Default Will a 99impreza L trans mate up with 02-06 wrx engines?

I searched for this and didnt pull up any info maybe my wording is bad.

I beleive it will mate up no problem with it, i just want to be sure before i go ahead and start the swap train rolling. I dont plan of launching ever or downshifting rough on it all.

the motor will probally be stock for the most part(exhaust, intake, and thats probally it untill i get a better tranny)

Would the L transmission hold the power for daily driving with a good clutch setup reliably?

sorry if this has been answered a thousand time just checking my p's and q's

From what I understand the L's transmission is almost structurally identical to the rs transmission minus the gear ratios, and I've heard of plenty people running RS transmission for a ton of miles. I think Zephyr has over 200,000 on his, just don't drive like a tool and you should be fine. I'm not sure if the L gearing is optimal for the power band of the 205 though.

How much would the gearing effect the performance? eventually i would like to get 6 speed setup in but im a upgrade after it breaks sort of guy.

I am also in the Huntsville area and looking to do put a 02-06 WRX engine in my 99 Impreza. Is it implied that the new engine your looking at includes a turbo? I was wanting to add a turbo to whatever I end up doing, but saw your question about the transmission holding up to the power so I didn't know. Are you buying the motor brand new? Lots of questions, I know. I am still in the planning stages..

i dont think you have too much to worry about. the gear ratios arent that far off from the year model WRX you are talking about. Your 1-4th gear are just slightly longer than the wrx. The gearing is actually almost identical to an older JDM WRX. get an STI 6MT soon. it is soooo good.

The L tranny has a smaller input shaft. Stock power should be OK.

It will mate up, i literally pulled out an 03 wrx motor off my L tranny and just put in a 257 block. No fitment problem.

yes this will be mostly my dd, maybe with an occasional autoX day, never drag though, so that info is very much appreciated. Gives me some good ideas on the transmission i would like to eventually get for a good dd and occasional track day. A usdm 07+ sti 6spd looks like it would fit my needs spot on.

thanks for the great read.
