The beautiful thing about SoCal is we’re only a couple hours away from the snow (Big Bear) and we’ve also got the beach to enjoy as well.

Mud flaps, flapping in traffic, is again - hilarious and cringeworthy at the same time.

For those who have them, enjoy them. For those thinking about getting them, make better choices.
A 2018 Type RA owner lecturing others about stupid financial decisions.

Nice tidbit about being close to Big Bear justifying AWD in SoCal though. Those five days a year really make it worth it!

Stupid financial decisions, because I own an RA? I also owned an ***8216;07 STi until this year too - have a comment on that too? You must have mud flaps. Ricer confirmed.

For those who snowboard a bit, I'm sure it's a logical reason for them. I honestly couldn't care less, about you as well.

So you ran Toyo R888Rs on your RA, which is your daily and you only have 7.1 miles on the dial? Lucy, you have got some splainin to do.

Justifying buying an AWD vehicle because you are only hours away from Big Bear? You must be an iPreg user.

Read my last posts, I sold my ‘07 STi that I ran R888s and than R888Rs (when they became available). Yes, my RA has 7.1 miles.

Also, my comment about Big Bear has nothing to do with me, I’ve only been there twice lol, just have bumped into STi owners, who pointed out their use for AWD. AWD is fun regardless of the “need” to justify having it. Mud flaps, that’s just cheap “mods” for immature ricers.

With that said, I can certainly understand where you are coming from with this. It is just as idiotic as someone from SoCal buying an AWD street car to go AutoX or Time Attack. Those people would be much better served with a light weight RWD or mid-engine vehicle should they have the need to live out their infantile fantasy of being a "racer".

To add, 90+% of the people in SoCal with AWD vehicles will never find themselves in any sort of situation that will need AWD.

Bottom line, live and let live.
So, you are one that believes AWD is only beneficial in inclement conditions? Must be "new" to Subaru. Drive a car that is 2WD and then drive that same car with AWD and even on good grip dry pavement, you can tell the difference in the drive.

That's not to counter any of your comments about the autocrossing....

How are mudflaps a ricer mod? They're not a cosmetic enhancement, they serve a purpose against rock chips. Does that mean trucks with mudflaps are ricers too?

Your opinion sucks and you should feel bad.

A truck is not a Subaru, especially a performance Subaru. If you’re taking your “whip” off the beaten path - sure, that would make perfect sense; however if you’re some flat billed, vaping, herrrrafrush, brotard driving a slammed Subaru and dragging flaps all over in traffic - then you’d fall into the ricer category.

My opinion “sucks” because it doesn’t fit the Nasioc ricer mentality; no, these aren’t exotics (just econoboxes right?) but it wouldn’t kill some of these idiots to not make their cars look like $1.00 hot wheels.

Enjoy your mud flaps bruh.

Most of these lifted trucks around me with big a/t tires don't even run mudflaps, and they just go around flinging **** up at people's cars. Mudflaps should be REQUIRED for trucks imo

For one thing, any new car is a stupid financial decision as they shed value faster than Bernie Sanders can come up with new entitlement ideas.

And your statement about a justification to have an 'amenity' not being legitimate basically applies to every car on the road and every performance aspect they market them for.
Ever watch an SUV or truck commercial? They show them barreling through canyons, traversing shallow riverbeds and having 60 ton excavators dump massive loads of stone in the beds from 15 feet in the air.

In reality 99% of the owners of those push the limit of their operation when they use the remote start to run the AC on a hot day so they don't have to be uncomfortable for even 5 minutes when first getting in.

That reminds me of the intro to Savageese's Type RA review... priceless.

It's one of the best STI reviews that I've seen. He does a good job explaining why the STI is still relevant despite being slower around track than its competitors. There's more to driving a sports car than performance stats and lap times.

That is all. Let the ricer mudflaps and AWD bickering continue..

You’re choosing to take 1 mod and place everyone that has them into a category with “flat billed, vaping, hellaflushers.” My car was a track whore that rarely saw the street. Before the flaps I had rubber, tar and rock chip issues, afterwards I didn’t.

You think mudflaps are dumb, I think buying an RA is dumb. To each their own

I'll admit when I think of various 'track mods' one thing that does NOT come to mind is mud flaps.

Even a gigantic wing is justifiable for track use as silly as some look on the street.

When you see a lot of people with said mod that act and look quite similar - the shoe fits.

That's great, I see plenty of track cars without flaps, all the way up to through the highest forms of racing (obviously excluding rally).

Running them on the street makes these cars look cheap-er.

You're welcome to think buying an RA is dumb, doesn't change my stance (look what I did there ) on mud flaps.

I can't believe how bent out of shape people have become over "my" view on mudflaps. If you like them, buy and run them. I'm not going to appear from behind a bush and ask you to stop being a ricer.

An alternative to mud flaps is clear bra, yes, it's come down quite a bit in price, and your paint would be even safer.

I watched that review and thoroughly enjoyed it. The RA will always have a crowd that loathes it and I, for that reason, love it.

Living where it snows and where DOT puts down sand to combat ice, mudflaps are 100% functional.

Do all the other people driving in the snow run rally armor mud flaps too?

I'm just baffled that many cars/trucks can get through snow, racing and day to day life without them, but Subaru people vigorously defend the need for them.

... hmm, let me go grab my flat billed hat, vape and drift kart - I need to get to the bottom of this.

I'm kidding everyone, just laugh.

Oh I don't care what anyone says or thinks about my car. I like them, and they do help keep sand down from kicking back. it doesn't 100% solve the issue, but most trucks here have them.

Its required by Colorado DOT to have mudflaps on semis.

Frankly, mudflaps do have a bit of a function. I wouldn't call it a vital function, but at least they do serve a purpose. I don't like them, but I also don't hate them (unless they are red).

Big truck with A/T tires, lifted and stuff require flaps; those A/T tires can definitely log pretty big gravel particles which become bullets to trailing cars...... but a dropped WRX on summer performance tires doesn't really need em.... yeah you might like them, but the whole justification that they serve a purpose is sort of a not really thing.

About the RA. I like it. I think carbon roof, limited wheels and when you consider the time it came out, then the strengthened pistons and whatever else it came with are not bad. Should be a fun car. If you can and want to afford it... why not?
People easily drop $8k for a wrap, some stanced out wheels and air suspension.... why not on a limited edition car with some pretty cool features?

I will say I totally understand the frustration. Buying used is such a gamble, but hey you got a new car out of it, and this is where everyone chimes in, "stop bitchin, blah blah" New cars should have a very low amount of common problems...for normal cars. Our cars, for the prices people pay for them new, should be absolutely perfect, maybe the occasional hiccup. Especially when Subaru couldn't even perfect and engine they used for 2 decades. I'd be a bit irritated. I bought mine used and Im irritated but I roll with the punches, hopefully when the engine pops Subaru doesn't give me any gripe about the warranty.

Too many people are afraid to admit they have a mods that is all for looks that they like (Ricer mod). lol

I have yellow fogs on my WRX. I got them because I like the look, not for any function reason. Hell, I usually don't even have them on because those lights are a pain in the ass to replace when they burn out. Ricer mod? sure. Do I care? nope. I like the way it looks.
