Default 6-spd into GC8

well, I'm an old head around here and did my searching but find only contradictions on what to do for front axles...
The tranny I'm looking at is a 03 JDM STi six speed (ty856wb3ka) and from the pictures of it, it requires innies for the front cv's. What axles can I run?
will the STi's (1" longer per side) cv's fit with the GC control arm?

Thanks,
Micah

Did you find Jaxx's FAQ on axles? I think the information you seek lies within. I don't know the answer, but if you continue to have trouble finding it, I've got a local tech that's done a few of these and knows what's what...

didn't break yet but PAR (had) and PPG both told me that their 5-spd dog boxes would not hold the power I am looking to make...so cut my losses and sold the box before I broke it.

Now I have to go to a dog box 6-spd as they are rated for more power...hence the 6-spd conversion
damn extra 80lbs

So PPG's engineers are incompetent and don't know how to do failure analysis?

Let's all second guess Homemade WRX, he never knows what he's talking about!!!

Homemade, any reason you couldn't convert to GD control arms? I guess if you're trying to stuff big rubber in the fenders that wouldn't help you much.

Did I say that? did I even remotely hint to that? no.

give them a call and ask them. hell, give Andrew a call and ask him how much power they will hold. You wont get a straight answer. All they will tell you is "how much power are you looking to make" then they will say "well we recommend this..."
They will not say oh, well this set will hold x amount and this one y amount. I've asked and asked and asked... many times.

8sec Skylines are running PPG dog boxes and havent broken them. So yes, I will second guess him.. I have personally NEVER seen a PPG failure due to structural limitations of the PPG gears, infact... I dont think there has been any documentation of failures of the gears.

Dogbox 6mt jebus
Will you be doing the 4 or 5 gear dogbox?

Actually thinking about your orginal question.
I'm not the best with trans tech, but this is my setup:
I am running RS axles w/ JDM wrx front hubs on a 03 JDM 6mt.

The stock axles wont hold at the power you want to make so just ask the driveshaft shop to make you a GC8 length outie setup. I am pretty sure the stock STi shafts will work in a GC8....I cant remember ever hearing about half shaft bind.

But.. but... but... He couldn't possibly have said that, PPG doesn't even know how much they're rated for!!!

That's what I figured. Of course, you could do like Luke Russell did on his red Brighton track car - flare that bitch!

Hey Micah,

I used 04 STI axles on my car (95 Brighton, 05 STI Swap with GT30R, soon to be GT35R). The Early 04 STI Axles seem to be the biggest factory axle. To use them you need ton convert the transmission to using "outie" axles. The conversion is very simple, and I have the kit if you want to do it (Basically consists of two stub shafts and two front diff seals)

yeah, I've heard of the axle stub conversion kit but can't find anything on the...I'd be very interested. drop me a PM or I'll drop you one...so the axles fit in length wise with GC control arms?

and patrick the car will be going back to the 35r for track fun, so I had thought heavily about fender flares...problem is finding an pair that works with a 4-door

I'll try to dig up the pns for it, but it's only about $30/side at the dealer.

if you get all the STI drive train then you are fine. i did to my 94 STI(GC8). your rear member might be different so the studs in the back of the rear diff might need to be changed out for the longer ones. just take the rear studs off of the old GC8 diff.

you probably have the R160 drivetrain(most GC8 have this) and all the STI(GDB) comes with the R180. if you have the R180 suspension then it will clear your CV boots. if you use the old GC8 suspension then the bottom of the suspension might not clear the boot and cause it to wear out fast and break. everything else will fit.

i didn't read any of the above post... just wanted to throw my 2 cents
