In the interest of science I filled up shortly after reaching 1/2 tank today and I put in 8 gallons. So the first 1/2 is 1.5 gallons larger

I made the same observation Thursday afternoon. My last couple of fill ups have been up to the first click off. On the way to the station, the gas gauge had just dropped down to read exactly half tank. When the pump stopped at the first clicked off, it took 7.825 gallons. I was thinking I could have put in almost 9 gallons if I topped it off.

You guys know that you're not supposed to "top off" the tank on a gas car (that is, keep adding gas up to the top of the filler neck), right? Doing so can cause emissions system damage.

Yes, which is why when it clicks I always make sure it it really at the proper shutoff by hitting it again, usually it .05- .1 extra. So far it has been really consistent so I will probably stop doing that.

Yes, I know. I was just talking hypothetically. I used to have a method to my madness by stopping the pump on the next .12 cent after click off, since it's my 2012 car. I did my others cars this way too for tracking purposes.

I always go up to the next full dollar wherever it first clicks off. Not enough to do any damage and it helps with my only OCD quirk I really have haha!

Well, I just traded one OCD for another. I stopped adding extra to get to $xx.12 because it throws off the mpg's I'm keeping track off on fuelly.com now.

Today I did 50 miles and showed 28.8mpg. First 1k miles in my new subie 27mpg. Not bad for a 2.5 turbo awd motor.

So far I calculate my mileage at 32.4 mpg avg. with some stop and go and steady low speed driving due to dense traffic. Have also noticed the "automatic -0.3 mpg avg. deduction" in the display when starting the engine cold. Happens just about every time.

Im at about 2800 miles and am averaging 26.2 over last three fillups. A little discouraging as 3/4 of my driving is highway and I keep it about 65-68 mph. I know its supposed to get better as car breaks in but I thought I should be there already?

That's pretty typical. It doesn't do very well compared to its "EPA" estimate, vs. others in that range.

Bought my Impreza Sport in late July. I have the factory cross bars and have bikes and surfboards on top when needed. Driving an ave of 30 mph in NH I was getting close to 33mpg with a high of 34 one tank. This winter I'm only averaging 30 mpg. i have an average of 31.5 mpg over 7,000 miles of driving.

Again in the interest of science I filled up this time at 1/4 left, it took 10.6 gallons, which is 3.6 per 1/4 for a total if 14.4. Pretty dang close if you ask me.

To summarize.
My filll at 1/4 was 3.7 gallons
1/2 was 8
3/4 10.6

Also today was 27.6 mpg, car indicated 27.9, so my adjustment of -3% I had the dealer perform combined with my odometer error of 2.9% is spot on

^^^ please bear with the questions, how does the car's MPG calculator/display get adjusted again, and did the dealer charge you for it?

Yes, they hook it up to their computer and adjust it.

There is a sequence you can follow to change it yourself. I forget what it is, but ive seen it on the forum before.

You need the Subaru computer to adjust, there is no sequence of buttons you can press

My MPG have been pretty terrible the past couple of weeks, not sure if its due to the TSB or what I got applied last week. I think I'm averaging 26-27 mpg. What's also weird now too is that my "full tank" is only around 390-400 miles to empty, whereas it used to be 440-450. Same station, same pump as well.
