I hate kids that are just given things. Plus I know when I was 17 driving around I thought the streets were my race track. I couldn't imagine driving an sti around at that age. Glad I had an na 240sx or I prob would be paralyzed..

I bought my kids cars but they were beaters. A new STI? Never, I love my children and would never buy them a car that they lack the experience to handle.

Nope, never. I had a na 3000GT when I was 17(bought and paid for myself) and I blew the engine at 140 down a open country main road. It was stupid, and I lost my baby because I couldn't afford to do the swap. Then when I was 18, I financed a 2007 Honda CBR600RR and found myself doing 170 on the thruway. If I could go back and smack the $hit out of me, I would. Couldn't imagine giving a child/teen something so powerful knowing the stupid crap I did.

No. A friend of mine got one at 17. he had it for 11 months. Then totaled it doin 90 on an off ramp. Generally whenever i hear a younger person say "i had an sti" they 99% of the time totaled it. That is way to much car for an immature teenager or even early 20's person. Im 26 and just got my sti and thank god i waited the 9 years to get one. That car would b totaled and i might be dead.

I hate that people on NASIOC in particular are such haters on fortunate people. I bought my own 03 bugeye and now my 11 STI, but if someone wanted to buy either for me there is no chance I would have said "no, id like to spend my own money on it, but thanks".

Nothing like bashing people who happen to be fortunate. Just a bunch of bitter people who wish someone had given them an STI. For those who say you wouldn't take a free STI tell your lies somewhere else.

Who cares how anyone got their cars on this website. We all have the same/similar passions for subarus or we wouldnt frequent NASIOC.

a search would have yielded all the people who already gripe about this on a regular basis.

^^^^Fortunate? You're an idiot. It has to do with not wanting my kid to kill him/herself and others due to lack of experience. I don't care how smart or responsible you think you are at 16. You're not.

Never.

I got a hand-me-down from my parents, and was told this was the ONE car they were giving me. I'd imagine if someone just handed me a set of keys, I would have been more likely to take more risks. Not to mention every other kid at his school would be trying to race him. Don't get me wrong, there are a fewwww kids who may be responsible enough to handle that car, but I wouldn't take that risk. There is a track I used to race my bike at, and they offer new-er drivers a defensive driving course, which I would highly recommend any teen take, as it puts them in situations that a normal drivers ed course wont...skidding, oversteer, etc. If/When I have kids...I plan on putting them through that course, regardless of the type of car they're driving

The other thing is what do they have to look forward to when they get older, or even in a few years for their next car?! Porsche, Lambo? I bought my WRX not because I couldn't afford the sti, but because I have other financial goals (ie house purchase), and decided I could use that extra few thousand more wisely right now, and also because I wanted to have a goal of an sti way down the road.

Also, who is paying his insurance?! I'd imagine that is almost as much as the car payment lol

I'm not hating, my parents could have gotten/given me a MUCH more powerful and nicer car then my 93 Volvo, but they didn't because they knew what a 16 year old kid would do, and didn't want to take that risk. In fact, when I was 15-16, we had an M3, and a 67 GTO in the garage that never got driven. My dad would take me out in both of them, let me drive, get the feel, and even speed a bit. He did know that if either was MY car, I would have had a TON of tickets at best, at worst he'd have one less kid.

BTW - You just said you would have turned down a free Sti, but then call everyone liars who said the same?!

My first car at 16 was a bugeye, I got hit and totaled, not my fault. Used the insurance money as a down payment on a 2008 WRX, sold that WRX to my mom, and bought an 05 Sti.

But, at the age of 20, I was run off the road and cut my baby in half with a telephone pole. Now I'm driving a '90 turbo miata.

99 percent of the time, its not you, its the other retards on the road.

No one is bitter.... I'm just saying I wouldn't give my child something like that since I know how I was. I'm fortunate to be alive with the stuff I did and I think I can speak for a lot of people regardless of who bought the "dangerous" vehicle or not.

Yes, I would say that being able to give your kids an STI would make your fiscal status fortunate.

Why do people constantly assume that the STI is some super car. Tests time and time again prove that the STI and subarus in general are very safe cars. My civic has gone as fast I have ever pushed the STI, the difference here is that STi is more capable at those speeds (one might say safer).

My post in no way warrants me being an idiot. I was 18 when I got my 300whp wrx. Not one ticket in the several years I owned the car till it got totaled when some idiot (name warranted here) backed into it in a parking lot because they werent looking. Age does not make any one person more or less smart or responsible and you know what they say about assumptions.

My point is it doesnt matter what car you give a 16 year old. They can get in trouble being dumb and irresposible in ANY vehicle. It completely depends on the individual driving.

Which brings me full circle back to why certain people get bent out of shape when someones parents buys them an STI. They are fortunate, kudos to them. Why hate?

You might also take into account that on a subaru forum its only obvious that you are going to hear about people/"kids" being given subarus and then crashing them. There are way more kids in all sorts of performance cars and grocery getters getting in the same accidents and trouble they just dont come on NASIOC and post about how they crashed their mustang.

Agreed.

I had a friend whose parents bought her brother a brand new evo and of course he crashed/totaled it. He also crashed/totaled the one they bought him to replace the previous one he totaled.

I had a Sti when I was 19. I paid for it myself but damn my parents shoudn't have let me buy such a powerful vehicle at my age. I didn't total the car or anything, but man so many close calls since I was dumbass teenager who didn't need a 300 whp car.

It's never too late to smack the **** out of you. Go ahead, we'll wait...

Oh! And yeah, I got more speeding tickets in the first year of driving than I have in the next 29+ years of driving. All of them in a 70 horsepower Civic. If you'd have given me a car with quadruple the horsepower of that Civic, I would have been the guy you read about on the front page of the newspaper who plowed through the group of people at the mall or drove off the 3rd story of the parking structure. I didn't give a **** back then because I was never going to die. Teenage kidiot right here.

This makes me laugh becuase so often you see people on here talking about what an ecobox grocery getter our cars are etc....

It takes experience to drive anything including a civic. Again a wrx is not a freakin super car, and nor is the sti.

Yes, it absolutely does. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. This statement just shows that you are either young or one of the exceptions.

Nope no way in hell! I purchased my first car on my own it was a 93 240!

I don't think I could ever give a kid a 300 hp car for their first one.

I had a friend who worked at a Ford dealership, some kid trashed his brand new cobra and the mom came in and wrote a check for a brand new a few days later because insurance did not cover it.

I'm 17 and for my first car I had a 2003 eclipse gts and ya it's an eclipse but it wasn't slow. But it started having problems so I sold it and bought a 2010 wrx hatch yes I am paying for it my mother consigned the loan but I make all the payments. I have a good job an am bales to afford it and some upgrades. But I probably would (when I'm older) buy my kid a nice used wrx not an sti but wrx. Buy it all depends on the kid some are good kids that just like cars and others can be idiots. Ya they will probably get on it and go fast but there are ways to do that safely. As many of you probably do.

I'm going to assume it's safe to say that statistics PROVE that kids are uneducated (not using the dumb, idiot, retarded names) and very irresponsible(general speaking and doesn't apply to all but may 99% :-p ). If these statistics weren't true, our insurance rates would not be astronomical and accidents would be reduced by something like 70% or something ballpark like that IF kids were to drive more responsibly and were properly educated. But that's not just on them......
