I find the lack of real buttons in that completely made up rendering disturbing
But Lord Vader it is just a rendering, is not real, we can fix it... It is too late for that Commander Captain, Tear that car apart until you find those buttons! |

This thing has been spotted in the wild so many times. Production body is already developed, and has been photographed without camouflage. MK7 interior is 100x better.

I really don't like the MK8 golf interior. Huge step down from the MK7, as seen below:
I like the ID.3 interior a little bit more, acknowledging that it kind of has that "electric car" aura about it. It seems to have physical buttons for hvac and whatnot. |

That new interior / dash layout looks so damn cheap. Not a fan.

Why do those tablet screens always look so much out of place, like they’re an after thought? Can’t they find a better solution?

The only manufacturers that do a good job of integrating the tablet screen is Mercedes and BMW. Even then, you have a scroll wheel and several buttons by the shifter in BMW. Mercedes has theirs too.

So many are doing this where they velcro the screen on to the front of the dash in front. It looks terrible. Double din is exceptionally functional, but we can't have that. We have to have a big ass screen stick out like Scraps at a climate change convention.

Only reason I see them doing this is because of cost. I’d be willing to bed it’s extremely cheap to slap a tablet on a dash than manufacture a dash with cutouts for controls and knobs, the knobs and controls themselves, and source a head unit.

The screen thing can look terrible
But what it does do is move the screen closer to eye level and free up dash space for other things Like vents and storage I can see why manufacturers like it |

My issue with the tacked on display is you're fukt. That thing goes out, you have one and only one option, OEM. Double din you can replace with what you want aftermarket. |

That’s true
It how many people still change out stereos OEM Stereos in most mid priced and up cars are good enough for most people. The head unit going out is probably pretty rare but it could happen I suppose I am actually shocked people still install stereos in cars as the unit is so integrated with climate and seats now I used to do all that then realized that trying to get good sound in a car is not as easy as slapping in $ speakers. A car is a terrible sound stage with rubbish reflections and hard and soft materials OEMs can study that and perfect it The effort and cost soon fell into the ‘not worth it ‘ The sound system in my Allroad was insane. No way I could have improved it |

^Agreed, the Fender system in my R is absolutely spectacular. I have zero desire to ever upgrade it. If I listened to music with more low frequency bass, perhaps I'd go to a bigger sub, but for my rock/alternative music tastes, it's absolutely spectacular. I used to retrofit top-of-the-line stereo systems. I did it as a side job for a while, so I'm not just an "average consumer". Never heard a better OEM system.
There is a LOT that can be done in the post-processing of audio such that it's not necessary to go to an aftermarket "headunit" if you want good sound. Add in some good speakers and the difference will be night and day for a crappy OEM system, and you don't lose OEM integration. I also really despise the "plug and play" look of replaceable stereo systems. Looks straight out of the 90's. The cost of replacing the OEM screens isn't terrible. People are doing retrofits in the MK7 to get the bigger screens and it's a few hundred if you shop around. So if mine ever goes out, it'll be a similar price. |

I think Honda did a decent job with their new digital dash. Its possible to make a good tablet based screen, but humans are also use to tactile feel.

I have the same rage against my (work) MacBook Pro's lack of physical volume buttons.
It's even more absurd on a car because for most of us the requirement is to be able to adjust it without looking at it. Such a bad miss on a major use case. |
