Voyles closed because they were asked to. Royal had management issues. To own a dealership you have to have lots of cash, experience in the car business and plenty of credit because you are going to need it. Having 100+ cars in inventory x $25,000 average for each is a big loan payment every month (although not for the entire car amount like a retail loan.) If you think you want to be a Subaru dealer in the south, be prepared to struggle. Go work at a dealer and work your way up to a General Manager. |

I was told that it will be a sub dealership location for Troncalli Subaru. The walls are pretty much up for it now so it could be in business by the time new models start being announced this Fall.

Thanks for the info guys.
With Voyles, I knew they had some issues. It was co-located with their Hyundai dealership, and they treated the Subaru side as their red-headed stepchild. The whole focus was on Hyundai. I wasn't surprised when it went away. I didn't have any experience at Royal. I just heard a rumor they were closing, and drove by it a month or two ago and saw the lot empty. I'm glad that we have a new one opening. Keeps the Subies flowing into Atlanta. (I usually frequent Subaru of Gwinnett (since I live less than 10 miles from it)) |

SOA Blog,
Are there plans for any future radios that display station and song info? I have a friend who has a 2004 Dodge Caravan that has this feature (and, no, it's not satellite radio, it's just standard, terrestrial, analog radio.). Why don't Subies? |

Oh, good. Thanks.
What about HD Radio? That seems to be getting more popular. Will this capability be added (or has it been added to the Forester and Impreza)? Whether it's pre-wiring for an HD receiver, or including an HD receiver in the head unit, this would be good future-proofing. With TV broadcasts going all-digital next year I foresee radio broadcasts going digital not too longer after that. |

HD Radio is also licensed and owned by a company, not just anybody can release an HD radio, so it's unlikely that the government would support a private enterprise like that for what are supposed to be public airwaves. THEN you look at a manufacturer adding it. Well for one, license fees would have to be paid. Two, Subaru does not make the radio. The radios are made by Kenwood & Panasonic as far as I know, so it's something that would have to be coordinated with them. Third, I don't think it's something most customers are particularly interested in spending the extra money on. I can count on one hand the number of customers I get in a year that are interested in adding satellite radio to the already satellite radio capable vehicles. Most of the Sirius+XM that I sell are already on the car and the customer is just OK with it being there, it's not a selling point for them. I have never had anybody ask me for HD radio or if it's included, etc. And finally, if you look at other manufacturers, very few right now are on the HD radio bandwagon. There could be contracts too preventing it maybe, who knows. I know for awhile manufacturers who signed up with XM/Sirius were not signing up with the other side due to the contract. Personally? I can't imagine spending the money on HD radio just for the same old radio: Commercials every 5 minutes and oh boy, extra top 40 stations to pick from. I guess that was the long way of saying: It could be on the horizon, but I think it'd be very silly if they add it. If you want HD radio on the factory head unit, wire it in to the aux in. |

SOA Blog,
What are they going to do about the 07 Sti. With all of the engine failures happing. Are they still handling this on a case by case basis. I know the stock tune is horrible even after the dealer reflash. What does Subaru plan on doing about this>? |

An MGB?! I have a Triumph TR6 that I've restored and I find it amusing that you and I have landed on reliable Subies for our daily transport. Get another MGB (or any other British car!) and you'll really feel good about the solitude gained by daily driving a Subaru! Thanks for all the comments on this forum and let's get cracking on that 3.6 liter turbo Legacy for me, okay? I'm gonna 'outgrow' my STi someday and I'm gonna need something to get from Point A to Point B. |

I'd be almost as happy with a normally-aspirated 3.6, if it's over 300 hp (325-350 would be about right), but a turbo H6 would be a must-have-at-all-costs vehicle. |

