just did this entire job on my 02 bugeye friday.
the GBOD's do suck arse and the passenger side is the harder one to remove (counted 9 bolts all facing different directions!). i used a dremel to remove the hose from the drivers side and i will not be putting them back on. we must have removed and set the injectors 15 times and every time we primed the injectors they leaked. after wanting to push my car off a cliff, we decided to get into another car (thank god there was one) and drive to the nearest auto parts store to find new o-rings (the first store was out so we had to drive another 45 minutes to another one to get them. thank god we were able to find them). lifted the injectors again, placed the new o rings on and first turn of the key there were ZERO leaks! we could have avoided 4 hours of unnecessary wrenching if we did not try to re use the old o rings (also the o rings that came on the pinks from the guy i bought them from). even though you MAY be able to re use the o rings, if i can stress any advise enough here, do yourselves all the favor and learn from my mistakes and get NEW o rings no matter what before you do the injectors! -jay

I put GBOD back on driver side - took me 5 min. I didn't bother installing it on passenger side.

Did this last week and everything went in pretty easy. The GBOD's are not as hard as I was led to believe. Got them out and Was going to leave some bolts out of the passenger side, but my friend helping me was intent on getting it all together. Had Deatschwerks injectors, so they had all new rings and everything. Forgot about the lube and had just used gas. Everything has been running great and no leaks so far. Basically, have new O-rings and another set available if you need them is what I've gotten out of the issues people have had.

going to do this right now.. needed to sticky this as im going be running in and out of the house...lol
update. I found I didnt have to remove the tmic. I was only doing the driver side as I had a bad injector. I found if I removed the oil fill tube it gave me access to the front breather bolt and the other 2 I just removed with a 10mm wrench, pretty straight forward, great write up to work from. Is there any real reason to put that big heavy metal bracket back on?? it only really covers up the fuel rail and holds the wiring harness. Last edited by . o 69 o .; 11-25-2012 at 05:33 PM. |

That would be the GBOD. Green Bracket of Death. Yes they are a huge pain, most people remove them, I certainly did. Some people state that they would help reduce chances of fire in a collision, but the overwhelming majority of people apparently remove them rather than deal with reinstalling.

For the reason above, I put the GBOD back only on driver side.

fuel leak after blue sti injector install
first post but i might have missed someone talking about this in all of the pages for this. Just did the install on 02 wrx for blue 2015 560cc injectors and there is a fuel leak after the install now that i cannot seem to find. It took 5 ish times to get the injectors not to leak. It seems to not be coming from the injectors and after i start the car, smoke begins to come out of the up pipe area and the car runs a bit weird but from what i remember close to normal. I do have a base tune from a tuner already loaded on. The passenger side fuel rail does make a weird sound when i prime the fuel pump. I have a feeling the problem is some hose or connection to the fuel rail since i was moving around the fuel rail to replace the injectors. If anyone has had a problem similar to this or knows anything about this any help would be appreciated.
thanks update: Problem is fixed Last edited by e85wrxwagon; 01-06-2016 at 02:02 AM. Reason: fixed |

Installed 07 Blue injectors 16611AA720 to replace pinks. Had a cylinder 3 misfire. Tried swapping coil packs, compression test, plugs. Instructions here were good but would add to remove the fuel line bolts to allow easy removal of injectors. The lines have a few fixing points that make injector removal difficult. Otherwise this is an easy job. Used a little silicone dielectirc grease to lube seals. Purchased new seals 16608KA000. Injectors came with other seals.
