Default Engine rebuild question

I'm having Phil at Element Tuning rebuild my engine. I see he hasn't been active on here for quite a long time. He's had my engine for nearly three months now. It's about to be sent off to the machinist but he needs half the price of the invoice before he'll send it out for work. I gave him 2500 when I dropped off the engine and the total invoice is for around $7,500. He's been going very slow and hasn't been returning my calls lately. Is this typical or should I be worried?

Apologies, I accidentally pressed submit before I was done. Is this a typical situation?

Have you stopped in?

Searching around, I see nothing concerning. Well, besides being in Florida.

Look in the NASIOC vendor reviews. There are a few there. PM the members and ask them.

It's not unheard of for an independent shop to ask for at least half of the total invoice to do work. Especially if they have to sub out work.

He's 3 hours drive from me and you've got to schedule to stop by so I haven't been back in. I'll try and ask a few members that have worked with him in the past.

I would never pay an invoice before the work is performed unless its a down payment for something that needs to be ordered like an aftermarket ECU or something psychical

I would also never schedule a time to stop by a shop working on my car. I want to see your shop's work in-process, not after you've cleaned all your greasy palm prints off my paint and removed your leftover lunch from the roof of my car...

Never done business with Podium Phil. Have knowledge of a customer he fleeced for five figures a few years ago. Search Project TBag. I see he posted on the Book of Faces in the last couple of days. He is known for the Honda closed deck approach used on Subaru's (some type of epoxy/cement concentration in the cooling passages)

Yep, imagine being on the receiving end.

Podium Phil inspired P2P Motorsports to start their own business because of the "closed deck" experience.
