So. I am confused. I wanted to get all of my ducks in a row before I start the install tomorrow. Hoping to knock it out in the morning.

My confusion is mainly with the backup camera situation.

I have keep hearing about this 5 pin connector that some have for the back up camera and some don't. My car is the 2017 base model with the 6.2" regular Clarion. Does that use the 5 pin connector or no?

Final (I hope question) about the Maestro SW. Which pins would I tap into for Accessory (12+) and Ground? Thanks!

Oh. I didn't see the video. I'll search for it.

I installed the radio this weekend and I'd say overall it was a pretty easy/straight forward install EXCEPT I didn't even attempt to connect the backup camera.

I purchased an RCA cable to tap into the harness (for the headunits RCA video input) but the wire gauge is super thin and I'm not terribly confident in it. I need to source something with a thicker wire (probably doesn't matter but just for ease of use on my end). And at the time I couldn't quite wrap my head around how to wire the 6v step down converter so I just skipped that for the time being. I'll tear into it again this weekend.

Only downside is I need to go back in and tidy up the wiring (just cable management) And need to fine tune the position of the headunit. Right now its a few millimeters off in some direction that interferes with the movement of the screen (in various tilt modes).

Default GCS APEX V2 in 2017 STI

I'm preparing to install the GCS APEX V2 from Subispeed in my 2017 STI and had a few questions. Does anyone know if the factory mid-level non-nav HU has the 5-pin connector? I'd like to reuse the factory backup cam, so need to know what I might be in for. Hate to start crimping connectors on the wrong wires.

I purchased all the wiring accessories - the 28-pin connector, 6v - 12v converter, RCA adapter, etc. - for my install. Are there any gotchas? I did a search, but didn't find much. Also, does the HU come with instructions, or do I need to refer to the Subispeed install video (it arrives today)? It's okay, but skips over a bunch of small steps.

Thanks!

jm

Did you get this worked out? I just installed the new Seicane unit this weekend which seems to pretty much be the same unit as the Subispeed one under another name.

Anyway... mine is a 2016 but same HU as you. The video from Subispeed gave me all I needed. He rushes through it a little but play it back a few times and jot down all the wires he mentions.

The red/white/black wires he mentions in the video weren't on a 5-pin harness on my car. They are wires 11,12,13 on the 28-pin harness in the pic posts a few posts ago.

I have a question of my own for anyone reading though. This unit has it's own option of displaying grid lines but they are a bit off for my camera. Is there any way to modify them?

I saw a thread elsewhere about a guy rooting his device and replacing the .png file he edited with better grid lines but I have no idea how to go about rooting or if that's complete overkill.

Any ideas?

Just installed a pioneer 2300nex and was loving it with android auto... but all of a sudden it stopped working. I've tried other phones, cables, nothing works.

When I connect my phone it flashes that it's charging for a second, then drops. It just continually does this until I unplug it. It randomly worked for a few minutes the other day, then stopped again

This is running through the OEM usb port under the arm rest. Any ideas?

Check connections behind radio. Something probably came loose.

Default 2016 WRX aftermarket HU install

Looking to see if this is normal or something that can be changed. I have a 4200nex and an idatalink swc. The steering wheel mute button doesn't mute in car play mode. It only acts as a an enter button. If I press it while let's say right after adjusting the volume. It makes that menu disappear. When not in car play mode it doesn't mute either. It instead reduces the volume (att) but this is only if Bluetooth is connected.

Default wiring question

Finally got around to wiring up my harness and had a couple of questions you veterans might be able to answer (phd or svx, maybe you can help?. Figured it was easier to upload a short video to show you which wires I'm having trouble with:

(when I say "metra harness" in the video, I meant to say "pioneer harness")

Howdy...I was wondering if anyone could lend me some guidance on what may be going wrong with my Metra ASWC-1, '17 WRX, and Kenwood DMX7704s.

I made a little video showing what I had done so far, resetting the ASWC-1, and how nothing seems to work.

*Edit*
I called the Metra tech support and got it working! 1. the ground was not sufficient, which is indicated by the solid green light (confusing). 2. the auto-detect does not work for '17 model cars yet, so I had to custom program in the buttons.

Thanks!

Yeah, the pickup/hangup/ptt/ buttons are doing channel changes right now. I will try to reprogram it tomorrow morning.

Otherwise I may have to look into another converter. Maybe the Maestro RR.

I threw together a little newbies guide over at the WRX subreddit. Hopefully it can help some people that struggled with the same things I did.

So I finally got around to installing everything today. All is good EXCEPT all sources (phone, radio, etc) cuts out and stutters when I'm accelerating from a stop AND when I make turns... it this a grounding problem? Do I need to cut off the factory ground connector and solder it to all my other black ground wires in my harness? Or did I goof up the grounds on the harness (I just soldered all of the grounds together)? Desperate for some answers, any help would be much appreciated.

*not an expert*

Definitely sounds like some connection is loose. Maybe even the plug into the back of the radio?

Finally figured it out. It was this ****ing Pioneer dumb mute setting buried in the menu. Had to set it to off, not ATTN or Mute.

Well, Subaru seems to be working with HK only so that would be fine.

Any inside info on this?

Any timeline on this? And one more question, if you guys are releasing a new harness for Subaru, can we assume that RR and AR will support newer cars with premium sound systems?

by the way, Merry Christmas everyone!!! Living in Turkey , so no Xmas around here.

Need help.

I have Pioneer 4200, Maestro RR, Alpine KTP-445U amp, micro bypass. I encounter two problems.

1. Maestro kept flashing red (two blink). I double checked with earlier instruction on this thread and all wires are connected as instructed.

2. My radio have static as soon as the car is on. I read on Post #875, that i might need to connect Metra 40-LX11 to Metra 70-1761's blue wire. But currently I have 5 blue/blue white wires connected together (HU/70-1761/40-LX11/amp/Bypass).

Anyone know what might have been the problem?

Static noise usually happens when there is a problem with your ground. Make sure you use a solid grounding point.

Thats great news. I am planning on getting a Kenwood HU for my Levorg and mate it with a Maestro RR to see some magical gauges. Hopefully it will work on the premium sound systems.

1. Grounded the original set up to the chassis behind the HU. Still static.

2. Separated the amp and tried it again. Still static.

3. Separated amp and maestro wires and tried again. Still no luck.

4. Seperated bypass, amp, maestro and tired again. Still the same.

The static was low, only loud because of the amp setting was middle volume. Could this be the fault of headunits?

And i really don’t know what to do with maestro, since i wired per PhD’s wiring list and it still blinking red.
