Default how hard...

I was just wondering, if anyone has any idea how hard it is, to change the rear and front brakes on my 00 legacy GT? i dont know much car knowledge and i removed the calibur and pad to them one time when i get a plastic bag stuck in my brake system, with no problems. or if anyone has a how-to written how to change them. and i dont want all expensive brakes, but some good recomemdations for brakes.

also where can i get red caliburs? and how hard it is to change those? any1 help me out id i love it, thank you.

It is not hard to change your brake pads.

I believe there is a write up at scoobymods.com (modifications link at the top of the page)

It may not be under Legacy, maybe under GC8. For subarus, the fronts are all similar enough that the procedure is the same.

In a nutshell you need:
new pads
brake parts cleaner (~$3)
'Disc Brake Quiet' goop (~$3)
14 mm socket or closed end wrench
stock jack
Stock lugwrench
Jackstand

Basic procedure:
Break the bolts for the wheel
Jack up the corner of the car
Place jackstand under frame rail
Remove the lugnuts, then wheel
loosen both bolts for the caliper, leave the 'top' one on and remove the other.
Swing caliper up
pull out old pads
spray everything with brake cleaner
Remove brake fluid reservoir cap
Push pistons in with your he-man thumbs and an old pad
Put new (pre gooped with the disc brake quite stuff) pads in
Swing the caliper down
Tighten it down
Put the wheel back on
Remove the jackstand
go on to the next corner.

Overall easy stuff.

As for making it red, you do that by painting it yourself. Some place sell high temperature brake caliper paint. Some just use high temp spray paint. The dress-up and style forum has some walkthroughs on that, I think. For painting, you will want/need to remove the caliper completely, which is slightly more involved, and a bit messier (because of the fluid) than just a pad swap.
