Slow coolant leak on '07 WRX
OK. So I've had a slow coolant leak over the last 3 months that I cannot pinpoint on my 2007 WRX. I have to refill the overflow reservoir once every month basically. I cannot identify any hoses that look to have a leak or any coolant pools in/around the engine or radiator. Oil on the dipstick has no noticeable white film. No white smoke from the exhaust. I ran the engine at 4K for 10 min to try and get some pressure into the system and produce the leak, nada.
I went under the car today to try and find the problem and I found this: It is on underside of the block, drivers side. It has what seems to be oil accumulating on it. Any idea what this is? If you are feeling motivated, here's the video of the undercarriage. Any pointers would be appreciated. Any suggestions on other things to look for would also be great, I'm at a loss for what else it could be. |

Have you removed your stock turbo? If you did, you might want to double check that the oil return line is securely attached (as it may leak if it's not).
As for the coolant leak, it might be the same thing. If you did remove the turbo, one of the 2 coolant lines going to and from the turbo may be leaking as well. The OEM clamps on these coolant lines are not very good. |

Powertrain is completely stock. I've checked all the hoses i can find, and none of them seem leaky. I'll check around the turbo a little closer.

Yeah, pull the TMIC off if you have to and take a good look around the turbo itself and around the turbo inlet. You can also check around the PCV valve (buried down there) see if there are any traces of oil around it.
Hopefully, others will chime in with more ideas about where these oil/coolant leaks could be coming from. |

After a long drive...get close to the radiator and smell it. I have an 06 sti and have a similar issue...no coolant in oil, no smoke out of exhaust, no pipe leaks...however the radiator stinks of coolant after long or spirited driving. I believe that the radiator has a pinhole leak somewhere....I watched a YouTube vid where a guy preassure tested an after market radiator spraying it with hot soapy water after pressuring it....lots of small holes and air bubbles all over. I will be switching out my radiator soon because I thibk that's the problem. Good luck.

Pressure testing the cooling system and using soapy water to find leaks is the best idea.

Update...I installed new radiator and still loosing coolant. Turns out I had a tear/crack in one of the small hoses that attaches to the neck of the filler spout (where rad cap goes) I have not replaced the hose yet but that's my leak. If you are smelling coolant...its one of the hoses I'd say.
