Default Top Scoob 030, You Can't Spell "Stig" without "STI"

I realized last month that it has been a long time (005 to be exact!!) since we've had a round for the STI crowd so it's with great pleasure Top Scoob 030, You Can't Spell "Stig" without "STI" gets underway. This round is open to any and all Impreza STIs. Imprezas only, no swapped RS, WRXs, Foresters, or Legacies please. To be eligible your car must have been an STI model from the off. To make it interesting we are allowing UK and JDM entries which means we could have everything from a super mint '94 Mk I Type B Wagon to a 2011 bewinged metalflake bruiser.

So without delay, if you have an STI and think it worthy, read the rules below and get your entry in for Top Scoob 030, You Can't Spell "Stig" without "STI" !!!

It’s easy to enter your car, all you need is a Subaru, a camera, a place to host pictures, a user account here on NASIOC.com, and the ability to type a sentence or two…

The Rules are as follows...
  • Please limit your entry post to only FIVE pictures of your car, whatever you feel best shows off your hard work. Once the voting begins you are allowed to add more pictures to your entry post and/or with new posts. Feel free to post away for as long as you remain in the running.
  • A written description of your ride, the more detailed the better. We’re talking about more than just a mod list, we want you to share the story behind your Scoob. Tell us why and how you bought it, what inspires you to modify it, and what all you’ve done to it and why. Most important is to tell us what you do with your car...race, show, cruise, polish with a diaper, whatever.
Think of it as your own magazine feature, the better you sell your car to the masses the better the chances of your Subaru becoming a Top Scoob. If you win your words will be used in your car's feature on TopScoob.com so make them count!

  • You're more then welcome to start a campaign thread in your Regional Forum however the General, Off Topic, and Gallery forums are off limits to threads requesting votes. If you already have a thread about your car in the Gallery feel free to bump away. If you don't have a build thread consider starting one!
  • TRASH TALKING is not welcome in this contest. If you need to tear down another competitor to improve your own or a friend's chances please remember this is only a contest intended to be fun for all Subaru enthusiasts.
How it works
  • This is a contest, open to all Nasioc members that own a Subaru.
  • You must be the current owner of the car, no third party entries allowed. If you have a question about your car's eligibility please just ask.
  • When it's time to enter you can do by responding to Top Scoob thread in either Nasioc's Official News, Articles, and Polls Forum, the Member's Car Gallery or check for one of the Top Scoob LOCALS ONLY rounds in NASIOC's regional or international forums. Any themes or restrictions on entries will be clearly described before the contest begins. For example: GC Only, or Wagons Only, or STi, ect. ect. there's a new theme every time.
  • Please only one entry per person.
Voting and Eliminations
  • There are three rounds of voting, Round One = 8 days, Round Two = 8 days, Final Round = 10 days
  • After the First Round only the Top Ten cars move on.
  • After the Second Round only the Top Three move on.
  • The Top Three cars will go head to head to head in a final poll to select who has the next Top Scoob.
  • Votes are automatically reset to zero at the start of each round.
  • In case of a tied vote for the last transfer spot in the first two rounds, the entrants involved will compete in a 24-hour Run Off vote.
If there is a tied vote for first place in the final round, a 72-hour Run Off vote will decide the winner.

2002 V7 STi Prodrive
Edition... Black!

Default

Hi guys & gals of NASIOC.

Here's my UK 2002 Prodrive edition version 7 STi***8230; Yes, she's a genuine version 7 bugeye STi.

Some of you may well have followed my build thread on here and seen the car right from its infancy. I've now owned this very car for the last 8 years after previously owning a 350bhp Ford Sapphire RS Cosworth.

As a young boy growing up in the 80s and 90s id always wanted a Cosworth, it was my dream car and at the age of 19 I completed my apprenticeship with Ford Motor Co I finally treated myself to an ebony black Cosworth.

I owned the cossie for 2 years. Of which I loved every minute. However I reached a point where I wanted a change, the cossie wasn't getting any younger and I wanted something with as much "bang for buck" as possible. I did my research and after being a huge rally fan decided I wanted an Impreza.

Not just any Impreza, I wanted a bugeye STi, Prodrive edition. The Prodrive edition was a special edition in the UK limited to 1000 cars as I understand it. 900 in blue and 100 in black. It came with different styling inc front bumper, skirts and blue dash clocks etc. More importantly, it looked as close to S7 WRC cars I so drooled over on the rally stages.

