Would this rallitek 1/2" spacer help with strut drop?

Yeah, I imagine that would do it.

found this thread after finding out that my stock rear struts are leaking and need replacing. I find the stock setup a bit harsh and i bottom out on ****ty roads pretty often. What would be a good strut to upgrade to for a better ride while keeping the height and not have cornering feel suffering too much?

Uhhh... Koni?

This isn't really a thread about strut options. It's about Konis and their fitment.

Quick update: one of the Epic rear springs broke so I ordered a set of 2010 STi SE rears part # 20380FG111 and installed yesterday. Only settled overnight but measuring 13.75", hoping they settle another 1/4"-ish to match the fronts. They ride great and very happy with the 250# spring rate.

Recap: Koni sport struts, front OE 11 WRX springs & 10 STi SE rear springs with no additional spacers yield roughly 13.5-13.75" fender gaps. Ride quality is very good with rebound set 1/4 turn off full soft.

My secret weapon arrived last week.

Rear went together fine.

Sleeves didn't fit on the front.

Measuring the sleeve, it had a 52mm diameter.

Measuring the strut body, that had a 51mm diameter.

So it will fit. But there's a disk at the top that's a 55mm diameter.

Nothing a bench grinder can't handle.

Boom, sleeves on!

Suspension assembled.

Not on the car yet. Will probably get these on next week if I can get an alignment scheduled. Otherwise, they will have to wait for January.

I'm thinking that with these adjustable sleeves, I can counter the rake from the short struts.

Question I've been wondering. I've read through this thread and xluben's thread regarding the 08-10 struts in an 11+ and how it'll drop the car 1/2 - 5/8". If I were to get the full front/rear struts for my 2013 and used King Standard Height springs (raise the car about 1/2 inch per an email to Primitive ), would there be any issue with this setup?

Last edited by Defibrillation; 12-17-2017 at 10:06 AM. Reason: Adding email from Primitive Racing and what I would like to install this setup on.

@ defib: I 'think' your rear will sit higher than the front using the same springs, you may want to question Primitive if the rears don't work out can you purchase/exchange for Kings lowering rear springs to even out the rake.

@darkstar, good point, rake would be present and would prob need springs to calm it down, for lack of a better word. I also found a great deal for inserts recently and will most likely pull the trigger for those instead of the 08-10 WRX donors.

Believe me, I have made Koni well aware of all the differences and similarities of the struts and told them exactly what they will need to design and build to get a product to market. It will come, we just need to be patient.
Any updates, is Koni still working on a solution? I see on their site the complete kit is still listed as TBA.

My master plan worked. The GC setup brought my front height to 2.5" above stock and I was able to adjust it down to 0.5" below stock.

Front to rear height is pretty even.

Are those drop in?
This thread mentions that Konis 1140-0461S are a pain to install https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=2686604

Also can the lowering be adjusted? I might not want to lower from stock ride height

Did you read the thread?

8710 1454LSpor and 8710 1454RSpor are full struts. That's what this whole thread is all about.

It seems that 1140-0461S is the old sport kit. The thread you referenced is 4 years old. Koni currently lists 1145 1050 on their website. That one is probably different and may include struts and not inserts.

Honestly, the inserts aren't that bad. If you have a set of donors and can work a drill and a pipe cutter, you'll be fine.

I had inserts on my old car ('09 2.5i) and they were fine. I went for the full struts on my new car because I think the geometry is better.

Ok thanks although to me it's not clear what's the difference between 8710 1454RSpor and 8710 1454LSpor

Also are they compatible with a base 2009 Impreza (non-wrx)? Thank you

One is Right (8710 1454RSpor) and the other is Left (8710 1454LSpor). Being full struts, there is a difference between right and left. If they are inserts, being the same on both sides, there would be one part number. Much like the rears.

They should work on a 2.5i, yes. If you get WRX springs, the ride height will be a little wonky. The NA models have less weight in the front.

Ok thanks. So if I put the stock springs I currently have on top of these new Konis, is it fine for a sportier ride that can still handle potholes?

I'm reading here that one should replace front strut mounts as well? Subaru OEM? https://www.rallitek.com/assembled-s...2008-2010.html

so, Koni did not (yet, and probably won't) make a full strut for the 11-14. So for us with 11-14 wrx, we are either doing the insert or going with the 08-10 gen full strut that they offer.
Am i correct in making the above statement?
I want to make sure if I were to go with the full strut setup, would it be a plug & play (and it seems I would re-use my springs for now) for a 12. Seems like based on the OP, just trying to make sure I am not overlooking something here. Thanks

Quick question, when assembling the rear Koni struts, should the lower spring perch be free to move around? Is it fine as long as the spring is in the perch stop? On the stock strut it is welded..

Yeah it can spin freely without load, but once the spring is installed, it'll hold it tight.

Also, be sure to install it like a bell, not like a cup.
