I've known several women that have said they would prefer these cars as convertibles. I don't see why they can't be offered for those that want them for that purpose. If it doesn't cost too much to make that variant, then more power (and sales) to them.

That's not a bad thing at all. Women buy 51% of all new cars in the US, and have strong input into 80% of new car purchases.

So what I'm getting from this thread is that people want more power even though they're already complaining about the $28k price tag. So what happens if Subaru/Toyota deliver on more power at a higher price tag? Complain about it needing better interior materials? Better wheels and tires? More room? Bigger brakes?

Well said

$26882(for a limited) now that the BRZ is included in the VIP pricing. I'm surprised SoA hasn't made a sight and sound package(as they do with the Legacy and Forester) for the Limited to include the push start/HID/ and premium sound.

Probably MY2014 since that's when they'll be implementing their Starlink system full-force.

Watch out for the SOA hammer. Shouldn't be copying and posting that info..

Interesting on that. I remember before it was released, they said the BRZ was going to introduce Aha(Starlink, I guess). Something must've not been right.

You know that info is available on the internet, right?

http://www.edmunds.com/subaru/brz/20...html?sub=coupe

http://www.truecar.com/prices-new/subaru/brz-pricing/

I know you are a car salesman and touting the company line, but this info is easily found.

I also think that pdf was posted on ft86club back last year.

I haven't been paying that close of attention, but are the same people who think the car could benefit from more power the same ones who think the price is too high?

I think the few who are, are probably just complaining cause it's what they think is fun to do on the internet, and they wouldn't buy the car anyway.

Most reasonable people would expect to pay more when they get more.

It's not hard or particularly expensive to get power out of engines these days. Charging that much money for something that wouldn't be impressive in 2002 is retarded. I guess that's what you get when you put Subaru's inept engineers in charge of the powertrain.

It doesn't even get particularly good gas mileage either. It's the worst of both worlds. Why they didn't do the same treatment with the 2.5L so they could have ~250HP and usable torque is beyond me.

Offhand, I can think of only one NA 4-cyl engine that made more power in 2002. The F20, which is still regarded as about the pinnacle of stock NA performance 4-cyls. Other than that, you have the K20A2, which made 200hp on the old SAE scale. The BRZ engine would probably be closer to 210hp on that scale. Then, you just have a handful of other JDM Hondas which never came here (DC2/DC5/EP3 Type-Rs, and I think the Prelude Type-S). I might be missing an engine or two, maybe some European hot hatch I've never heard of, but that about covers it.

Regardless, your statement is still pretty false, as even today only a handful of NA 4-cyls make that kind of power, mostly in either sport compacts or low-end luxury cars. The BRZ engine isn't beastly by any means, but you're being a bit disingenuous.

I think it's more or less the info on how much the holdback and mkt ast. is. Knowing it's $1k a car, if a dealer is really desparate to get rid of a car, a discerning buyer can use that as leverage. Example, take invoice and subtract Holdback, mkt asst, and floor plan, and that's between $1100 and $1350 depending on car that the buyer/dealer has to negotiate with shoudl they choose to.

At that, there's a $75 gas allowance per car, that usually only has a 1/4 tank or less... "We fill it up for you". If the car only takes $50 to fill... They're still making $$ off ya.

What would be cool is if one could really order a "Base Package".

Yeah, I was hoping for less stroke to gain a few more revs. Maybe a 2.3 or 2.4 liter which could spin to say, 8k.

That would have been a fun little mill. 230-240 HP range.

But alas, think of the mileage that thing would get.

one thing to consider, with CAFE being what it is, companies are eager to add 30 mpg+ "rated" vehicles to the lineup to bring up their average.

Not sure how the 2.5, or some version of it would have affected that necessay evil.

I'd gladly pay $32k for a BRZ with a next-gen 3.0 DI H6 (N/A) making ~280hp with a comparable weight balance (battery in the trunk?)

Sky, a lot of the leadfoots on NASIOC are claiming an average higher than the EPA rating... so I'd say fuel mileage is very good for a car of this type.. particularly one with 4.1:1 gears. My MCS does better, but it's a 1.6L and weighs 200lbs less.

trolling, I hope.

just on the offhand you aren't...

getting higher horsepower out of an engine is achievable 2 ways, increase the torque, or increase the RPM.

The FA20 makes 151 peak torque. the engine size is 2.0 liters.

you should go out and do a search on the interwebs to see what motors made higher torque per liter (you can probably learn some things about something called MEP at the same time). Once you've done that, you'll see how outlandish your statement is. it's not that it isn't possible for Subaru to increase the torque on this engine, it's just that it isn't likely to happen without spending a lot more money in engineering and manufacturing and customers wouldn't want to pay those costs. the same goes for raising the rev limiter.

leave the FA20 for the FRS.

add FB25 for the base BRZ, lower the price (~21-23k)
add FA20 DIT motor for the turbo BRZ, plus brake/suspension upgrades to match, (~30-32k)

willing to bet, that an FB25 with its lower output and more torque would yield better gas mileage and still be fun. compare 151lbs torque @ 6400rpm vs 170lbs torque @ 4000rpm. would also match up better with the auto with the extra torque. auto and manual for the fb25 and manual only for the fa20 dit, although i've read that the auto tranny is pretty decent.

I'm pretty sure the people in the "runaway" Prii were going a lot faster than you can read modern day English. It doesn't matter how fast it gets up to 60 MPH. It does matter how fast it is going at a certain point in time.

You can ask their accelerator pedals and power buttons.
