![]() Hi all,
I'm currently looking to add one more Subaru to my family. It's going to be Outback or Crosstrek 2019/2020. However, I can't afford any of those vehicles ![]() I've recently been possed by a crazy idea to do a swap. I can buy a high mileage Subaru with the body in a good shape. Then buy the same wrecked Subaru MY2019/20 and swap everything into the old car: engine, transmission, suspension, and even interior. The easiest swap would be WRX. MY14 to MY20 is virtually the same vehicle with minor differences in options. However, I found that to find high mileage WRX is unreal to find. I spotted a few of them on kijiji.ca (I'm from Canada) with over 200k km (~125k miles) but they are still too expensive for my budget. The next option is Crosstrek MY13 to Crosstrek MY20 or Impreza MY12 to Crosstrek MY20. Imprezas are dirty cheap and available in "200k miles +" versions ![]() One more way is Outback 2011 2.5i to 2019 3.6R. Tons of Outbacks 2011 to 2013 are available at affordable prices. This is probably the most desirable conversion on my list and I'd like to talk about it a little bit more. What is the chance to make a powertrain, suspension and interior swap without using a welder? How unified are bodies of 2.5 and 3.6 versions in terms of mounting points? Is there a chance to replace the front exterior to make the old body to look like MY2015+ cars easily by just swapping parts from one vehicle to another? If 2.5 to 3.6 conversion is not possible, will I face issues with 2.5 to 2.5 one? Technically, engines and transmissions were not drastically updated since 2011 but what if I'm wrong?