SOA Blog,
My wife and I have ordered an 09 Forester XT Limited. We placed our order in mid to late April and still have not gotten confirmation that the vehicle is even in the country. I have been in contact with my salesman, who has informed me that the vehicle SHOULD have been landing in Baltimore on or about the 21st of June, and should be available for pickup before the end of this month (June). My question is, why does Subaru not have a better system for tracking orders, or is this just a weakness of my dealer? So far they have not been able to give me a decent answer concerning the status of my vehicle, and with 3 days until the end of the month I am starting to doubt that I will see my new Forester before July. Is there a process in place which allows dealers to check on special ordered vehicles? Is there a process in place which allows customers to check on special ordered vehicles? What is the best way for me to get an honest to goodness update on my vehicle? Thanks for reading! |

^ LOL
I too ordered 09 Forester XT Limited at the end of April, and it finally arrived at my dealer yesterday. I've been driving a rental for the past month while waiting for it. The vehicle tracking process appears to pretty much be a black hole. My dealer couldn't get any sort of status on the vehicle until it arrived in the country, and after that it was simply listed as being "in transit" until it showed up. Kind of frustrating. |

SOA Blog.
Why SOA is not doing anything about the epidemic of oil pickup tubes failures on STIs and LGTs? Mainly 06-07 STIs and 06 LGTs, but also many reports of failures on 04 STIs. How come SOA has nerve to blame customers for such a failure, e.g. because they could have an aftermarket exhaust? This is clearly manufacturing/design defect and should be addressed via a recall or at least extended warranty??? After this fiasco and my terrible experiences with many Subaru dealers I am actively TALKING OUT everyone from buying Subaru (already have few scores). I love these cars but I do not think you and your dealers are doing right job when it comes to customer service. Picture below (tons of them on the board, btw): |

let me look into it.. in the meantime, you know, our long-term reliability figures are up there with the best... I guess you are sending these people you have talked out of buying Subarus to brands with perfect reliability?

I am generally not unhappy with SOA, when I dealt about my cases directly with the company, but the dealers? Worst nightmare one can imagine (there are exceptions, but definitely not the norm). Anyway, I am very disappointed that for nearly two years the oil pickup tube failures have been surfacing, nothing has been done by SOA. These aren't isolated cases. There have been easily 50 cases on nasioc and legacygt, and likely several times more unreported. Yet - no TSB. No nothing. And it's downright criminal that people get warranty coverage denied with this type of failure. We talk about a catastrophic failure that kills engine within seconds and potentially can cause accident and kill inexperienced and/or unlucky driver if the engine seizes. This is not some "quirk", but essentially the worst failure that can happen to a car's powertrain. There is simply no excuse for this type of a failure. One or two - ok, freak issues happen. Any more failures with such a fundamental and a simple part are not acceptable. I ask for an action and ask everybody who suffered from it to report it to NHTSA so they force you to take an action if you do not do anything voluntarily. If you wish, I can link you several threads about it here, at iwsti.com and legacygt.com. Last edited by unclemat; 06-27-2008 at 03:33 PM. |

No I'm not missing the point. Like I said, I'll look into it. My SECOND point was that all cars have troubles - ours less than most. Name me a brand or model and I'll show you a message board filled with complaints about it. |

Thank you for looking into it. Unfortunately, that doesn't help me get any clearer picture where my car currently is. Is there no way for me to provide a VIN to someone, and have them say, "that car is currently having port options installed, estimated delivery is XXXXX" or something similar? It is somewhat frustrating for me to have waited this long and not know if my car has even been built yet, or if its on a truck headed to my dealership. I understand that SOA and its handlers move an immense amount of vehicles (I'm in the cargo business, I truly can appreciate its challenges), but I feel fairly certain that each vehicle is tracked, maybe not to the extent of a UPS of FedEx package, but at least enough to let me know that the vehicle is on US soil. If this isn't something that SOA is capable of right now, maybe its something that should be looked into as a way of improving the buying experience (I've had almost no buying experience since I placed the order 3 months ago because there has been almost zero flow of information from the dealer to me). Again, I do appreciate you looking into this for me and just want to offer some honest feedback. Thank you.
