Ah, I think I see. Seems most people with problems either use USB or carplay like connection. We have 3 iphone SEs and 2 ipads we connect to the car via bluetooth and we get very solid connections with the phone and music. Our radio also works well (except for popping where radio signal isn’t super strong).

I have had some minor problems and I don't connect my phone to the infotainment system. I use a usb drive with more than a thousand songs on it.

I have had small freezes with the screen and it forgets my Sirus preset stations. But that is it.

At least the radio works.
If you reboot phone with the car on and running, you may have to wait until you get out of the car (for a while, a simple restart of the car doesn't do it) and back in and it'll work again. Like overnight.

I've seen this a few times.

Guess what... after like a week, suddenly it's working again. I'm glad that it works, but I'm also wondering what the root cause is. The only thing I can think of is that I used the Apple Maps navigation in Carplay and then for some reason the audio stopped freezing up.

Thanks, I am. I have the box in the settings checked to search for updates and every day it tells me that it is up to date. My car is connected to my wifi.

I have the 8" screen version and would like to perform the factory reset to see if it improves performance as discussed in this thread. I see a "Factory Data Reset" option under the General Settings menu. Is this the option the use to perform the factory reset or is it done through the hidden menu options? Thanks

I have a 2018 Crosstrek. Plug my iPhone X into it daily. Sometimes the head unit stays blank. Sometimes it just acts randomly flaky.

Sometimes I plug the phone and CarPlay just refuses to start. When that happens I can fix it once in a while by unplugging and replugging the phone. When that doesn't work starting the car again usually does, or rebooting the phone.

When CarPlay works it's awesome, but it certainly can be buggy.

Default Turning off the infotainment screen issues

I haven’t read through all 20 pages of this forum, but is anyone else having an issue with their infotainment where it won’t turn off when the car is turned off?

It happened to me a few months ago and I spoke to the dealership and they had me wait an hour to see if it would go off on its own, then had me unplug the car battery which ultimately fixed it.

It happened to me again today and I decided to take it to the dealer so they could diagnose the issue. The mechanic said he’s never heard of this happening to anyone else. The screen is currently frozen, none of the buttons work, backup camera doesn’t work and there is no way to turn it off.

I do have a lot of other issues with the screen like glitches when switching to the back up camera, slow screen changes and button responses at times, and all my Radio stations do not save and are stuck in “initializing”. I did have the recall done a few months back as well that was supposed to fix some of the backup camera issues.

Went to the dealer today and they mentioned the later models of the 2017 should have Infotainment issues fixed... is that true? It was just few months ago consumer reported 2017 model had reliability issues. Unsure if I should believe him or not.... pricing of the Impreza Sports + eyesight seemed okay at ~26k instead of listed 28k or should I be looking at the 2018 Impreza or Crosstrek (2017 for old system or 2018 for new redesign system). All of this is too confusing....

If you have the Subaru STARLINK app on your phone, even if you don’t use it, take it off. My current theory is that the app connects to the car and then crashes causing the system to get confused. Up until I discovered this, I made sure that the infotainment system was completely powered up before plugging in my phone. Since I’ve removed the app (which I never used), I’ve been plugging in my phone before the car starts and so far (knock on wood), CarPlay has started just fine.

Default Carplay will not stay connected...

I have a 2017 Impreza with the 8" system. When I first plug my phone in CarPlay works great. Then 20 minutes into a drive it disconnects, then I try to reconnect it and nothing happens. When I am at work all day and get back in my car the same thing happens. Tried my wife's Iphone and it performs worse than mine. Tried different apple brand cables, resetting everything, nothing works. Software is up to date. Very frustrating as I love the features of Carplay.

Anyone at Subaru have the new update files for Rel.2.17.43.40 ?? Heard there has been customers who have had their units updated to that just recently.

There should be a new update. I was having an alignment done today and they did my third software update.

I've found that if you turn the car off, you can hear a small fan still going inside the infotainment unit. If you wait a minute or so until the fan shuts off, that's usually enough to get it to fully reboot.

Had to do that recently to get Bluetooth up and running. Or wait, I think it was actually Android Auto that was glitching. Rebooted my phone, still didn't work, rebooted the head unit, it then worked.

Anyone else having problems with the clock?

If I set it to Auto (set time by satellite), the clock will set itself- but to the wrong time. At 1:45pm yesterday, the time on the Impreza clock (upper screen) showed 2:42pm. If my iPhone is connected, the infotainment system (8” screen) pulls the correct time from my phone. However, the clock on the upper screen shows a different time. So they also don’t sync.

So I have to set the clock manually. Not a huge deal, but just one more annoyance with this system. So many things do not “just work” as they should.

Mentioned all the problems to my dealer, who said they’d flash it then think about replacing the system if that didn’t work. But I really think this is just bad software, and a hardware swap won’t help.

Anyone else?

The auto set up should work as long as you have Satellite radio subscription. I havent tried it myself. I been using the Manual set up which good enough for me.

I re-read the manual, and it’s supposed to auto set when pairing a phone and downloading the phone book. I tried that again and it doesn’t work. Not related to satellite radio, either- had my trial subscription til a few days ago and it did nothing.

I don’t mind setting the clock manually - but if Subaru’s going to put in options, just make sure they WORK! So many instances of things not working like they’re supposed to.

I see what you mean. I never really tried the auto set up. As for everything else with the system it seems to work just fine for me. I hook my phone up and Android Auto is ready for use. The Bluetooth works fine to when I don't feel like plugging the phone in. As you know with technology there will always be bugs to be found. Some of us are just fortunate to have the system run as it's meant to run.

Can anyone with Rel.2.17.43.40 confirm whether it totally jacks up new things that were previously working, or if it's actually a release worth getting? Normally I'm an early adopter but dealing with this headunit is like software update roulette.

I got it and it really seemed to do nothing to address my CarPlay issues. I have not played with it extensively, but the NEW issue that I have noticed that I never had before is when I put my car in reverse now and I am using my phone for CarPlay, the sound will have static while in reverse. This goes away when you are back in park or drive, but it is amazing they are ADDING issues instead of solving them.

Has anyone seen a message saying “No signal”? I have 2.17.22.20 and will be getting 2.17.43.20 later this week (I hope).

Mine does that when I leave the garage because the unit can't read the wifi anymore.

If you pay for Sirius then it will say that if you lose signal.
