Default Exhaust Question..

So I'm thinking of getting a Catback exhaust for my 05 STI. I want the HKS 3" Hi-Power Catback system, anyways I was wondering after I get this installed do I need to do anything to the ECU? Is it recommended to get it tuned after getting an exhaust system? Thanks in advance.

Catback exhuast do not require a tune.
If the car is to stay mostly stock I still recommend a Stage I OS tune just for greatly improved driveability.

are you just getting it for the cool sound or do you want to look at actual power gaining modifications in the future?

if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Well, I want both actually, sound and power gain, would a turboback maybe be a better choice?

It would, but you may want to look into Engine Managment for that.

+1234 for stickies, they really help a lot, especially the unabombers.....

Catback you will feel a little gain, well at least in my 04 WRX I did when I changed from stock catback to aftermarket. After installing the catback, I suggest doing an ECU reset.

Procedures are disconnect the battery, then press the brake to bleed any charge left on the car, wait 30 seconds and hook the battery back up and you are good to go.

For a catback, no tune is required.

If you go with a full turboback, it would be a great idea to look into some engine management like an accessport or similar.

get a full TBE and OS tune. you can find that exhaust used for under $600 in the classifieds and a tune will run from $300-$600
