storm sewers (washing car on driveway) or should I take it to a carwash where it hopefully goes to the Waste water treatment plant? (like it would if used in a toilet/shower)

Umm, I've used it multiple times on my driveway. I think it's pretty safe? If it's engine bay safe, I'd say the same about the storm sewers haha.

If you're that worried about the environment, take it to your local carwash

Have fun! Don't be shy when spraying either. I typically use an entire can!

Try and post a "Before" and "After" pic as well

Has anyone here tried using a normal aerosol degreaser? I might try and compare them both... see how they do.

I'll put up pics when I get done.

Does this work the same with the underside of the engine... oil pan etc. That's the part of my car that needs the most TLC. I'm hoping it doesn't just run/fall off.

I'm sure if you get in between the crevices and spray down there it will be fine.
