I traded my 2010 Corvette Grandsport for a 2018 WRX in March of 2019. I needed to lower my monthly payments to secure a loan for a house. Got a smoking deal on the WRX, and managed to get the house.

a 2010 GS was worth more than a new WRX?

1997: turned 16 and got my license. Beater cars (like it should be), but one day Dad says, ďcheck out this car.Ē SVX... we went to a dealer and I drove one and loved it. Took another year, but he bought a 92 teal from a private party and I love that car (still have it).

Years roll by, and I always have a thing for Subies. Try to buy a used 2.5 RS in 2001, but the insurance was higher than the 87 Grand National I wanted. End up with a series of other cars. Aurora, Legacy GT Wagon, 99 Civic Si, etc.

Needed a new car in 2012 and kinda got cornered into a base 2011 VW Jetta. Still have it now, and gets me around, but always hated how gutless it was. Paid it off and saved hoping to buy a house.

Last year I was talking to a neighbor about cars (went to school for automotive engineering), and he asks what my ideal car would be. I replied that if itís affordable and rather practical year round... a WRX.

Six months later: looking at housing market and see Iím not gonna achieve that goal, and an add pops up with a used 2017 WRX for sale near me in WRB. Looked at them for a while, but always more money than would be wise to spend. Decide to just go take a look.

Take my daughter for test drive and she loves it. Dealer runs the numbers and I could manage it. 2017 with 24,000 miles and talked down to $23k. I walk away to think on it (not planning to buy).

Call dealer after a week and they tell me 3 people are interested and one planned to buy it that night. Pulled the trigger and got it late last year. Love the car and plan to go flex fuel tuned... who knows what else, barring finances. Would post a pic if I knew how... not seeing an option.

Congratulations.

You do know that the dealer was blowing smoke up your bippie about the other buyers?

If it's a good one it should last you as long as my '04 that I had to replace the battery for the 2nd time yesterday. I bought the little monster in May of 2003 with 7 miles on the odometer and the second day that the USDM STi was on sale...

Yeah, figured that was a distinct possibility, but oh well, still not a bad deal

Long story, read at your own risk

summarized version: had maxima, broke maxima, rented mustang, hated maxima, got mustang, mustang sucks in snow, got subie, subie broke, got new subie.

So, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (1 block away from my house) i was in my bright blue shiny nissan maxima sitting at a stop sign. It was December 4th 2019. Some wonderful fellow pulled from the main road into my car and hit me square in the front as he felt cutting the lane was a great idea. Cops were called, he claimed I came forward from the stop sign and hit him. Luckily I had a dash cam and proved he was lying and 100% at fault. This allowed me to get my car fixed.

I dropped off my maxima first week of january to get it fixed (took a month of fighting with the insurance company). I got dropped off over at enterprise to get my brand new shiny compact economy POS rental car for 2 weeks. I'm being helped by one of the managers, a really nice woman who is giving great customer service. Her dad is in construction as well so we had that to talk about. She gets interrupted by the other manager standing next to her regarding something about my forms of ID. She then begins arguing with me about my ID and how its not enough. I had my State ID, Passport and debit card. She tells me she cannot rent me a car unless I have a credit card as well. I ask her to show me the policy and she cannot. I explain to her that with my previous employer I rented dozens of cars from enterprise and never needed a credit card. After about 10-15 minutes of back and forth (felt like an hour) she had decided to give up and had the original lady who was assisting me complete the transaction. I'm assuming it was due to the miserable treatment I had just received but she was kind enough to upgrade my rental vehicle. We go outside and its a convertible grey mustang! I cannot believe my eyes at this point and decided if I fit that I would totally rock it (I'm 6'6). I fit just fine and drove off with it.

Mid January I had to return the mustang and pick up my maxima. It was depressing and every time I drove the maxima it truly made me sad as all can be. So, end of January (2020) I began shopping for a convertible mustang as I had fallen in love. I ended up finding one in PA (2hr drive) and went and purchased it. 5k under KBB, made me happy.

Lockdown happened, I got furloughed for 5 months and then came back to work. Instead of taking the train to work (working in nyc) I got transferred to NJ (driving). I went through the winter by stealing my wifes SUV as she was remote (works in the schools).

Decided I needed an awd vehicle to commute and we began looking. Found a 2015 WRX under book value and went to go buy it. Got a great price, drove it away on a tueday night. Wednesday morning I start it up and the dash looked like a christmas tree. Take the car back, the thing had a cat delete, ECU flashed and all sorts of other stupid things all done drunken front of moms house in the driveway at 2am quality. After 2 weeks of fighting I finally got the dealership to take the car back under NJ lemon laws.

Fast forward another 2 weeks of searching and I found my beautiful WRX in PB blue. The exact version I wanted and cheaper than I was even hoping for.

Sorry for my book, if you read congrats if you didn't don't blame you. Thats the story of my WRX journey.

Manual, AWD, wagon. Subaru fit the bill, and I liked them in general.

Worth more? No, but I had decent equity on the GS.

My Celica was starting to fall apart (still is, but it was, too), so the search for a new (used) car began. Requirements were, compared to my 99 Celica: better PWR, same length or shorter, AWD, auto, better MPG, and hatchback-ish. Out of my dozen or so cars I compared, the Impreza stood out due to parts availability, price, and comfort. For a while, I actually considered an SX4, but the lack of options and driver space were not great (even though the PWR and length were some of the better from the list). The Outback and Forester have gotten away from the station wagons they used to be, and the Baja isn't made anymore.

I had my eye on this one for a while. The price was good and color spot-on. The night before going to see it, the price dropped. It was a sign. The test drive instantly felt like I was driving my own car, as opposed to a rental. All the controls were in the right spot, the blinker flashed at the correct tempo, the headlights only turned on if I told them to, and the rear turn signals were amber (none of this combined stop-and-turn light garbage). I paid and drove off, and hope to have it for years to come.

