I measured when installing my rack

Anyway, on to measurements - these mounts have 2 holes. The pic will help,, but here are the measurements I took. All measurements that say windshield are from the glass, and I measured to the center of the holes.

Windshield to first hole: 11 7/8"
Windshield to second hole: 13 1/8"
2 center holes: 26 5/8"
Rear hole to rear window 15 5/8"

From these, the math can be done to get all of the measurements

Thanks for the measurements. my back mount point is just under 15" from the back window, I don't think the OEM with flaps will work for me unless those flaps have an 1" of give...

This will be my next project on my car (2015 STI). Will Krazy’s brackets fit this and anyone want to help me do this in SoCal?

Krazy's are pretty basic (well made, but basic) and they will work for the STI. Enjoy the project. I'm pretty new to these types of things and as long as you take your time it's not a bad project. 3M marine sealant is awesome - use that to seal up the drill holes and you should have no worries.

Stopped by the dealership today so I’ve got the part number for the brackets. I’ll add them later.

Just ordered all the OEM parts. Will be attempting to retrofit my 2015 w 2018 brackets and roof rack in a couple weeks. Wish me luck.

Anyone else notice that the OEM roof rack says it’s only rated for 88 lbs? That’s the lowest I’ve ever seen.

So, here is what I found out about 2015-2018 WRX from phone calls to Subaru of America, Thule, and Yakima.

Subaru says roof is rated to 88 lbs. I don’t know whether they are just using info from 2018 OEM Roof Rack but either way, that’s what they said. I had to call them because I couldn’t find the info in the owners manual.

Thule said their system is limited to 88 lbs and the limiting factor is the roof attachment points, their bars can handle 165 lbs or even more.

Yakima says they have tested their rack on 2018 WRX and it safe up to 165 lbs.

Finally retrofitted my 2015 w an OEM (Thule) roof rack from 2018. Did rain gutters and all. Rear was slightly off but it all still worked fine.

Thanks to OP and others that contributed for the write up. Never would have attempted this without it. The headliner and pillars were a PITA. Drilling was surprisingly easy.

How did you remove the roof trim? Want to look to see if my ‘17 has them as well, but don’t want to break anything in the process ***129318;****9794;***65039;

You can pull it up just enough to peek under, but from what I remember they pretty much snap off and on.

I used a plastic prying tool, started from front windshield side. Just wedge it in a little, and pry it open. Comes right off.

Default Bracket looks slightly different

It looks great! Nice job.
I noticed the the brackets on the car are different than that of the Krazy brackets. Does the OEM bracket utilize 2 bolts to attach to the rack. Are the spacing of the holes for attaching to the roof the same spacing as Krazy's. Just wondering if I go down one route, will I be able to switch in the future.

The OEM brackets use two bolts to attach to the roof. The brackets have 2 holes each but the OEM roof rack only attaches using one bolt per footing. It uses the rear hole in the front brackets and the forward hole in the rear bracket.

If you put the rain gutters w flaps on, you can determine where to put the brackets. I measured instead instead of putting the rain gutters on to determine the mounting point and my rears are just slightly off. When you flip the flap up, the hole in the plastic curves around the bolt, so if it’s not perfect, it’s a little bit of a PITA.

Also, the foot pads on the OEM roof rack seem pretty minimal and the ones everyone else installed seem beefier. If you look closely at my pic, a small part of it is on the frame over the rail and the rest is on the rain gutter area. I’m not surprised they say it’s only for up to 88 lbs. but Subaru says that’s the roof load limit... Even my clamp ons had a bigger footprint.

Was there anything that you had to replace? Double sided 3M tape anywhere? Any sections that we should be cautious of?

The first post shows everything you need to know. Start from the front and work your way toward the back. You can put painters tape to protect the paint. Check out how to get the clips out of the roof molding in the first post too. Don’t try to pry them out, you’ll damage the molding. Use the tabs to release them once the molding is off the roof.

Skeeter, where did you order the OEM brackets and 18+ gutter covers from? Want to do the same thing to keep it as factory as possible.

Looks great, btw!

You can order from parts.subaruonlineparts.com. Here’s the parts list. $423.20 plus $40 shipping and that includes crossbars.

If you order from https://www.generalmotorspartsonline.com instead you can get it about $50 cheaper.

$373.86 + $36.36 shipping = $410.22 total price.
