These are the coolest things I've added to the car so far. I love them. JDM STi RA-R carbon mirror caps

I added some "i" emblem overlays from Underground Graphics, which i discovered from this older thread. Also, Cobb offered to replace my AP which was damaged in the flood, but I had to go back to the auction yard down the street to grab the OBDII cable to send with it. Grabbed a shot of the two Subis while I had the chance. I love the STi, but will always miss the VA.

While the bugeye is at the paint shop, there has been time to get a few things done on the new STI. First was XPEL film (front and rear bumpers, rockers, fenders, hood, A-pillar & mirrors). I had a really great guy come and do it in my garage. Beautiful job with very few visible edges. If anyone in the greater Toronto area is interested, PM me for the gentleman’s contact info. Really top-notch guy.

I took off the bumper covers to coat everything with cosmoline for some long-term protection:

At the same time, I added some mudflaps:

And finished off with an “S208” style accent for the front grill:

...and today the bugeye came back from the paint shop...

I agreed with the shop that they would leave the finesse work (removing dust nibs, texture here and there, etc.) to me, so save a bit of $$

Had a new windshield installed and the rear window put back in with new trim

Job was comprehensive... Door jambs and hinges:

Underside of trunk and hood:

Default Custom HG’s

My custom single layer Stainless steel head gaskets arrived
Will get them Chrome, Gold and Copper plated. Might even do raw steel for that authentic rusty blown gasket look.

I assume these are laser or water-jet cut homogenous sheets? I always sort of assumed head gaskets has a certain amount of designed-in compressibility, but I am sure that these are designed then way they are for a reason. What is the main driver? Reliability? High boost application? Something else?

Interesting...

Over the weekend I prepped and painted some of the hidden parts for the bugeye (bumper beams, sub-frame various misc. parts). Coated everything with a 2K epoxy primer and then an activated base & clear for long term durability.

Default Engine swap (hopefully)

Today I ordered a 1998 ej20k turbo for my 1997 Subaru Impreza outback sport. Should start the swap soon!

I washed my WRX this morning, claybar 2.0, and applied polymer sealant. Smooth as glass in prep for crummy weather (winter) coming up soon.

The tires on the BBS have a lower treadwear rating than those on the V7s. They generally only last about a year with the amount of driving I do, as this is my daily driver. The ones on the V7s last longer and are only about half worn, so I want to use them up.

Yesterday:
Changed out the alternator and belts. Been having charging issues, but I'll probably end up needing a battery as well. Glad I got the belts because the a/c belt was splitting in half. Ended going with HKS, which are just rebranded Gates blue belts. Also went with a 135 amp alternator because the surge tank is going on the car this summer and I don't want charging to be an issue with an extra fuel pump.

I did chew up that vacuum hose a bit on the install. I'll have to get a replacement, though it's not leaking. Yet.

First "major" maintenance on the STi. Car was at 60k when I bought it and is a hair under 62k now, and I was having some minor misfires or hesitation which had me slightly worried. Figured it was the plugs but did a compression test while I had them out and everything looks good! Hesitation issues are gone, car is running great. Hoping to get better than 16.6 mpg (93) with the swap. Pretty sure they were the original plugs. Timing kit is next.
