Default Highest elevation in your WRX/STI

Going up whiteface mountain today and can drive up to about 4700ft I believe. Just curious where others have driven at high elevation. I've driven up mount Washington 6200ft but not my STI

I did this as well in CO with a 2006 WRX Wagon. Turbos really don't suffer at altitude like NA cars do. It was a blast!!!

Don't worry about it. Gone up Mt washington with mine just few months ago. It will make it no problems.

Got to remember turbo cars are not like NA when it comes to things like altitude. The turbo will still compress air into the engine even if the air is thinner. So you won't lose that much power or anything at all, compared to NA.

That being said, will say MPG is horrible going up, great coming down though lol

If car is protuned for a lower elevation would that make a difference going higher?

I stay at sea level mostly

Never had it up too high above 1800ft. I do notice a difference in fuel mileage though. At sea level I get better fuel mileage.

no... at least not unless it was a piss poor tune to start with. The ecu does altitude and temperature compensation.

I'm at 6,500 in Big Sky, MT and I don't know what my car feels like at sea level. Only ever go down to 4,500ft. But it feels good up here as far as I know.

11k on I-70 in Colorado. Could have sworn the car was running on 1 cylinder at that altitude.

Car felt like a dragster when I got back down to sea level.

No ecu should be constantly adjusting certain values to make up for that. Now if I protuned a car for 100ft and its at 5k and you went to a dyno before and after you may see a slight power loss, but nothing bad will happen.

Again reason why certain cars can't make it up is because the air gets thinner. Thinner air for na car is harder to get into the motor, making it struggle. Turbo though your compressing the air into the motor so your constantly giving it plenty of air so it doesn't struggle nearly as much. Again don't worry about.

I must be tripping myself out, there's definitely a big powerless, not that substantial I guess but definitely noticeable, also once I shift in this elevation my Rpms don't immediately drop like in lower, it will hover for a tad bit mid shift..

Also, my turbo timer is going higher, normal driving it'll stay on for about 45 seconds, up here it's around 1.5 mins, I'm just confused on how the type of air could effect my car like this. (Also around 50 degrees)

Tallest point around here is 2700ft and i've been up just about to that. Not as interesting as most but it was a fun drive to it.

There is definitely a power loss at altitude, just comes with the environment. If you are coming from sea level you will notice the loss, but the car will still run great. Live at 6500 in CO and on my weekly commutes I travel +/- 2000 vertical feet. On weekends I head up to the mountains, taken the WRX over 14K feet, Mt. Evans, Pikes Peak and many back country passes.

Trust me you would definitely notice the power loss of altitude in an NA car a lot more than what we see.

The turbo is great for providing power when most cars have none.

I regularly go over Loveland Pass 11,991 feet (3,655 m) and did a few drives through RMNP trail ridge road 12,183 ft (3,713 m). Also as Cory said Mt. Evans (highest paved road in NA).