I finally tracked down a 3 year old, bone stock Prodrive edition with just 21k miles on the clock. She was a minter too***8230; lovely.

The first 4 years of her life I slowly tuned the stock 2ltr up to approx 400bhp on a stock location FP green. I had taken her all over the UK to various racetracks and around Europe, including lots of trips to the Nurburgring nordschliefe and Germanys WRC event.
Through the Subaru scene and club I belong to, I had become great friends with a local tuner and he helped me develop the car to the point I was at. We were very close and hatched a plan to build a 2.5ltr motor together and tune the car to approx 450bhp.

In August 2008 I removed the stock engine and began collecting parts to build the car into something even more special.

Shortly after our friendship collapsed and I was left with the car on my driveway with no engine, it had been sold and the cars body emblazoned with his company logos.

I was sick of the car and gutted our friendship had collapsed, so I left it. She sat for over a year as I just couldn't stand the sight of her. I decided to go and do something completely different and went freestyle kiting for a year. The car got left completely untouched and unloved.

All the while I stayed in touch with many other Subaru friends who tried so hard to help me rekindle the love for the car and continue the build on my own.

Sometime in March 2010, something sparked and decided enough was enough and I had to rebuild the car into something special, continue my dream and go it alone.

After all, it wasn't the cars fault***8230;

Slowly, I continued to source and collect all the parts one by one, and piece by piece I began her rebuild. Only no longer was my target 450bhp, if i was going to do this, i was going to make a statement, Now i was looking for 550bhp. All the while I wanted to keep the car as a road car that I took to the track, not a stripped out ugly racer that i used on the road.
But I would build the car with a level of finish that I would use RCM as my benchmark. RCM (Roger Clark Motorsport) are the pinacle of Subaru tuning here in the UK. They were/are the elite and i wanted to achieve a level of detial that comapred to the work they did. I wanted everything to look and feel OEM.

As if this were a special edition that Subaru themselves might have built.

I spent months and months, sourcing, designing, fabricating and powdercoating custom parts. Parts including my own design CNC combustion chambers, pinning my own block, building my own wiring harness, making my own fuel rails, oil cooler ram air box, wing insert and various other bespoke parts. I didnt turn a single spanner untill i was 100% ready to assemble the motor. Every fastener that i could use i swapped to stainless, ever part i could i powdercoated. I wanted this to be something to be proud of.
18 months later we fast forward to October of 2011. Now I finally had the car running and took her to be tuned by Simon Roe down at Surrey Rolling Road.

I told Simon I wasn't interested in a horsepower figure as such, just map it so it's happy and safe and whatever It made it made. I stood next to the dyno like an expectant father waiting for my creation to be unleashed.
Slowly and surely the numbers came up, pull after pull she got stronger and stronger pulling at the 4 straps holder her down.

I walked away absolutely delighted, we capped the power and torque for longevity with figures of 573bhp and 520lbsft.

Forgetting figures, the car drove beautifully. It had huge power and torque, the delivery was superb and I was finally behind the wheel of my own creation. All the late nights, early starts, blood sweat and tears were finally showing their worth.

Remember this car has no sponsors and has been built by one guy on a driveway, no big garage, no vehicle lift no unlimited budget. Every single nut and bolt has been done by myself. Only the mapping and painted panels have been done by others.

Now I'm enjoying the car for what it is and have a few more plans ahead, one of which being a rear custom rollcage and as we speak I'm redesigning my interior.

If you would like to read about the car in full, please check out my build thread here. Here you will truly see the rollercoaster of a journey this car has taken me on.

Until then, here's the current build spec and photos.

Many thanks for reading; I would also like to thank various member of NASIOC for shipping me parts, helping me with ideas and decisions along the way.

Big thanks to all of you over the years, but especially the following:

Paulie : Man, where do I start? Your car has inspired me so much. To me it has and always will be king of the hill. Nothing will ever come close as to me its pure Impreza. No crazy wheels and bodykits. Just out and out pure rally inspired Impreza. I salute you man.

Scby Rex: Thanks for all your help getting me parts man, parts that were tough to source her in the UK. You stepped up and helped me out no end. Thanks a heap man.

