Default 2011 STI Rattle Noise

Wsup everyone!

Just joined today cause this site has been very helpful for me during situations where I was fixing my 2011 STI. I thank you all in advance!

Just getting familiar with the forum ethics!

To the point:

I have just recently installed an ACT Xtreme Duty performance street disc clutch kit and Streetlite Flywheel.
Used Motul Gear 300 for fluid.
Did all the work myself with the help of this forum.

Issue:

After driving 15-20 miles my car of course is warmed up. At idle (neutral) I can hear a slight rattle. If I turn on my A/C or turn my wheels left/right slowly the rattle gets louder. Pressing the clutch pedal all the way onto the floor will silence the rattle.

So, I jacked my car up and tried to listen from underneath and it seems like the noise is coming from the transmission side.

Maybe throwout bearing? Never heard one sound like this but maybe some else has.

I have read on the ACT site that with a lighter flywheel and performance clutch that there could be gear rattle.

If this is a gear rattle can anyone confirm? Can I change to a thicker gear oil to dampen the sound. I am using 75w 90 Motul 300. Any other recommendations?

I appreciate any insights you folks have. Please let me know any ideas of what you guys might think it is.

Thanks!

Sounds like a possible exhaust leak to me. If you have access to a smoke machine, jam it up your tailpipe & see if you've got leakage. I used a cheapo Halloween smoke machine to track down a couple leaks in my exhaust.

you dont need a smoke machine to find an exhaust leak. would it make it easy? yes. But all you need to do is jack up the car, with it running either use your hand or a piece of paper and run along the seams to either feel for (or in the case of the paper look for) the exhaust leaking

Did you ever get the cause of the rattle nailed down??
I hear what others might say is an exhaust leak but i also hear the rattle you're referring to.
I have the same rattle in my 08 Sti.
Same symptoms too with the A/C causing it to increase and it getting louder the longer the car drives. Pushing the clutch pedal down silences it completely.
I can also leave my foot off the clutch and quiet it down by pushing the shifter forward and taking the slack out of the shifter linkage. (which makes me think its inside the transmission)

I just put in Amsoil severe gear 75W-110 over the weekend and it muffled the noise a fair amount.
I also just installed a new ACT HD street clutch but just had my OEM flywheel resurfaced.

Would love to know if this is just a symptom of Group N engine and tranny mounts + short throw & stiffer shifter bushings.

FWIW i stopped by Subaru and the shop foreman said to just monitor it and drive it
