Am I reading this right...

For ST classes, people who have removed their a/c must stick it back in?

For comment, all ST replacement cats must have an EPA sticker. Doesn't that mean that all out aftermarket downpipes etc in STX/STU are illegal?

Hopefully I'm just a moron and I read that all wrong!

I just sent this to Doug Gill..

Quote:
Hello Doug...

I was just reading with interest the new July Fastrack and suggest a change to the wording of the STS Cat/Con proposal. I suggest the below becuase there will be protests if this rule as suggested in the FasTrack retains the current wording when protestors interpret "same location" as "within .00001 of an inch". 'Same' is too ambiguous and doesn't serve to define anything.

I would like to see "4) be used in the same location(s) as the OE converter(s)." reworded to "4) be used in the same location(s) as the OE converter(s) with the opening of the replacement converter +/- one (1) inch of original OE opening location."

Giving competitors a little leeway to be 'close' I beleive will be in the best interest in the class and will minimize (not eliminate) protests. There will still be people that will say that's MORE (or less) than 1 inch of stock... but being realistic, giving a little flexibility will prevent those that will throw paper at the slightest variance, while giving competitiors a way to act in good faith to be "close".

Notice I'm not asking to use 'approximate' as anyone can torture that and say the end of the tail pipe is still 'approximate'.

Thanks,
Keith Casey
Remember, this is just STS.

So when do these changes take affect? Or are they just suggestions at this point? I guess I'm not fully sure what the Fastrack is...

Just STS/STS2. (14.10E) The STX rule is 14.12.6

Didn't we do that already? It was out for member comment, we commented and now they want to enforce it.

Based on member feedback, the following previously published rule change proposal has been recommended by the SEB
and is being sent to the BOD for final approval:
Remove 14.1.B, the allowance for removal of non-optional A/C components.
Seems to me it's (nearly) a done deal now. It sounds like it's been approved by the SEB and is just awaiting the BOD approval. The best time to write would have been 4 months ago, when they proposed it.

Wow, talk about being blindsided by the MCS GS->DS proposal! After all these years, why do it now?

Also of interest for this forum is that they clarified the 2.5RS/i listing for GS.

Are they moving all MCS to DS or only the variants? The way it reads to me, it seems like just the variants...

The 2.5RS/2.5i clarification is definitely of interest to this forum.

Doh, I missed that. Then you need to write to the BOD and let them know that it's not in the categories best interest. Soo... march until... last month they had the window open for comments... a whole.. 2 months? I wonder what the common turn around time is on things like that and why do I have the funny suspiscion that this was truly 'fastracked' to be pushed through.

Apparently, on the A/C issue, I hear the SEB made the decision on their own without input from the STAC. The only chance to override that is a deluge of letters to the SCCA Board of Directors: BOD.

From the April FasTrack
Quote:
The STAC is seeking member input regarding Street Touring rule 14.1.B, which allows removal of non-optional (i.e. standard equipment) air conditioning (AC) where no AC-delete option exists from the manufacturer. Presently AC removal is allowed in all ST classes for all cars and has been an allowance since the category was originally established.
If they decided to push it forward without an STAC recommendation either way.. they have broken procedure. It was supposed to be from the STACs recommendation as worded. If they just went ahead and did it, I'm going to propose to the BOD that those that were at the SEB meeting in Houston be excused from their position.

I have an email in to one of the STAC committee members.

Well, the only Mini in GS is the regular Cooper S. I assume by 'variants' they meant both 02-06 & 07+.

Jason Isley says the effective date for the a/c rule will be 1-1-2009.

Well, they moved the GP variant into DS.... so I hope the rest aren't in there as well.....

Isn't the GP, like, 34k and they made, like, 7 of them?

That is a proposal just like the other ones. None are set in stone yet so write your letters if you have opinions.

Too late. The request for member comment was a couple of months ago, and I sent my letter in. <shrug> Start rounding up your AC pieces if your car wasn't available without it.

I guess the WRX really is going to ESP

...or maybe I should get an SRT-4 for DSP lol I don't think moving it there is a good idea at all. I guess at least the BMWs would have competition, but that's a really fast car for that class. And then you could start putting SRT motors in first gen cars and creating a hella fast car if they are put on the same line....