Tino, DMoney, Boostjunkie and Wayno: These guys are pure inspiration to me, superb cars built with superb commitment and detail. Thanks for all the laughs and enjoyment of watching your creations take on the ups and downs that I also have been facing.

Thanks for reading

her goes nothing.

My name is Ivan. i'm 22 from jersey.

As for the car, well its been a roller coaster ride in the almost 2 years that I
had it. But lets start from the beginning. I had placed an order for a 2011 SWP
sti hatch way back in august 2010. By December the car has still not been
allocated and my then daily driver decided to take its last breath. I scavenged
to find an STi I could pick up on the fly and ended up getting a great deal on the
complete opposite car of what I originally wanted. Truth be told, i'm happy I got a WRB
sedan. To me thats the exact car that comes into mind when you say the word
Subaru.

So lets start with what everyone always says when they buy one of these, "I won't
mod the car". what a load of bull****. As soon as i broke the car in the
mod bug bit. I can't say i have a modding style however. some people mod for
aesthetics, others for sheer power; I'm probably in between. I like it all, and
have a lot of respect for people who go all out on builds, but in
the end this is my daily driver so for now i'm trying to not get too carried away.
Like i said, I drive the car everyday. Take
it on road trips and drives all over, track it, take it to shows, etc. rain, snow,
any weather its gets driven and then i try to pamper the stuff subaru calls paint
when i have time.

I started modding with the generic stuff: short throw, wheels, AP, vinyl..etc. I
eventually did the stuff everyone does...the stage 2 OTS stuff. The power and
suspension mods are pretty similar to most others however. I don't have a built block
or putt down some crazy horsepower. The car was tuned by Chris - RIP - at EFI logics.
it put down 291hp/320 tq on their dyno. Eventually though i wanted to do things I
don't see all the time. which is how it got to how it sits today.
I wanted to shy away from black/bronze/white wheels or any other things you can see all over.
I wanted to have a really meaty looking setup that could handle just as good
as it looks. I ended up snagging a great deal on my all time favorite wheels,
the XT7's, and I had them redone after last fall in a one off fluorescent yellow.
I then wrapped them in some 275/35's to make sure it had enough meat.
this is what i ended up with.

However before I could finish the rest of the minor exterior bits, once i buttoned all my suspension and power mods all of its was
for lack of a better word, destroyed. april 9th I was hit by a guy who blew
a .3% BAC. he was a bit tipsy i'd say

Being stuck in rental cars for over 3 months it really makes you realize what
you have had. the STi is unlike any car, and the community truly is the best,
hands down. Through owning this car i've made friends that I will have for
the rest of my life. They helped me strip the car only to put everything back
into it because insurance refused to total it out. I can't thank everyone
who helped enough when all of this went down. Whether it's driving me to the body shop, helping me wrench for days,
and just hearing me bitch because I was borderline depressed over this. The subaru community is truly one off.

i got the car back finally this passed thursday after having it back a few weeks
prior but having to send it back to the shop due to electrical problems. This is
how she sits as of this passed thursday.

I don't know what else to say. For everyone who read this, take the time to enjoy your cars,
you never know when some ******* can take it all away.

My YouTube Channel for Videos! http://www.youtube.com/alcoolaid

I don't even know where to begin! The car and I have been through so much together. I first picked up the car at Carter Subaru in Seattle, WA in August 2007. From then on, the car kept going through changes and I had never ending plans (I honestly thought I would stop somewhere).

From a young age I always thought myself as being more hands on and more experienced with technological/mechanical things. When I was 12 I was already building computers for family and friends. By around 14 I was building and maintaining Nitro R/C cars and trucks and racing them on the weekends with friends after school. This is probably where I learned about air/fuel ratio's tuning the 3 needle carburetor, learning about how a clutch works and how different friction materials work, also about shock oil weight, spring weight, brake disc upgrades, and etc. A lot of the small scale stuff was a great stepping stone for me. I also rode downhill mountain bikes with 5 way rear shocks and 3 way front shocks. This is honestly where I learned how to tune compression, rebound, spring rates, and pre-load on my car. Everything I learned was self-taught through reading manuals, researching online for hours on my spare time, or just trying it out and hoping for the best My parents are both accountants and they know nothing about hands on stuff so I didn’t have that type of dad to teach me anything. If they need a dishwasher changed out they didn't call a plumber, they made me do it after I finished my homework!