Question Makes no sense

Why do people continue to link to Imgur when instead they can embed photos in their posts?

I accidentally stumbled upon the WRC when it was still televised in the US on SPEED Channel (does that even exist anymore?) in the early 2000's, and I fell in love with everything that was the WRC.

Fast-forward to 2006ish, and after driving a beater Dodge Neon for close to three years, I casually stumble upon a used 2000 RS with about 68k miles on it. 5 speed. Coupe. Basically my reasonable dream car.

I'm very, very cheap, and the idea of dropping 10k on a car was absurd to me, but my girlfriend at the time, who couldn't care less about cars, told me to call the dealer immediately. It's an hour and a half away, and after getting there and test driving it, I impulse buy it, knowing very little about the mechanical details of cars but with the understanding that it was probably impulse buy or lose it.

2021 and 100k miles later, I still have it, though it is no longer my daily. I am currently in the process of fixing the rust and re-painting the car. It is, without a doubt, the best car I have ever owned by a long shot.

Because I just joined and that was my 2nd out of 2 posts, so embedding didn't work. I have the [img] tags, but something with the forum catches them and redirects to the gallery page of the image, as opposed to the direct link. Also, I use imgur because I don't want to upload the same image multiple times to multiple forum groups.

Also, you used the "diaf" smiley... diaf? As in... "die in a fire"? Way to welcome the newbie.

MY (Subaru in the family since '80)first Subaru was when my father was stationed in Japan for the 2nd time. He got a 1985 Justy GL 4WD for my mother to drive. Well, they split and she went back to the states and my dad was like "Well, it's paid for. You can drive it while we're here". Lucky. Was one of very few "kids" to have their own ride. That car did EVERYTHING I asked of it. Pretty awesome. I miss my Justys.

I always wanted a WRX over 10 years ago, but couldn't afford the ones I wanted and ended up with an '01 Z28. Had that for a few years, wrecked it and needed a car right away. I got a 13' Civic and had that for 8 years. Forgot I was a car guy for a long time, but when my SO was shopping for her Forester I saw a hatchback Impreza and remembered the WRX.

I was disappointed to find out they stopped making the hatch, but I finally got my hands on a '19 WRX. I had been working at my engineering job for a year, and after the hell I went through to get my degree I finally decided to treat myself to something nice. Love this car! Some day I hope to have a project '05 or 11-14 hatch STi too.

It had been a long time and I forgot how rewarding it is to do the research and all of the work to mod a car. Found a lot of great info on here, reddit, YouTube, etc. Spent 2 days last June with the car on jack stands taking my time, drinking some beers, and installing everything. Flex tuned a few days later, and here we are a little over 6000 miles into it, running great!

I very seriously doubt he was genuinely wishing you would die in a fire. much as I am not rolling on the office floor while laughing when I type ROFL or actually eating popcorn while reading many other posts. I do however own a giant 7 foot banana costume and randomly dance around in it.

Oh I know, heh. I actually have a strict moral code to never use "lol" unless I actually audibly chuckle . It's just not a welcoming feeling when I share a story and some pics, and the first response is "YoU'Re doiNg It WroNg!" But eh, there's a few in every forum, right?

And I have a 6' Gumby costume, we'll have to party sometime

First of all, I appreciate that you've posted what's on your mind, rather than simply stewed about it.

My post was directed to anyone who continues to use Imgur here, not just you. It was no more than four posts previous to yours in this very thread that I explained how to use the correct Full Image BBCode. I don't believe it being your "2nd out of 2 posts" has anything to do with embedding not working. I suspect an incorrect link was used.

For anyone who wishes members of this forum to actually see their images, it might be worthwhile to take the extra step to upload and embed the images to be used in their posts here.

I have never previously heard "diaf" described/explained as "die in a fire". Smileys are used to describe one's own feelings in a post. I use that particular smiley occasionally when I wish to express frustration. Your apparent interpretation of my use of that smiley as me wanting you to "die in a fire" is rather disturbing, to say the least. I assure you, that was not my intent.

Bought my first Subaru in '96 from my parents as my first car. It was a 1982 GL Wagon 4spd manual that they owned since new. Reverse didn't work, which made things interesting as a newer driver. Loved that car. Only deviated from Subaru once with a Mazda for about a year in '98. Then while working in auto racing in '99, I bought a dream car to go with the dream job, a shiny new RBP 1999 2.5RS Coupe. I still own it, along with 2 other Subarus.

It's all good. I hope I didn't come off too strong. I was a bit frustrated is all. In all other forums, [img] tags around imgur picture direct links work out of the box. This is the first time I've seen it act... different.

Good to be here, hope to get images straightened out.

I started in a... well really crappy Chevy Malibu and dreamed of buying a WRX. One of my first jobs, in a mall, actually had the 2011 outside the store I worked in so I got to stare at it every day while I worked for minimum wage dreaming of the day I could buy it. A few years later, I learned to drive stick during my first test drive of a 2009 (sorry Subaru) and a week later bought a used 2011 WRX. It was love at first sight and it's been 9 amazing years since.

No harm done. Misunderstandings are easily made while posting online.

One thing I should add in regards to the NASIOC image host... I'm pretty sure when I first started using this utility within the past year that the default code presented after uploading an image was the correct code to embed the image in a post. However, something seems to have changed and the default code is no longer the correct one. It's just a minor inconvenience for anyone aware of this, as the proper code is easy enough to find. (That's what I was addressing Here.) The problem is, anyone using the utility for the first time won't be aware of the posting options available. So instead of an embedded image, links to images are being posted. This sucks, and it's so unnecessary. NASIOC image host needs to be put back to the way it originally functioned.
