It took less than 2 weeks for my relay to thoroughly corrode (connection prongs and internals) and the relay failed. I bought a new relay and a buddy of mine helped me take out the harness, cut it apart, and rewire a new one so that the relay is mounted in the engine bay behind the fuse box. Luckily the harness was not a complete waste of money because most of the wiring was salvageable. Hopefully the new relay will not corrode in that location. Just a heads up for all those installing hellas in snowy areas. Btw, your car looks great and enjoy the horns!
Can you take a picture of where you mounted it? I am thinking about moving my relay to reduce the wear and tear on it.

This is why I first bubble-wrapped the relay/harness assembly before installing it (not that I have to worry about too much weather here in SoCal).

Pics as requested!

There are two threaded holes on the sheet metal which is the strut tower that were plugged up with plastic inserts. I removed the bottom insert and used that threaded hole to mount the relay. You can easily see the power and ground leads to the battery. (much closer and efficient now)

Close up of the relay:

And the routing of the horn signal wire and power to the horns through the engine bay and through the spacing between the headlight and grill area:

Final product (pic taken at an earlier date with lack of salt):

I simply grounded the 2 with an wire ring terminal to a ground point behind the hella mounting bracket. End thread hijack.

^^^^ I can draw up a schematic for the wire harness that Jovver and I made if anyone wants to relocate their relay to that spot in the engine bay.

Hmm that is a good idea. I'm going to have to remove my horns soon because I'm having trouble w/ my power window going up and down so I'll have to remove my horns before taking it into the dealer. Good chance to clean up my wiring and relocate the relay.

Ok so here is a real quick diagram I drew up... Please excuse my drawing skills, I'm and engineer, not an artist. EDIT: I redrew the diagram to make it neater. Also, USE THIS DIAGRAM AT YOUR OWN RISK... I'M NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR/WARRANTY/ HOUSE/PETS/EAR DRUMS ETC.

Note - In Jovver's install we did not put a fuse in the power wire... we really should have. The Subimods harness doesn't have one ether . Please include one in your install. All my connections were soldered and covered in heat shrink. Good crimp connections would probably be fine too.

I took a look at my 2011 and you won't be able to mount the relay in the same spot as Jovver since our fuse box is pushed right up against the shock tower. There are a few open tapped holes near the battery in the engine bay that might work for a relay though.

This one is tucked under the fuel lines and is pretty hard to access but there are 2 open holes here and someone with small enough hands might be able to hide the horn relay back there. That would probably be my last choice for a relay location.

There are 2 holes on the frame rail in front of the battery that work great and keep overall harness length down.

and a close up

I could see putting a relay here if it doesn't see much exposure to the elements. My car has 50 miles on it so I can't tell yet if this area will get dirty through driving.

Finally, the easiest thing would be to double stick tape it to the outside of the battery box... Tons of room and easy access.

For those who are looking for options where to put the relay using the original harness, this is where I put mine:

I used the thin metal brackets that came with the Supertones to bolt the relay onto the center chassis pillar along with the bracket that holds the horns. It obviously doesn't protect the relay from the elements as well as putting it far inside the engine bay, but if you live in an area that doesn't have too much weather (like me in SoCal), it'll serve.

you obviously do not understand the point of the relay. please don't speak about electronics again until you have AT LEAST a basic understanding.

you loose almost 2 volts by the time it gets to the horns, so yea, it will be louder with a relay setup.

I wanted to bring this thread up again as I tried to install my supertones without removing the bumper like OP did.

Maybe my arms are too thick or hands too fat, but I found it 100x more difficult to try this method versus taking off the bumper. Even wioth the Subimods bracket and harness, I found it impossible to fit it on without taking out the OEM meep-meep horn which itself was impossible for me to take off without removing the bumper first.

I personally suggest everyone save themselves the trouble of using OP's method and instead just use the iwsti how-to-guide on removing the bumper and do the supertone install with the open space. Also it allowed me to much more safely ziptie the harnesses where I can see clearly where it won't freely dangle and come loose in the elements. Removing and reinstalling the bumper was quite easy, much easier than trying to do everything through the lower air-dam.

Yeah it's a little tricky to do. I just didn't want to take my entire bumper off. Can you link us to the bumper removal guide?

I know what you mean man, I REALLY didn't want to take it off. That's why after searching I found your thread and thought it'd be a piece of cake.

Unfortunately for me, and I speak for myself only, it was just way too difficult with it on.

I used this guide:

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-inst...r-removal.html

- and looked at it on my smartphone as I was taking off the pieces. Thankfully everything was snap off and snap on, and was much more intimidating sounding and looking than it really was.

What'd I'd be curious to know is how you managed to take off the OEM horn? That Submiods bracket did not fit under the latch where the bolt goes in without taking that little bastard off.

Oh cool awesome. That will come in hand. Yeah I had to take off the oem horn before I could put on the bracket. That was a little challenging.

A day of driving in Southern California? Yeah it's quite necessary. Not to spite the other driver, but to honestly prevent a catastrophe that will protect both me and the other driver as well as saving both of our wallets.

SoCal is filled with very absent minded drivers, just from the sheer number of drivers that are here. You're just statistically bound to come across a moron one way or another.

To be fair, I can't say I'm 100% innocent from making mistakes either. A preemptive warning honk to me has humbly saved me from being in a minor accident here and there as well.

Just put mine on this morning. I fabricated a bracket similar to the subimods to keep the even spacing and used the harness. I wish they had built the harness closer to the battery connection as I don't like having the relay so open to the elements. I did wrap the relay in a plastic bag and seal it up in hopes water will not get to it. I also recommend some electrical grease on all connections. Also went with the bumper removal from Iwsti and recommend it. Easy and loads of access. I did notice on my 2011 there is not a baffle on the CAI like there was on the IWSti bumper removal guide. It took me a bit longer than planned but happy with the result. Great help from the online posts. Thanks.