I worked on friend's cars before I even had my Subaru. My good friends had Acura RSX's and liked to modify them. Started with cold air intakes and exhausts, then we moved onto header installs, and coilover suspension with adjustable arms. Then getting more advanced doing ecu tuning through a Hondata K-Pro learning how to log and do adjustments. Finally got bored of NA power and went forced induction with a turbo kit. That was good fun and a great learning experience installing that. Point is, everything I did was step by step and was a learning process. I definitely didn't just jump in and build a Subaru motor .

Anyway, enough of my life story leading up to my Subaru. When I got the car, I already had Defi gauges my friends bought me for my birthday; had those installed the same day. A few weeks later I read on Nasioc how bad the factory tunes were. So instead of just getting a stage 1 reflash, I got a catless downpipe and exhaust, and flashed on an open source stage 2 tune with some of my own tweaks. After that, coilovers, wheels, tires and I took the car to autocross in 2007. That was fun till I took my car to a track day in 2008 and that is when the bug hit. It was really fun and I learned a lot about suspension setup and how to drive a car properly through the instructors at Proformance Racing School at Pacific Raceways. However, the car was pretty low on power compared to the 997 Turbos, GT3's, Z06's, and M3's out there so I was getting passed like I was driving a 200hp Civic out of low speed corners and on the straight. That winter I tore down the stock engine and the 8 month process of going from stage 2 to 511whp began.

I rebuilt the engine myself with new pistons, rods, bearings, and an ACT XT clutch that could hold more torque. I slapped on a custom made twinscroll T4 manifold and up-pipe mated to a 68lb/min Borg Warner S300sx 83-75 turbo and dual Tial 38mm MV-S wastegates. I planned and built the fuel system to include new feed and return lines, a surge tank to eliminate having to run more than ½ tank on the track, and an external fuel pump and filter. I also stripped as much weight off as I could. Removed everything from the whole dash to get the insulation mat out to the rear brake vibration dampeners to drop some more weight. Afterwards, I got the car tuned by Dominic Acia at Maxwell Power Services and the car was a blast to drive.

Soon I was passing the cars that were passing me just a season earlier. Best feeling I ever had. Stock seats didn't cut it anymore as my knees were getting bruised trying to brace myself in the corners so in came the bucket seats and 6 point harness. Then soon I got bored of the stock heads restricting my power and the Cobb AP not releasing the speed density that they said they would at that time so I got a pair of built heads, wired in my own Vi-Pec V88 standalone ECU and off to Maxwell Power I went again. End result: 597whp @ 27.6 psi on 92 octane + 50/50 meth injection. Did many track days after that and after a firmware update on the ECU caused my meth injection not to spray, I damaged a few pistons. With a track day coming up, I had the engine torn down 2 weeks before the event, dropped the rebuilt engine 2 days before and I tuned the next day! I actually did this a couple times. Hats off to the crew at Maxwell Power (Dom, Craig, Dave) for always getting my stuff completed in such a short time frame and fitting me into their busy schedule.

Did two street legal nights in my car, both times I only got one pass. First time I ran an 11.34 and then because the track got too cold, it was closed and couldn't do another pass. Second time I got kicked out for running 11.24 @ 127 with no cage on my first pass. That was the low boost map too on street tires! Have not had time to go back to do that 10 second pass because drag racing really never interested me. At the beginning of this season I needed more down force and grip to cut those lap times down so I added fender flares in the rear to allow full wheel travel of 275/35/18 slicks and I built my own 6mm thick splitter/100mm extension supported by its own aluminum frame bolted to the chassis. In addition I added a Kognition Design chassis mount wing to provide down force to the rear. After an unfortunate event with bad gas at the track, my forged CP piston took a dump and out came the engine again (at least I cut a few seconds off my personal best time). This time a Maxwell Power Signature Series block went into my car consisting of a Dan Benson sleeved block, JE custom pistons, and MPS +2mm long rods. Right now it's running at 25 psi putting out around 540whp on low timing. Soon we will turn it up to 30+ and we'll see how she runs.

