Default what mods for a wrx to pull on an sti.

i am going to be purchasing an 02 wrx and my goal is to keep it stock appearing but have enough power to be able to pull a stock sti in a straight line, from any speed. my first planes are a cobb catless turbo back and programe w/up. what else should i start looking at? also with those mods would i benefit from any fuel upgrades, like sti pinks, or a pump? cause i will be doing a vf39 off my buddies sti, or possably a vf22 but it would be a lot more cost efficiant if i could do the fuel system piece by piece.

Turbo upgrade = fuel upgrade.

You should have just bought an STI.

You can hang with cobb stg2 but if both drivers are equal he will beat you. Get a VF turbo then you can pull a stock sti...but again he is stock and u got an upgraded turbo.

I dont know if from any speed. But I pulled on an STi, Im betting it was the driver that couldnt drive We were going about 30, she might have been in second I was still in first. I pulled pretty easy, but again I think it was the girl driver. Not that girls cant drive. We all know subie gal can probably drive circles around us I havee all the basic bolt ons, VF39,Sti injectors and a utec.

I've taken more then a few STi's(modded(stage2) and stock)) at the track.
But from any speed? That's a whole different story. You would need alot more torque.

Just buy an STI, in the long run it will be cheaper.

if you upgrade your motor enough to reliably, every time, pullon an STI, you will be replacing your shortblock within 50,000 miles. Sooner if the tune isnt VERY good.

remember, regardless of the fairy tales you hear from stage 2 owners, they cannot run a 12.9

And an STI can.

Maybe its just me, but if I see an Impreza on the road and want to determine if its modified I look at the exhaust first.

Pull on an STi, I know the shop I used (aerosim) had/has a special for about $2200 was offering a VF34 with fuel upgrades (I think injector and pump) and an Cobb Accessport installed. So add about $2200 plus tax (if you can get as good of a deal)to the cost of your TBE(new is listed a little more than a $1000)+labor and you are looking at around $3200-$3500 after tax and labor.

Sounds like its getting expensive? Well maybe you can cut corners on the tbe. I hear you can actually go stg 2/vf34 with stock catback, you just need a dp. You can probably get a used one of a different brand for $150. Install it yourself or have someone do it (install and heatshield trimming for about $100, CEL fix not neccessary if you reflash). Granted, an AP VF34 map is tuned to their own TBE, you may compromise a little power or efficiency by saving some money.

I don't know the actual results at the strip, but you will be right about level with an STi give or take. Want to really PULL on an STi? Its going to cost more money, and don't forget... when you get to the first turn you are still going to get burned.

To hang with him, you'll have to have 225+ whp and be in the right gear. At higher speeds, STi's have more drag, so it will only get better for you. Problem is, their power bands are bigger than yours, so if your caught a little low in the revs, he'll be all over you. I don't think it takes a turbo though, you'll never have the low end, but you can match his peak power with EM/Exhaust

He said he wants to pull on an STi, correct me if I am wrong but I think that means he wants to be faster.

He started another thread about upgrading a WRX with an STi turbo, injectors and pump in 2.0L forum, but that thread was about beating a Mustang

my main concern is keeping up with jones's. my friend has an 02 gt mustang, and my other friend has a 04 sti and on the freeway they are very close, untill about 110mph and the sti slowly starts to pull...very slowly. they both said that if i get a wrx that i wont ever be able to keep up with them after about 40, unless i start doing internals. so basicly i just need to keep up after 40mph.

STi's have more drag
I'd like to see the info to back this one up. If your talking about the big wing it lowers the DC of an STi, also maybe you forget about the rest of the car. DC isn't the only thing to take into acount when figuring resistance. Drag force need to be taken into effect. Take a look at the underside of both cars (WRX VS STi) and you will see what vehical will have more total drag at higher speeds.

BTW STi's also have way more torque.

So basicaly you need about 300hp and 300 ft/tq.

to pull on an STi, it's going to cost at least $3k for parts and then you're going to need a good tune. If you don't have that kind of money, you're not going to keep up with them.
