04 tailights
I don't know if anyone else has done this swap, but there is no comparison between the look of the 2003 tail lights and the 2004. I just installed a set of 2004's on my Sonic '03. $360 bucks new from local Sube dealer. Minor trimming with a Dremel on the '03 bumper cover. I think it's a great enhancement.

I did it on my 02 SRP WRX
it looks way better than 02 stock I didn't cut the bumper so there's a little gap on the bottom but it's not that visible so it's fine with me. here's the link: http://www.pbase.com/bongta029/red_wrx |

I've bought it in Java Black to bring out the trim on the car. I also painted the STI scoop the same color and added a flatting agent as not to reflect the sunlight. I wanted it a little diffferent. |

Can you say which tool of the dremel did you use? How did you get the paint from "baking"?

I used a small round carbide bit with a med cut. I put masking tape on the bumper cover.. put the new tail light up to
where it bolts in, and traced the two areas where I needed to trim. One area is the one under the round portion of the light and the other is on the lower outside corner. You can't miss it. Take a little off at a time and keep checking your work. |

ljaviation or subimp6u08, would it have been possible to dremel the lights instead of the bumper? I'm guessing not though.
Oh, anyone have a pic of the lights at night in parking light mode and braking mode? |

If you dremel the lights they won't be water tight anymore and you will get condensation on the inside. Better to trim the bumper trim.

Dremeling the lights? sounds great.. won't leak as long as you use exposy on that.. spread that over a layer of fiberglass, then get some red tail light paint and paint that shiznat

subimp6u08 didn't have to trim anything, it bolts up nicely.

I was just curious, on my 03 if I were to just buy a pair of 04 taillights and an 04 back bumper body kit, or oem 04 rear bumper, would it fit right on? the would everything line up for the tailight and rear bumper conversion?

guys i think he meant dremel the bumper piece, not the light, so condensation and water leaks are irrelevant

that would be a duh. no flame intended
as a new bumper cover is likly more then a 02 at $220 so 04 is even more. |

Really nice job with the Dremel. Looks good.
On a related note... am I the only person who actually likes the 02-03 lights better? Sergi |