Currently working over 30 hours a week with 10 hours of school (studying Chartered Accountant in Canada) combined with studying, girlfriend and relaxing time, hard to balance time with the car and all but I end up getting it done somehow! Whether it be getting 12 hours sleep over 3 days I'll always have that drive to get the car ready for anything! I get the drive to keep going because I love the challenge and feel it's a great opportunity to learn some life skills that maybe I can even pass onto my own kids some day. People always think I'm a mechanic at a shop but I'm actually an accountant that works with a calculator. Playing with the car is just an expensive hobby and doing everything myself allows me to save money. Basically the only time I have paid for services is getting an alignment, corner balancing, dyno tuning, and machine work as it's quite expensive for those tools! I enjoy the satisfaction of not only being able to drive a built Subaru but being able to drive it hard and enjoy it. As you can tell from my YouTube channel I'm not easy with the car and I'm not afraid to put my work through its paces!

Thanks for reading and hope you understand the learning process I went through with this car and hopefully it is worthy to be a Top Scoob on Nasioc after its long journey! I am putting on the front fender flares on right now and hopefully will get a full photo shoot soon so I can post pictures up of the car in street trim as this is actually my daily driver although I take public transportation to work. Good luck to all and thanks to those who encouraged me to enter

Arthur

Thx bro! I'm bored and this is taking too long. So I thought if I entered it would generate more interest
Any topscoob is sick, though the build one would be nice. We need to get a move on, cause D$ is keeping his shell so he can enter the next topscoob.

So get your entries in already people

Ya I'LL BE DONE NEXT YEAR. Once IAG finish up the wiring, cage and a few little things, all i need is a BBK and another set of track wheels and she's finished.
Then just race the piss out of it until my son turns 16. 2024 he gets it to drive to school

Not two weeks after I got the car tuned things took a turn for the worse.

First I was rear ended by someone on a busy road during rush hour. It was a low speed hit resulting in a small dent on my rear bumper from her license plate screw. Since I didn’t want to hold up rush hour traffic over such minimal damage and since I had her insurance information and pictures of the whole thing I told her I wouldn’t call the cops and that I would be in touch. Turns out the phone number her insurance company had was now disconnected and the only thing they could do was send her a letter asking for her side of the story. I was told if they didn’t hear from her in 30 days the claim would be handled by a supervisor and they would determine if they are going to pay me or not. Sure enough 30 days pass and they didn’t hear from her. I offer up my side of the story and my pictures (which they didn’t accept) only to be told they were not going to handle my claim. They told me to go file with my insurance company and if I told my insurer what happened they would sue the other insurance company for my deductible back. I called my insurance company to make sure the other company wasn’t trying to screw me and my insurance assured me they would get my deductible back. My car was fixed and to this date I still haven’t received my $500 deductible back.

Pissed, but just glad to have my car back things were looking up from there until November 11, 2011. I was waiting to take a left turn at a green light (no arrow) at a busy intersection and I was sitting in the intersection patiently waiting to take my turn once traffic cleared or once the light turned red. I see the light go yellow and prepare to clear the intersection. The light turns red and now I need to clear the intersection, there is a car stopped at the red light opposite of me so I couldn’t see the car in the other lane about to blow the red light. I was t-boned by a guy who swore the light was yellow. I had two of my friends and my brother in the car; my brother was sitting at the door that got plowed in to. Luckily no one was injured but with no witnesses and since the other driver’s story didn’t match up with mine it was listed as a no fault accident and I was stuck going through my insurance again to fix the car. Luckily they didn’t total the car and after two miserable months I got the car back.

I toyed with the idea of selling the car and moving on to something different but once I got it back I remembered why I bought it in the first place.
same boat as you. i was without my car for all of last summer. got it back and i jsut dont feel the same about it after my accident. the car was repared and no one can even tell the difference but for some reason i just can't look at it the same. damn ******* drunk drivers. this entire lawsuit between the insurance companies isn't helping either...

your car is very clean though man. always loved the oem+ look.

There's no need to quote the entire post when it's right above you. The member's name or a single picture is fine, but some of us have computers that don't enjoy loading twice as many photos as necessary.

I do agree with what you've said though. Gorgeous cars. Lets get more participation!!!

Both accidents were a headache and I wish it upon no one to have to deal with insurance companies. My insurer lost my business with how they handled both situations and I will be switching once it expires. It's irritating to take such good care of your car only to have other people **** it all up.

Thanks for the compliment, I've always been a fan of clean and simple. That being said, you have one mighty fine looking sedan there.
